Filibuster — no filibuster. The Senate is fatally broken. The minority is now silenced; there is no negotiation in the Senate to reach an agreement on legislation between the parties. And the minority may actually represent a majority of the population — and that majority has no say in how we are governed. The successful efforts at disenfranchising minority voters and gerrymandering states exacerbate the situation.

Let’s wait and see what happens in November before we prematurely declare how we are going to change the rules of the Senate or expand SCOTUS. It’s ridiculous for us to be saying any of this in public; the Republicans are listening and they could very well decide these are great ideas that they will adopt if they remain in the majority with Trump as president. Of course, if the GOP win, we are finished as a nation and will be officially a dictatorship.

Ultimately though it won’t be SMOD that will finish us, but the inevitable disaster of climate change that will bring the world down, unless a nuclear-armed Saudi Arabia facing a nuclear-armed Iran brings us down first.
