When I lived in Germany I dated a girl who looked like Grace Kelly and knew it. She was also a single mom.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses were on her like stink on a monkey. Every Saturday, at ten in the morning, two males in their skinny ties would show up to convert this scarlet woman from her wicked ways.

Until one day she answered the door starkers.

Her description of red about-to-explode faces above the clean white shirts as they stuttered, spluttered and fled, never to return again, still gives me the hoots.

lol I get them too, but I think they’re Mormons. Do Mormons prosthelytize? There’s a new LDS church up the street. Who are the guys who ride bikes, white shirts, dark pants with “Elder” name tags? There’s a few different ones. We get maybe 5 or 6 a year, once every couple months.

And I have a mezzuzah on the door and a little hangy metal thing that says “Shalom” in English and Hebrew. I don’t think they know what they are. I generally don’t answer the door or tell them I’m not interested and they go away.
