Dead Man Hating

Middle East • Views: 1,899

The dead guy is back again, with another non-specific audiotape message hastily put together by Al Qaeda’s media group: Bin Laden urges jihad against Israel over Gaza.

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) - Al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden urged Muslims to launch a jihad against Israel and condemned Arab governments as allies of the Jewish state in a new message aimed at harnessing anger in the Mideast over the Gaza offensive.

Bin Laden spoke in an audiotape posted Wednesday on Islamic militant Web sites where al-Qaida usually issues its messages. It was his first tape since May and came nearly three weeks after Israel started its campaign against Gaza’s militant Hamas rulers.

“There is only one strong way to bring the return of Al-Aqsa and Palestine, and that is jihad in the path of God,” bin Laden said in the 22-minute audiotape, referring to the revered Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. “The duty is to urge people to jihad and to enlist the youth into jihad brigades.”

“Muslim nation, you are capable of defeating the Zionist entity with your popular capabilities and your great hidden strength—without the support of (Arab) leaders and despite the fact that most of (the leaders) stand in the barracks of the Crusader-Zionist alliance,” bin Laden said.

Notice that there’s nothing in Bin Laden’s statements to prove he’s talking about the current Gaza conflict. This is boilerplate Jew-hatred.

Eventually they’ll run out of old recordings to cut and paste.

I disagree: your good, old-fashioned jihadist hate messages are timely no matter when recorded or broadcast. What he says on this tape can refer to any event anywhere in the region since about 1968 or so, and will be in use for decades to come.

"Hastily put together" Charles? We're 19 days into Operation Cast Lead's ground operations, and there was just about a week of air strikes prior to that. It took him almost a month to get out a message. He was slower than Zawahiri, and of course he's not saying anything different than he's said before.

Jihad.

It's all he knows.

It's all he can say or do.

All he can do is talk, because he's not going out to fight Israel himself. Neither are Haniyeh or Meshaal for that matter. Better that their thugs do the fighting and dying while Meshaal is cozy in Damascus and Haniyeh is doing his best to avoid being turned into wormfood by an Israeli airstrike.

Osama has been calling for jihad against the West and Israel from the moment he came on the international stage. Nothing's changed. He's more irrelevant now than he's been in years as he appears to be a Johnny Come Lately to the Hamas banner. He just blends into the chorus of those calling for Israel's destruction, including Ahmadinejad, Chavez, Morales, and all the rest of the anti-West crowd.

Not to sound like a post-modernist, but, ultimately, what is this guy but a voice on a tape and an image on a screen? He has, as it were, deconstructed himself, or, better, his followers have distilled him into nothing.

Eventually they’ll run out of old recordings to cut and paste.

Via the magic of audio splicing, infinite new ones can be generated by re-assembling pieces of the old ones.

Bin-laden in more of a concept/symbol at this point anyway, like Che.

The words of dead men still ring.

"All forms of government destroy themselves by carrying their basic principles to excess. The democracies become too free, in politics and economics, in morals, even in literature and art, until at last even the puppy dogs in our homes rise on their hind legs and demand their rights...Disorder grows to such a point that a society will abandon all its liberty to anyone who can restore order."

Going after HVTs - Haniyeh, etc., or to flush out the terror tunnels, or both.

You don't need 'em to cut power to Gaza. Regular Israeli forces can do it; airstrikes can do it as well.

Dunno who cut it, but earlier today The Muqata reported this:

'3:28 PM The "Shayetet 13" Ultra Elite IDF Unit is operating in Gaza now according to Channel 10 Israel TV.

Jameel adds: They aren't sent for just any mission -- Only extremely special operations. Read the above link for a description of what their specialties are.'

Thats one unit of the IDF Special Forces.

Oh boy.

My call is that they're going to Shifa.

Is Hamas so sold on the effectiveness of the Gaza = Holocaust propaganda - and the belief that the state of Israel was established as a result of a Zionist-authored Holocaust - that they have actively been trying to engineer the mass slaughter of their own civilian population? The command's "Joint Operating Environment (JOE 2008)" report, which contains projections of global threats and potential next wars, puts Pakistan on the same level as Mexico. There were reports of Osama's death during the Tora Bora campaign. They claim Osama went into a cave to hide and we bombed the entrance to the cave, killing him and burying him under tons of rubble. It is hard to detemrmine whether this is the truth, but Osama hasn't been looking too alive for the last six or so years. You'd expect him to mention the election of the Warrior for the Glorious Jihad the Obamessiah to the Presidency. That wouold be a pretty good proof of life if it were part of an unspliced tape.

My bet is that Osama's pushing up daisy-cutters in Tora Bora. If he is alive he's on the run, which is better than him being free to persue his little hobby killing infidels. The way he was able to do during the Clinton Administration.

Osma looks more land more like Achmed the Dead Terrorist as time passes.

Bush kept the news of Osama's early termination at Tora Bora a closely held secret. Osama paints a picture of al Qaeda that American's can understand. Without Osama, al Qaeda may, today, have a much different face. Not the face of the group responsible for the slaughter on 9/11. Bush, IMO, accepts fault, the blame, for another failure, not his. For the good of the nation.

Hopefully, the IDF will respect that when Hamas has unconditionally ceased firing. And not a moment sooner.

100%. The Republicans never really gave us any real reason to vote for them. The "we suck less" platform just doesn't bring out the loyalty that the Republicans need. They could try, I don't know, maybe actually doing some of those whacky Republican things like cutting spending, making government less intrusive and more efficient, getting rid of ear marks, hell, there's a whole host of "Republican" ideas that the Republicans have let wither on the vine.

Even the war they tried to fuck up. They listened to opinion polls that said people were dissatisfied with Iraq, but they never broke it down to defeatists on the one hand, and people like myself who felt we should be hitting them a lot harder on the other.

True - Ronald Reagan got rid of the Nixon/ Rockafeller/ Ford brand of republicanism (democrat-lite) with true conservatism. The ousted progressives have been squirreling their way back into the party ever since. Conservatism (in the party) died somewhere back in the 90's.

As a "fundie" I'm rather sick of taking hits for the demise of the GOP. Seems to me they chose to give up conservatism and ran on the DNC platform - and lost. Not my problem.

Seems to me if the GOP worried about fiscal responsibility and government waste and corruption instead of worrying about gay marriage and trying to teach the book of Genesis in science classes (among other things) they wouldn't be in the position they are now.

Some decisions are best left to the individual, not the State. It's about Liberty. Didn't someone once say “Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s”? People who want to inject religion into politics should keep that in mind. Besides, it looks bad when you spend your life saying one thing and then you get caught in an airport bathroom in a "wide stance".

I have to agree with you. The People voted a Revolution in 1994, and we never really got what we voted for. A little bit of Welfare Reform squeaked through, but I can't think of even one other big policy issue that the Republicans really fought for. Hell, the Republicans didn't even fight the Ginsburg appointment to the Supreme Court. That happy horseshit needs to stop NOW.

The first test is Eric Holder. He's an inexperienced party hack whose main claim to fame is that he help procure the slimiest Pardon in American history, and kidnapping a little boy and deporting him to Cuba. Those >are credentials for something I guess, but not for a prospective Attorney General.

I agreed with you on post 273, but I think you are over-stating the issue here.

The Gingich years were good and everything that Clinton likes to claim credit for now is basically a result of Newt's ideas (Expanded free trade, lower cap gain taxes, balanced budget, welfare reform, etc.)

When Newt got the boot in 1998 is when the Republican Congress went rudderless. GWB never tried to reign them in either. Shame on GWB for that.

I will also note that, sincy the Nancy/harry show came to town in 2006, is when the Economy really started to tank.

For one thing, there has not been a positively unequivocally new video of Osama since early 2002. Everything since has been voice-over still photos, or re-edited old videos. Nothing new. If he really was alive, they would have made something new right? Ergo, he's dead.

I'm waiting for the Al-Q tape that comes out and accidentally has a Chef .mp3 spliced into it. "Death to all... The Children!" "Make all out jihad... to your asshole."

This Bin Laden fellah sounds rather peevish. Pushing up poppies has a way of making anyone cranky, I reckon.

All of his words are so darn familiar.

Dude? What's this "you" stuff. Please don't bundle all religious people into your world view.

If you dislike religious people, I would recommend you walk away now. If you dislike atheists, I would recommend the same. The atheists and religious people tend to get along just fine here.

I am afraid, that either side will fight for the others right to believe as they see fit.

Please, knock it off.

I have no problems with religious people, only the ones who want to use the power of government to advance their religion or their religious beliefs.

But if you think that government should be an advocate for religion Osama bin Laden et al agree with you 100%.

It's the expectation that government should be another arm of religion that has helped fuel the rise of Islamist groups and the terrorism that accompanied it. Until 500 years ago or so much of Christendom was the same way, it was called the Dark Age.

By all means practice your religion however you see fit, but please don't try to mix it with government. That hasn't ever worked out well. I don't want to see the Rev. Jeremiah Wright with the power of government behind him any more than I do Sheikh Nasrallah.

I hope you're right. I guess it comes down to whether or not his supporters think denying us the satisfaction of knowing he's dead outweighs their desire to hail him as a martyr. He could also still be alive, but in such bad shape he can barely function.

Charles:

I disagree with you on a few things, but "dead man hating" hits the nail on the head. Bin Laden's bin pushing up poppies for a while now. It's kind of fun to see the jihadis continue the charade, though.

...the Crusader-Zionist alliance,” bin Laden said.

He forgot to include the honcos.

But if the message wasn't really recorded this week... then how did Bin Laden know that Bush would be leaving office?

Ha! Riddle me THAT, Batman!

Love the title of this thread -- hysterical.

Here's what I don't get. ABC et al are reporting on the audible wheezing on the tape, questioning OBL's health (awwww), but suggesting this eliminates any doubt that he is alive. I was under the impression, as were others in this thread, that none of his comments was sufficiently specific to demonstrate that these taped comments aren't years old. And I can't find a transcript anywhere. Has anyone else found one?
