re: #78 CuriousLurker

I recently started reading through some articles on ethics in journalism and how things have changed, so this was an especially timely example of what I’ve been learning about. I hope to post a Page on it soon.

I’ve learned a couple of things in the past few days. One, just like everything else, the professional-left has a distinct hierarchy made up of bloggers and websites. Those are difficult to either break into or criticize and expect any noticeable affect. This is made up by an inner-circle of bloggers and correspondents.

Holding that shell together are website like the Huffington Post which are also impenetrable and not easy to shake and with a sever lack of transparency as to who’s running those sites. This is important of course because these are ideologically driven organizations and not merely news outlets.

Glenn Greenwald (his status as a progressive in severe question) lives in Brazil in one of the finest sections in town in a 5 million dollar mutli-level home. Arriana Huffington saw a windfall of close to 300 million dollars in her sale of the Huffington Post to AOL/Time Warner. And that site was built by contributors at pennies on the dollar. Going back to Greenwald, Salon Media is a corporation with a Delaware address for tax purposes.

Just some quick thoughts.
