Regarding practicing for those failures: That pilot made a pretty damn smooth landing with only one good engine. That’s not easy, but he/she made it look that way. Whoever that man or woman was, they were well-rehearsed for landing on one engine. That’s good training.

the airline industry is a good example of spending *lots* of time and oodles of money on things they hope will never happen. and still are exquisite prepared when they do.

Even the unforseen/unplanned ones. ie Sully et al.
