Republican Craig Huey denounces ugly right wing web ad

Today, California Republican Craig Huey denounced the crude racist and sexist advertisement produced by wingnut loon Ladd Ehrlinger, Jr., but his opponent in the special election, Janice Hahn, is calling for an investigation into whether Ehrlinger coordinated illegally with the Huey campaign.

Hahn’s campaign noted that the video was produced by Turn Right USA, which has a mailbox at a Gardena check cashing business. A vendor that produced lawn signs for Huey, Campaign L.A., used to have a box at the same address.

“I’m not a statistician, but I think I have a better chance of winning the Super Lotto Jackpot, than these two Pro-Huey political groups winding up in the exact same address by accident,” said Dave Jacobson, Hahn’s spokesman.

So, explain something to me. Yes, this is a Contraception/Abortion issue.

The 2nd Amendment argument that if they government controls firearms, they, in essence, control individuals. Meaning, without the right to self-defense we are not free.

Now apply that to Contraception.

If the individual does not have the right to control their participation in the growth or decrease of the population --who does?

Why should the government have that right?

IMHO, in a free society, THAT would be as basic as self-defense. The government's powers woule be limited in favor of the individual.

(And to Hebrew speakers with a solid Jewish education, the claims that they found "the ten commandments" written like that is absurd on its face. It looks like an amateur forgery done relatively recently.)

I don't know, I think these same people are pretty happy with scientists can determine what kind of cancer you have and how it will progress and what kind of treatment will work from one or two little cells they biopsied.

Also science has unlocked the human genome along with other discoveries like the fact our DNA is made up retroviruses that could help us understand to control and eventually prevent genetic diseases.

I know I'm in late but I don't think that Huey can be blamed for this piece of filth. All sorts of people rent mailboxs and having one at the same place proves nothing. Hahn's just throwing stuff out, hoping to tar the opposition (though the ad did genuinely wrong her, let it be said). And to be honest, I can't believe Huey would do something this dumb.

It's very easy for anyone to avoid being accused to being racist or sexist. For example, when I saw this ad, I knew instantly that the maker would be accused of racism, and I also knew exactly why. The thing is that I disagree with those reasons.

The video plays on various genre tropes from gangsta rap. It invokes stereotypes of gangsta rappers, not stereotypes of black people. It's only racist if you equate the two (or if there is a reasonable expectation that the audience will equate the two, which there isn't). Depicting a politician as a whore is a little crass, but that's a pretty standard insult for politicians and a common theme of political cartoons and so on. I don't think it's over the line.

That's a statement of no consequence. Most gangsta rappers are black != most black people are gangsta rappers or fans. And only the second of those statements is potentially racist. Get your syllogisms straight.

If someone made an anti-Obama attack ad using gangsta rap, with the implication that Obama is black, therefore he listens to gangsta rap, that would be racist. Making an ad about gang members and using gangsta rap is just making a cultural reference.

There's absolutely nothing that right wingers won't try to spin. Obama as a witch doctor with a bone through his nose, Obama as a shoeshine boy, Obama as a monkey -- with every one of these examples, we've had right wingers arguing that there was no racism involved.

And they KNOW that there is racism involved.

At the bottom of it, what this shows is that right wing racists are cowards, who don't even have the courage to stand up and admit it when they're exploiting stereotypes. They think everyone is as stupid as they are, and if they just lie persuasively enough they'll get away with it.
