The arctic has had ice level variations in the past. Although the paper only hints at it, What is important to watch for is how abruptly the refreezing occurs over the next few winters. Based on what I’ve seen, the most atmospheric and oceanic sediment changes due to industrialization will be clearly visible in how the ice reforms, although I believe sulfur and other and other pollutants are more substantial forcing than carbon dioxide in these changes.
