Anti-Shariah Movement Losing Steam

Bigoted right wing fear mongering fail
Wingnuts • Views: 22,046

This is good news; those unnecessary xenophobic “anti-shariah” bills promoted by the loony right wing are failing across the nation: Anti-Shariah Movement Loses Steam in State Legislatures.

At this point in 2011, 22 state legislatures had either passed or were considering bills to prohibit judges from considering either Islamic law, known as Shariah, or foreign law in their decisions.

What a difference a year can make.

The wave of anti-Shariah legislation has broken in recent weeks, as bills in several states have either died or been withdrawn, raising questions about whether the anti-Shariah movement has lost its momentum.

But the craziness isn’t over yet:

At the moment, anti-foreign law bills are alive in 13 states, including Oklahoma, where an anti-Shariah constitutional amendment passed by voters in 2010 has been ruled unconstitutional by two federal courts, prompting Sooner State lawmakers to craft a revised version.

Well how long was it going to be before some anti contraception bill actually resembled sharia law as used by perhaps the Taliban?! Seems they had to back off.

I hope we can next have an Anti-Voldemort Movement, or something.

Would be equally productive and worthwhile.

The Army's Coast Artillery branch hasn't gotten much attention lately either, and for the same reason, lack of a real threat combined with obsolete doctrine.

Establishment clause not withstanding, Coast Artillery had a patron saint, Saint Barbara. She is also the patron saint of the Russian Strategic Rocket Forces, now that commie atheists no longer run that august organization. Saint Joseph of Cupertino is the patron saint of military aviators, but I preferred to rely on science, engineering, and situational awareness when I was in that business. Saint Joe was said to be slow-witted but capable of miraculous feats of levitation, not a combination in which I am willing to put much faith.
