You know the jokes about Trump “defunding” WHO?

Well, the first one is that it US contributions are only a bit over $400 million dollars a year. The Bill & Melinda Gates foundation pays over $200 million. That’s right, a private body is paying half what the US government pays.

And the second part of the joke is that the US doesn’t even pay all the money it owes, it’s about two years in arrears for its assessed contributions.

There are proposals in the EU parliament that the EU step up with 500 million EUR of emergency funding for WHO. More than total US contributions.
