Adulterers for Newt

Meanwhile, Newt Gingrich has picked up the endorsement of a dating website for people who want to cheat on their spouses.

A website that promotes adultery has endorsed Newt Gingrich for president, and even erected a giant billboard in Pennsylvania to announce it. Next to a picture of Gingrich making a “shh” gesture, the billboard reads: “Faithful Republican, Unfaithful Husband.” Ashleymadison.com, a dating website for people looking to cheat on their spouses, welcomes visitors with the tag line, “Life is short, Have an affair.”

Double Heh - because one Heh just doesn’t suffice - mostly because Newt’s a serial philanderer.

‘Life is short, Have an affair.’

. Hey, who’s counting? Have two or three.

Them again? I actually just learned about this site today, because there was an ad in the local tabloid rag. “The Average Escort Will Have Sex With Seven Men Today. The Average Woman Will Have Sex With Seven Men In Her Lifetime.” And some crap about how 92 percent of the guys who go to them ‘hook up’ in days with ‘clean’ women.

Truly weird and disgusting.

8 Feline Fearless Leader  Mon, Dec 19, 2011 11:35:01am

Appropriateness of the image aside, is it legal for them to use Newt’s picture in an advertisement without permission?

There’s two elements of hypocrisy floating around this story:

One is Newt having any chance of becoming the head of the party of family values.

The other is how much people pretend that cheating is a relatively rare phenomenon, and that someone who does it is irredeemable and can never be trusted again.

I basically have Dan Savage’s attitude towards it.

Newt was lambasting Clinton for having an affair while Newt was actually having an affair. And I’m sure many of those who are lambasting Newt for having had an affair have had affairs of their own.

I don’t necessarily see infidelity as a dealbreaker in terms of politicians I will and won’t vote for. Newt’s a pretty shabby character though. It goes beyond having an affair.

24 Petero1818  Mon, Dec 19, 2011 11:47:17am

The guys at Ashley Madison are good at one thing. Getting publicity by associating with scandal. Often spending no money. They did this with Tiger Woods, publicly offering him an endorsement contract after his marital strife became public. Even though Tiger obviously wants nothing to do with their company, by putting the offer out there they get a ton of publicity. In this case, it appears to have done the same thing again. The cost of the billboard is small compared to the national coverage they get by doing it.

Oh totally. I’m just saying that Newt’s hypocrisy in lecturing Clinton about having affairs while he himself was having one too is more important than the actual affair that Newt had. The hypocrisy of it is the bit that caves in Newt’s moral pretentious, for me, not the affair.

Newt keeps saying that he’s made mistakes and has had to go ask forgiveness from G-d. Hey, just because Newt’s made mistakes doesn’t mean I have to make one by voting for him or recommending him for the top job in the nation.

Seriously though, the infidelity thing does speak to his character and judgment. That he lambasted and sought prosecution of President Clinton for his infidelities all while Newt was busy cheating on his own wife shows how situational he is when it comes to his politics. His ethics and morals are lacking, but it’s his positions that are most troublesome.

Rick Perry: There Is No Proof That Fracking Causes Groundwater Pollution, Americans Have Been ‘Hoodwinked’

a firm grasp of basic facts is not known to be GOP presidential candidate Rick Perry’s strong suit. So Perry surprised a few town hall attendees in Iowa yesterday when he confidently asserted that there is absolutely no proof that hydraulic fracturing (more commonly known as fracking) for natural gas causes groundwater pollution.

“We can have this conversation but you cannot show me one place, not one where there is a proven pollution of groundwater by hydraulic fracking,” Perry said, interrupting an Iowan concerned about fracking’s environmental effects. “That’s false,” replied one audience member, spurring Perry to demand published proof and add, “I’m truly offended that the American public would be hoodwinked by stories that do not scientifically hold up”:

PERRY: Bring me the paper, bring me the paper, show me the paper. I am truly offended that the American public would be hoodwinked by stories that do not scientifically hold up. If that was true, it would be on the front page of every newspaper. It would be on ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox News. Everybody would be running that story. We have been using hydraulic fracturing in my home state for years and this is a fear tactic that the left is using and the environmental community is using that absolutely, excuse the pun, does not hold water.

AUDIENCE MEMBER: Not true.

PERRY: Bring me the evidence and once we do that, you show it to me, and I’ll be the first to say you’ve got a point.

Basically. The story is that they find her to keep the king warm in bed—literally—at the end of his life.

My old landlady in London was a nurse, and saw her sort of in that light.

What interests me about her is that there’s no apparent reason she’s super-important—she’s just a beautiful young virgin who sleeps with the king—but when David died, Adonijah asks for permission to marry her, and that clearly alerts Batsheva that he’s going to try to grab the throne from Solomon. Avishag married Solomon, and Adonijah ends up getting killed.

It’s as though there’s some sort of ritual significance to her, beyond ‘concubine he wasn’t well enough to actually have sex with’.

There is a story in the Talmud, that Avishag was making fun of David because he was an old man, and couldn’t perform. David summoned Batsheva (who was an old woman by that time) and proceeded to satisfy her multiple times! This was long before Viagra was invented.

Reminds me of the man in Irish myth who is described as a fellow of big appetites—he drinks so much, and eats so much, and so on, and they explain that it took seven women to satisfy him—if his wife was not around.

I don’t know if that means that she could match him for endurance, or just that those seven women weren’t getting near him if she was there.

He’s been doing his “homework” by watching those Conoco Phillips commercials.

They were discussing this on the Diane Rheem show, on NPR. My understanding is that there are pretty clear examples of contamination and pretty clear understanding of how it can happen, in addition to the waste disposal aspect that is universally relevant.

However on the other side is the fact that there have been a million holes drilled and only a very few that may be a problem so the issue is locally important to some but has not reached a crisis nationally, although the potential exists.

It should be an issue of regulation, not of banning. Right now the regulation is patchy.

And New York State has opted on a temporary ban while they work out the regulation. Compare to Pennsylvania where they have allowed drilling and are trying to work out the appropriate regulation after the fact.

Yeah, and I suppose Ashley is the owner operator of the site. Either way it just sucks for families. Too bad consenting adults never ponders the spouse.

Like I said, I know couples who are all right with extramarital hanky-panky, as far as rules are followed.

I cannot see any of them going to a site like this. They’d be horrified at the implied secrecy. And the skeeziness.

Sure thing there Rickie. Hey, where is your residence water well located? I just need to pump a little of this sewage I have down in the ground. Hope you don’t mind. Just because your well water and my sewage are both down there together you don’t have to worry about them coming together like chocolate and peanut-butter.

It’s fine for some folks to have affairs. They call themselves “swingers”. Not something I would choose if I were married, but I ain’t judging.

But that was not the case(s) with Newt, and this billboard is funny as all hell. Suck it, Newt.
