I understand your confusion. When Texas passed a similar law last year- to be honest it *is* the same law- I asked the same thing.
Answer:
Until an embryo hits around six weeks old, you can’t even ID it with external ultrasound. Since the law requires the woman view the not-yet-human thing inside her, an internal ultrasound is the only option.
OK, does that not open the door then to a doctor using a conventional external ultrasound to declare the “fetal age” as “Under six weeks”? That looks to me to fulfill the letter requirement of the law - and set up a court challenge when a socon screams “but no!”
