Ah, that reminds me of Layla & Majnun. I’ll paraphrase (from Rumi):

A king had heard of Majnun and his mad love for Layla. Thinking that she must be very beautiful, he demanded that she be brought to him so he could see for himself what had driven Majnun insane.

When Layla was finally brought before him he was disappointed as she was rather common looking. He told her, “You’re nothing special. There are many women far more lovely than you in my kingdom. I really don’t see what’s so special about you.”

And Layla replied, “That is because you don’t see me with Majnun’s eyes. If you did, then….”
