When I was a kid I had what was much later called “Chinese Restaurant Syndrome”, which is apparently an allergy to MSG. My dad tried to take us to Chinese restaurants a couple of times, but I’d start to pass out just from the fumes, before the food even got there.

I got over it fortunately, like most of my childhood allergies, but it still seems I feel really bloated after eating at some places, which I suspect is due to their using more MSG than most.
