Red Tailed Hawk. Those are fierce, and any body with a tiny dog should keep it indoors when the hawks are around. They'll eat it for lunch.

Very nice. I was just out trying to take some pics of my garden. I used to be ok with my old 35mm but I just can't get the hang of digital photography yet. Too much shit is automated, very frustrating. I would settle for the ability to manually focus but that's not an option.

Yeah the point and shoot cameras are often overly automated for anyone experienced. Canon addresses that with a couple models that have the same processor chip as my 7D. Very flexible, user wise. Or hey, second hand SLR's are a bargain these days.

[1] Arizona is out of the question. No way I'm heading there, even if I'm paid to.

At the risk of starting a brawl, Chicago > NYC for visiting. The restaurants are sans pareil, the weather is often less oppressive, and the crowds aren't as bad.

I live in Florida, but unless you can't live without seeing Disneyworld, don't go to Orlando in the summer. Brutal heat + brutal humidity and no ocean. Nearly any coastal city in Florida would be better than Orlando...again, unless you absolutely must see Disneyworld.

Very nice. I was just out trying to take some pics of my garden. I used to be ok with my old 35mm but I just can't get the hang of digital photography yet. Too much shit is automated, very frustrating. I would settle for the ability to manually focus but that's not an option.

Really? Most cameras, even the cheap consumer ones, have a way to manual focus. What kind is yours?

Also an attempted Hijacking in the Mediterranean

Rome (CNN) -- An apparently agitated passenger attacked a flight attendant on Alitalia Flight 329 from Paris to Rome late Sunday and asked that the flight be diverted to Tripoli, Libya, the airline said.
Other flight attendants immobilized the attacker, Alitalia said, and the plane and its 131 passengers landed safely at Rome's Fiumicino airport, where the attacker was taken into police custody.
The flight attendant was taken to the airport emergency room for a check-up, the airline said.
Italy's state-run ANSA news agency reported the attacker was a man from Kazakhstan and that he attacked the flight attendant with nail clippers.

When Ramzi Binalshibh, a key liaison between the Sept. 11 hijackers and al-Qaeda, was arrested at a safe house in Karachi on the first anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, there was a four-hour standoff while the Yemeni and two others held knives to their own throats and threatened to kill themselves rather than be taken.
