In California, both Democrats and the GOP get hefty contributions from the prison industry.

and the problem is both with the public and private prison industry; it’s anytime there’s an incentive to incarcerate larger numbers of people. Public prisons still mean larger payouts to contractors, and— the one actually bad union I know of— the prison guard union. The prison guard union in California has fucked up all kinds of shit.

The irony is that a lot of the lower-level prison guards are against stuff like the 3 strikes law, because it winds up with them getting shanked by guys with nothing to lose, but the higher ups like it.

I hate the 3 strikes rule.
