I was in a part of Germany in 1989 that was close enough to the East German border to receive their TV news. I was impressed at the coverage they re-broadcast of the Tinamen protests: one never saw any banners or posters displayed, and whatever the protestors were chanting was drowned out by the naarator’s voice.

All we heard were references to the “anti-democracy protestors and reports of the brave soldiers killed.
