I think John Mayer will continue on the same trajectory. He’ll be judged on the strength of his next album, like anyone else.
He puts himself out there with these interviews and twitters. I think he tells everyone way too much information. I think he has some strange views of women. I am way past thinking that artists should be judged as someone involved in my life. I don’t know these people. Why should I expect them to be balanced and rational when a)they are artistic people and b)it has nothing to do with me?

I think you make a good point, with one small proviso. In the case of a song-writer who happens on occasion to exhibit right wing racist views, it might cause a bit of anxiety concerning the sincerity of some of his song lyrics. Maybe just a little.
