I myself wonder if things would have been better if Nixon had won in 1960. Nixon might never have done that ‘pivot’. The Cuban Missile Crisis also likely would never have happened, since Khrushchev already knew he couldn’t bully Nixon.

Or it could have ended instead in nuclear war, with Nixon refusing to back down to the point that the proposal to quietly dismantle the Jupiter rockets in Turkey would have been a bridge too far.
