Tonight we have an odd mix of pop tunes:

1) Crowded House’s debut album contained Don’t Dream It’s Over, with a stately classical-tinged organ solo reminiscent of Procol Harum’s A Whiter Shade of Pale. An inspirational song.

2) Little Feat’s Willin’. One of the greatest trucker songs ever written. This is the version from their first album, Little Feat, not the more produced but nowhere near as good version on Sailin’ Shoes. (But Sailin’ Shoes is still a great album too.)

3) Here’s a left field pick, Todd Rundgren’s brilliant song Healer from his album Healing, a shiny mix of cross-rhythms with an amazing vocal performance and a bridge section that’s like a Sufi Beach Boys.

4) One of the best unrecognized artists of the day, Chris Whitley, with a warped pop song from his album Living with the Law, Poison Girl.
