It’s actually a newer bridge with a higher operating rating. But you’re right, it currently sees half the number of vehicles and far fewer trucks. On the upside, since all that traffic is going to be rerouted through town all the trafic will be going over that bridge at a glacial pace, which will mean miles of backups in both directions for weeks at least.

The span might be short enough for the Army to bring in a portable bridge as a temporary fix, but they’ll have to remove that for any permanent replacement to be constructed. Wondering if that kind of truss can be prefabbed and craned into position? Either way the other existing trusses are surely just as fucked up so it’s likely the entire bridge superstructure will need replacing.

If they do put portable bridge up a new one can be built right beside it without disturbing the other bridge.
