Video: Jon Stewart vs. Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday

I have to say that Stewart handles these interviews with Fox News personalities better than anyone. He tells them things they don't want to hear, defends his positions with ease and despite his telling uncomfortable truths (for the Fox operation), the talking heads still genuinely seem to like him.
I really don't know how he does it.

'...we give the other side of the story.'
If that's not an admittance of The Death of Murrow then I don't know what is. Wallace just admitted to being a Syndicated Balance Fairy.
Wallace is totally clueless about what Stewart is trying to point out to him.

Humor with the truth backing it up. That and no blatant hatred that seems to pass for wisdom these days from certain quarters. When a comedian has more cognitive reasoning than most politicians it will reveal who is for sale and who is bought. Simplistic, yes. Factual, you bet.

Chris Wallace's examples of "liberal bias" really are laughable. One fake outrage after another. Leaving out a detail about the AZ immigration law is supposed to prove bias? Really, really lame. Wallace ends up looking like a complete tool in this one.

My opinion about Wallace dropped immensely. I thought Wallace a relatively objective and serious counterweight to the nutters. Either he was put up to this or we just saw the real Wallace.

Stewart always flubs a chunk of these FOX interviews. Why doesn't he just point out that Ailes has donated to GOP candidates? Point out the profusion of right-wing shows and talking points - and ask Wallace how he can claim with a straight face that FOX isn't a GOP propaganda outfit? Why Palin only visits FOX for interviews. etc. etc. etc.

Because even if Stewart isn't always respectful, he is mostly respectful. He also doesn't want to lose his access to FOX programs. If he called Chris Wallace a "propaganda hack", Wallace would say "Don't come back". And Wallace gets good ratings, as does O'Reilly.

I'd suggest you watch the video before claiming that Stewart is an asshole. He makes points that Wallace simply cannot refute. Wallace had the smug look of someone who was going to put Stewart in his place, and Stewart demolished him while maintaining a civil tone and without breaking a sweat.
Wallace was reduced to showing footage of a Comedy Central celebrity roast to try and 'prove his point.' At that point, I snickered too.

Shittiest software ever written, bar none.
Image: NZuXy.png
I could write a friggin DOS batch file that consisted of nothing more than:
:start
echo Shitty software!
goto start
and it would be less shitty than Flash.
It crashes in Windows. It crashes in numerous flavors of Linux. It crashes in Android. No idea about OS X, but I'm sure it crashes with either a bang or a whimper there, too. It crashes in 32bit environments. It crashes 10 times more in 64bit environments.
Sarah Connor doesn't need to worry about terminators; she needs to worry about Adobe Flash.
The RealAudio series had rubber skin. We spotted them easy. But these are new. Sweat, bad breath, everything. Very hard to spot.
Listen, and understand: that Flash plug-in is out there. It is going to hunt you down and kill you, because that's what it does. THAT'S ALL IT DOES. It can't be bargained with; it can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead.
Can we stop it? I don't know. With these weapons, I don't know. But our best shot is HTML5. That's why Flashnet sent the Terminator back. It needs to kill HTML5 before it has a change to take hold and finally make Flash obsolete.

McCain blames fires on illegal migrants.
US Senator John McCain has blamed illegal immigrants for starting some of the huge wildfires that have devastated the state of Arizona in recent weeks.
Arizona's Republican senator said migrants "set fires because they wanted to signal others... to keep warm" and also to distract border agents.
The comments by Mr McCain prompted a sharp rebuke from Latino rights advocates, CNN reported.
The fires have already gutted some 700,000 acres (283,279 ha) of land.
'Careless' remarks
Mr McCain's comments came during a news conference in Phoenix, Arizona, on Saturday. The senator said: "There is substantial evidence that some of these fires have been caused by people who have crossed our border illegally."
However, he did not provide any details of the evidence he cited.
No words for it....

re: #79 Slumbering Behemoth
Hell, I don't get the joke.
And it was with this plaintive cry for help that I was inspired to finally do something with my life. I intend to found a charity for adults who have been insufficiently exposed to the science fiction, horror, and monster movies that were made during the period spanning 1900 to about 1990 or so. Ignorance of this vital facet of human culture is tragic, but it need not be a cultural death sentence.
Millions of people lumber through each day without the slightest awareness of such classic cultural gems as The Evil Dead, They Live!, Star Trek in all its various incarnations, and yes, some even live out their entire lives without ever having quoted Star Wars in social situations. Tragically, many are exposed to Star Wars references every day and never even know it.
For some, it's tragically too late. But millions more can still be saved. For just pennies a day, you can help educate a human in the ways of classic science fiction and horror movie iconology. Like little Camille Finkelstein here. Only a few months ago, she had never heard of the Voight-Kampf test. I'm about to get my third mom. Mom died in October, and told my dad (before she died) to date a friend of hers. They've become inseparable. It's adorable. They're marrying next weekend.
My Mother-in-law (who I call mom) has had some serious surgeries recently. We've been concerned that the Choir Eternal may have been making a seat for her. Finally, she's on the mend; the doctors expect her to live for quite a while.
I'm a lucky man.
Finally, my daughter is moving three hours away. That means both of our kids are gone.

Odd, I know. I'll see them from time to time.
I'm sure I'll have my moments, but of the four of us? There's only one I want to spend all of the rest of my time with; that's the one I married.
I've told them in the past, "I married your mother. I want to spend the rest of my life with her. I ended up with you. I do not want to spend the rest of my life with you." They know I love them; they also know that I want them far, far away most of the time.

Rory McIlroy cruises to eight-shot victory at 2011 U.S. Open
A golf tournament played out at Congressional Country Club, and the simple version of what transpired is that a chubby-cheeked 22-year-old from Northern Ireland whipped the field to take the U.S. Open. That Rory McIlroy held the trophy in fading light Sunday night had been anticipated, maybe even expected, since Thursday.
But this wasn’t about being neat or tidy. Say what you will about Congressional and its receptive, rain-soaked greens, its less-than-penal rough, its flurry of low scores more fitting of, say, the Quad City Classic than the U.S. Open. McIlroy’s performance here will be remembered for its thorough nature, and the numbers associated with it.
He not only became the first to ever be 13 under par at a U.S. Open, but with a birdie at the 10th, he reached 17 under. His four-round total of 268 blew away the previous record of 272, accomplished four times, most recently by Jim Furyk in 2003.

It depends. I hate some beaches too. Florida, CA, even many beaches in Hawaii are dreadful vacations for me. Nothing to do but sit among the noisy crowd of rude entitled tourists and their bratty children. I'll settle for a less scenic spot if I can get a little peace and quiet.

Facebook happy father's day post from my son...
Get ready to wipe some tears.
"hope you had a superbly mediocre and bland father's day!"
*sniff*
Funny, this morning you said this...(and got a ding from me)

I just watched the entire interview (recorded earlier). I like Chris Wallace. He asks concise questions. I also liked the replies that Jon Stewart gave. It would be good to hear them have another conversation.

Love the water. Love sitting on a balcony over the ocean. As soon as my toes touch the sand? I'm unhappy. Never have liked it. I love lakes, mountains, streams, cities, and the ocean. But I have a great dislike for the beach.

Went to see Stephen Sondheim's "Company" today (at the movie theatre)...Stephen Colbert isn't a bad singer, and it was good to see him out of his "Report" character even if it was as a Colbert-ish husband in a broadway play.

let me know when you head for Jamaica...you will find exactly that, you can bet on it...crowds are the nemesis of all true beach freaks like me

I think Wallace was a little overly confrontational. It's not really the way to conduct an honest interview if he really wanted to understand how Stewart sees his role in the media/comedy context.

My favorite beach:
You got to drive a long way to get to it, and then hike some. Keeps out the weak.

I don't see Wallace as a lunatic, but guilt by association and all that...he's dirt, TV news stars are just too vain for me...I'm waiting for one to show up on air with a black eye and swollen nose and say my wife knocked the shit out of me last night

I remember Jon's first show after 9-11. I think he summed up his "role" very succinctly. I'm paraphrasing, but as I recall he said,
"I throw spitballs at the world."

Okay...that was an interesting interview. Wallace is so hell bent on proving Stewart is a liberally biased person that even when Stewart points out that Wallace is equating himself with Jon, he can't see it.
