Actually, the cabbie I wound up with was an immigrant from Ethiopia I believe.

I have a mad love for the Sikh cabbies who mostly work my neck of the woods. I also have a well-founded nervousness about most other cabbies, and have tried to work out a way to ask for Sikh cabbies on the phone that doesn’t make me sound like a demented racist. I suspect that “If the driver isn’t wearing a turban I’m not getting in the cab” won’t work.
