I thought this might be a good place to put this since it is moving across the internet that Rev. Wright said at a Little Rock church today that "accused people who believe that President Obama is Muslim of being "psychopaths."
The truth is he called them sycophants:
STATEMENT OF REV. WENDELL GRIFFEN CONCERNING INACCURATE REPORTING OF AUGUST 29, 2010 SERMON BY REV. DR. JEREMIAH WRIGHT, JR.
Within hours after Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Jr. preached at New Millennium Church today, the Associated Press reported that Rev. Wright accused people who believe that President Obama is Muslim of being "psychopaths." That report was false, as have been all other news reports that have repeated it. Rev. Wright actually described enemies of truth as "sycophants," a word used to describe a false accuser or slanderer. "Sycophant" also refers to someone who is a flatterer of princes and great men.

If that's true then I can't make a major complaint about his language. That use of "sycophants" is part of the Christian tradition and going after those who he legitimately perceives to be such is well within a pastor's purview.

I'm sure a great number of the people who believe the President is a sekrit Mooslim are psychopaths.

No, such people are not that common. Most of them are well meaning, but badly misinformed. Some of them simply see Obama in a bad light because the economy isn't doing well.

High stress levels contribute to people accepting the most comfortable explanation that requires the least thinking. Ideas that do not buck confirmation bias add the least extra stress.

That's a nice guitar piece. It's not the type of music I would listen to all day, but it's refreshing as a change of pace.
It was also nice that the fire truck stayed on key.

Quite Concur.

Are you sure? A sycophant is an ass-kisser. It doesn't make any sense.
BTW, what's wrong with him calling them psychopaths...that's what they are!

The biblical meaning of "sycophant" is a bit broader.

Sorry, much as a serial killer doesn't get to claim insanity as a defense in most cases, somebody who willfully convinces themselves that something so ridiculous as "Obama is a Muslim" doesn't get to use an insanity defense. At some point they made a conscious choice to diverge from reality and accept a belief system that is completely untethered to the facts. They are responsible for that choice.
