I like the control of a manual in Ohio winter driving. Also, I like the ability to allow the gearbox to help in braking, etc. too.

I know a lot of people say never to allow your transmission to slow the car. I’ve never had to do any trans work and haven’t even had to replace a clutch except on my second ‘81 Rabbit that has a seal on the input shaft break and it squirted fluid onto the clutch plate. And all my cars have been over 170,000 miles plus.

You have to know your gearing and your RPM range so you aren’t putting a strain on the clutch. etc.

EVs can do something similar, with regenerative braking. Basically, you use the electric motors as generators to recharge the batteries which simultaneously brakes the car.
