There are camels at the Madison Zoo - as an exhibit and as riding animals run by some local group. I’ve never cared to ride one so I can’t say much more than that. That said it’s a silly bit that didn’t end badly, thankfully. But it’s no worse than when they bring cows on the concourse every June (dairy month, you know.) Holstein’s aren’t too bright, even by dairy standards, and anything out of their routine bothers them.
