Religion has a function (several, actually) and it can’t be supplanted until you have something as effective to replace it. The Soviets tried, with very mixed results.

I don’t give a damn about being supplanted…I just want them out of my face….it’s fundamentally wrong and anti-American, veiled totalitarianism
