Well it is always easy to dislike the President in office when there is no specific alternative. However when 2012 rolls around and the Republicans seem determined to pick a candidate from the Star Wars Bar scene menagerie, Barack will look a lot better.

That is the Tea Party’s strength right now: they are not called on to make specific policy decisions, or to cut specific programs. They can spout venom and embrace ideology.

And the Republican Party has put itself into a position that anyone who appeals to their new “base” will totally alienate anyone in the center. And their hard-core base will never account for more than 30% of the electorate.
