that reminds me, I remember a politician (I want to say Gingrich) saying years ago that the political winds start in California and blow east. The Republicans have been more or less meaningless here since the late 90s. Last year, the GOP lost all 7 statewide races - the closest race was 53.6-46-.4 under our new open primary system. Since 1998, Republicans have won all of three statewide races that didn’t involve Arnold (who essentially ran as a moderate Democrat in 2006) - that makes the Dems 37 of 41 in statewide races since 1998 (including US Senate races but excluding the recall).

It’s taken a while, but the national GOP has started to realize that this is what awaits them nationally if they don’t get the crazies in line… unfortunately for them, they have been using the crazies to win.
