Just ventured over to the Huffington Post. 500+ comments about the possibility of Russian bombers going to Venezuela. And wouldn't you know it? Look what I learned in the same response!

"Were it not for U.S. support for Israel, we wouldn't have to worry about Climate Change."

"I don't know how the two are connected, but it must be that way, since Russian b0mbers in Venezuela and Cuba are most certainly connected to Israel's occupation of Arab lands, as pointed out by several posters."

Thanks Huffington Post for clearing that up!

a goat roast in Jamaica is identical to a good old pig roast here....anyway the tend to jerk it with alot of dry spices and smoke it as well as broil it...sort of a combo in that regard

Speaker Pelosi: I am not partisan

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is denying Republican claims that she is partisan, saying she has been open to GOP ideas.

In an interview with Charlie Rose on Friday, Pelosi was asked what is the most unfair and misleading impression of her. Pelosi initially said she doesn’t think about it, but when pressed, the Speaker took on her Republican critics.

“There seems to -- some people think there seems to be a market for saying that I am very partisan, and that I don't give the Republicans their opportunity. That simply is not true. They know in this recovery package that we had, we ask them what they wanted. They wanted certain things in there.”

I've been to a couple of goat-roasts, but with those affairs the emphasis is more on the convivial atmosphere rather than actual food.

But the goats didn't taste that bad. And if you will compare the appearance of a skinned and gutted goat with that of a deer, well, if you can eat one you can most likely eat the other.

That doesn't change the fact that if competitive invites come in for a goat-roast, a pig-roast, and a steer-roast...well, let us just say that the goat will come in a distant third.

As ye're still into goat stories - ehre's a true one:
Isle of Skye guest house, small bedroom (10 by 10 ft) on ground floor, two beds, no space.
we'd just arrived, room full with two adults and two dogs. In the garden, right next to the window, a beautiful white billygoat was tied up.
He came and put his legs ont he windowsill, looking into the room.
Big Dog went ebrsekr - he nearly went through the closed window - it was all I could do to grab his collar! Nearly strangled the poor dog!
Mind - his barking was enough to see the goat off.

94 Dustyvet  Sat, Mar 14, 2009 12:50:47pm

Two guys are walking down a road when they come across a deep hole beside it. Being curious, they go over and check it out. When they look down, they are surprised to find they can't see the bottom. So they drop a couple of rocks down the hole and listen... Nothing. One of them says, "Man, that's a deep hole!"
Thinking they might hear something larger hit the bottom, they find a big, old cinder block and pitch it over the side. The pause and listen intently... They hear a sound, but it is coming from behind them! They quickly turn around to see a goat bearing down on them with it head lowered, flying along, its feet barely touching the ground, its moving so fast!
The two men dive out of its way just in time and the goat plunges past them, into the seemingly bottomless hole, to its doom. The two look at each other and say, "Boy that was close! We'd better get away from this thing before we end up with the goat!".
So they continue on their way down the road until they happen across this farmer working near it. The men again put their heads together and figure that the goat belongs to the farmer and the decide to tell him what happened.

"Hey Mr. Farmer. Do you happen to own a goat?", one of the men asked.
The farmer replies, "Yeah, why do you ask?"
The men then tell what happened at the hole and how they narrowly avoided death in the hole from the speeding goat.
The farmer said, "Well boys, I don't think that was my goat. You see, my goat is really old and crippled up with arthritis. There is no way he could have been moving that fast. Besides, I have him tied to a big, old cinder block."

Obama focuses on food safety, picks FDA new chief

The nation's food safety system is a "hazard to public health" and overdue for an overhaul, President Barack Obama said Saturday as he filled the top job at the Food and Drug Administration.

Obama used his weekly radio and video address to announce the nomination of former New York City Health Commissioner Margaret Hamburg as agency commissioner and the selection of Baltimore's health commissioner, Joshua Sharfstein as her deputy. Consumer groups applauded the picks.

The FDA does not have enough money or workers to conduct annual inspections at more than a fraction of the 150,000 food processing plants and warehouses in the country, Obama said.

"That is a hazard to public health. It is unacceptable. And it will change under the leadership of Dr. Margaret Hamburg," he pledged.

Damn- now I need to lose sleep about the food I buy? Is there anything the president feels I can sleep easy over- anything at all besides his ability to read off a teleprompter?

Speaker Pelosi: I am not partisan
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is denying Republican claims that she is partisan, saying she has been open to GOP ideas.

She just hasn't found any yet that she thinks is worth considering.

"Then we said "No" and laughed in their faces. After all, we won."

FIFY.

Here is some info on the doings of the Modern Whig Party these days: (in 2 posts)

******

To the members of the Modern Whig Party,

We have received countless messages from people across the nation saying that they have heard the Modern Whig Party name bantered around in bars, restaurants, stores, newspapers, radio shows, blogs , forums, in the workplace and virtually everywhere else. In addition, many of these word-of-mouth comments were positive after some of the more reluctant or skeptical people took a closer look at what this movement is all about.

Our first phase in development has always been to develop a brand that is mainstream, rational, pragmatic and full of common sense solutions. So far, we remain on track and moving. In fact, we have transitioned from being a "mom & pop" organization to a fully recognized political organization that continues to be viewed as the "fastest growing mainstream political movement in the nation." And based on the meetings taking place throughout the country, we now cannot be considered a solely online phenomenon either.

Notes of interest:

Bylaws/Charter: A national committee has been established to develop the official rules of this organization. The vision of this movement includes complete transparency and open participation of those members wishing to be active. Once this process is complete, all members will have an opportunity to weigh in and ultimately vote on the future course of this movement's leadership, process and policy. To assist in this process, please feel free to contact the committee chair at info@texaswhig.org.

Fundraising: We deliberately refrained from soliciting donations until we had established a viable base of membership and infrastructure. We are about there. However, when ourfundraising activities begin, rest assured that we will be taking a different tact. This means we will never be in your face about it and will never hound or guilt our members into contributing. We understand the economic realities and the fact that many of our members are continuing to hold a wait-and-see attitude toward this movement. In addition, a Web site will be established to list all incoming and outgoing expenditures. From this easy-to-read site, anyone will be able to match this transparent aspect with the corresponding federal filings. There will be more information on thefundraising aspect coming soon.

I am sure his proclamation that US produced food is bad for your health will play well with all the people that buy American food products abroad. Thank you, President Obama.

Does he think before he "spouts".....I guess he just reads what's on the teleprompter.

Modern Whig Party, Continued:

****

Lecture: The current chairman of the Modern Whig Party is giving a lecture on March 27, 2009 at Yale University entitled "Military Expression in the Modern Armed Forces."
Modern Whig NYC Happy Hour?: In addition to the lecture, we are considering an informal meeting in New York City on either the 27th or 28th of March. There already has been some interest in such an event. If we can get enough RSVPs together (newyork@modernwhig.org), we will put this together.
Letter writing campaign: Our Missouri Chapter has been very successful in organizing a letter-to-the-editor campaign. Because of their efforts, our membership and name recognition in that state has grown dramatically. This is because these letters have attracted reporters which in turn has attracted numerous instances of mainstream media coverage. We will be working with our list of active volunteers and state leaders to incorporate this campaign elsewhere. To participate, please contact our national public relations director at elaine@modernwhig.org.
Membership spike: The recent controversy between GOP social conservatives and GOP moderates contributed to a one-week membership spike of about 800 members. This was the largest short-term increase in membership since the party was prominently featured in the Military Times newspapers last fall. It seems more and more people are choosing to avoid strict socially conservative ideology in order to seek a pragmatic, common-sense alternative that is both realistic and viable. Welcome to all our new members.
We expect to announce many more items of note in the coming months. Thanks to all who have expressed an interest in this movement.

Best regards,

Executive Committee
The Modern Whig Party

SEATTLE (AP) -- As the Seattle Post-Intelligencer moves toward printing its last edition, it remains unclear whether its bigger rival, The Seattle Times, is far behind — and whether this famously literate city could soon find itself without a major daily newspaper.

The Times is heavily in debt and struggling to cut expenses, just like many other newspapers across the country. But the Times is different from many large newspapers because it is controlled by the Seattle-area Blethen family and doesn't have deep corporate pockets from which to draw.

Ok, here is The Other Les' theory of Leftism in One Lesson:

In Leftism, human life is evil, anything that damages or destroys human life is good.

The ruling principle of Leftism applied to this situation: Rational and productive people and the nation states who protect them are evil, states that punish reason and violently exploit productive people are good.

I know it's wrong, but in Leftism wrong is right.

Vermont hunter busted for bolting antlers on dead doe

A man who bolted antlers to the head of a dead doe and posed for a photograph with the deer was fined $400 and jailed for game violations.

Marcel Fournier, 19, shot the deer the evening of Nov. 22 and used lag bolts and epoxy to attach a 10-point rack, officials said. He then checked in the kill as lawful game at Barnie’s Market.

It’s illegal to kill an antlerless deer, and it’s also illegal to hunt at night.

The Concord resident admitted to the killing and led a game warden to the deer’s remains after an anonymous caller alerted authorities. Fournier said he had "quite a time" drilling and fastening the antlers, authorities said.

Game warden David Gregory said the antlers didn’t look or feel right.

"When you grabbed them, you’d feel movement," he said.

So the take home message is:

smokers, keep smoking
non smokers, start smoking
patch users and gum chewers, stop chewing and patching and start smoking ( unless they tax your gum and patch) then smoking and patching are equivalent. you choose
heart and lung surgeons: you won't get paid CABG's and pneumonectomies since most of your patients are smokers, so quit medicine

Would contacts slag or shrivel like shrinky-dinks?

On this one, 117VAC was fed into a 5V logic output. The chip, (aka die) evaporated, blowing a nicely-shaped, tiny, cone-shaped crater in the top of the package. I didn't see it, but was just outside the engineering lab door and heard it. The sound was like the cracking of a bullwhip.

Never let data get in the way of good legislation!

I think the difference is that your hands are free. That, and your not cutting off your peripheral vision by holding a phone to your head.

My father is having a hell of a time find 5.56mm for his AR too. We can find .223 but there's enough of a difference between .223 and 5.56 that it causes problems with his AR. It doesn't like to eject the cases sometimes. I think we might have to start reloading.

An archaeological dig near Venice has unearthed the 16th-century remains of a woman with a brick stuck between her jaws — evidence, experts say, that she was believed to be a vampire.

The unusual burial is thought to be the result of an ancient vampire-slaying ritual. It suggests the legend of the mythical bloodsucking creatures was tied to medieval ignorance of how diseases spread and what happens to bodies after death, experts said.

The well-preserved skeleton was found in 2006 on the Lazzaretto Nuovo island, north of the lagoon city, amid other corpses buried in a mass grave during an epidemic of plague that hit Venice in 1576.

"Vampires don't exist, but studies show people at the time believed they did," said Matteo Borrini, a forensic archaeologist and anthropologist at Florence University who studied the case over the last two years. "For the first time we have found evidence of an exorcism against a vampire."

SNIP

To kill the undead creatures, the stake-in-the-heart method popularized by later literature was not enough: A stone or brick had to be forced into the vampire's mouth so that it would starve to death, Borrini said.

Can Marijuana Help Rescue California's Economy?

Democratic state assemblyman Tom Ammiano thinks so. Ammiano introduced legislation last month that would legalize pot and allow the state to regulate and tax its sale - a move that could mean billions of dollars for the cash-strapped state. Pot is, after all, California's biggest cash crop, responsible for $14 billion a year in sales, dwarfing the state's second largest agricultural commodity - milk and cream - which brings in $7.3 billion a year, according to the most recent USDA statistics. The state's tax collectors estimate the bill would bring in about $1.3 billion a year in much needed revenue, offsetting some of the billions of dollars in service cuts and spending reductions outlined in the recently approved state budget.

The American Way....

I suspect they're being shipped from Europe and the UK.

yes (and Indian reservations too) but just think, it is cheaper to produce something domestically, export it & then smuggle it back into the country than to simply buy it locally... f'n brilliant.

Will growing your own be considered the same as distilling your own during Prohibition?

Not sure, but I doubt if its being legal would stop those who wanted to grow their own from doing so. Don't be surprised to see a one ounce bag at your local dispensary with a "Made in China" label on the back.

Obama: Country, we must use the Stimulus of Taxes if we are to continue this recovery.

Country: Mr. President, the Stimulus of Taxes never works.

Obama: Still I will use it.

[The Stimulus of Taxes lowers over the economy.]

Country: Now it's much worse! Can you hear me?

Obama: What?

Right now it's only yield loss. I'm working with an engineering on systems with our new testers to run test and calibration routines that will catch problems before a run. Older testers didn't have the capability, but the new ones do.

Now THAT is a test head!

me. I have a killer jigsaw puzzle, and I can't figure out how to get
started."

Her boyfriend asks, "What is it supposed to be when it's finished?"

The blonde says, "According to the picture on the box, it's a rooster."

Her boyfriend decides to go over and help with the puzzle.

She lets him in... and shows him where she has the puzzle spread all over
the table.

He studies the pieces for a moment; looks at the box; then turns to
her and says,

"First of all, no matter what we do, we're not going to be able to
assemble these pieces into anything resembling a rooster."

He takes her hand and says, "Second, I want you to relax. Let's have a
nice cup of tea, and then ..' he said with a deep sigh, . .. . . . .. .

"Let's put all the Corn Flakes back in the box."
