I disagree. Zionism at heart is a religiously based concept. Now, it might be one you agree with, and most of us here might agree that the UN (which many of you apparently despise) was correct to establish the modern state of Israel post WWII, yet without a doubt Zionism is at heart based on religion in several ways. Even atheistic Jews would have to accept that the historical religion is the basis for several decisions in founding the modern state.

Zionism is based on nineteenth-twentieth century concepts of ethnic nationalism and self-determination, far more than it is ‘based’ on religious concepts.
