How Much Did Mendacious Mitt Lie This Week?
How much did Mitt Romney lie this week?
A lot. Really. A lot. Steve Benen has an impressive list of Mitt’s mendacities: Chronicling Mitt’s Mendacity, Vol. XXIX.

He thinks we're stupid. Hell with the welfare bullshit, you had the Republican who wrote the welfare reform bill that got signed by Clinton into law calling him out. So Mitt has his own saying "Mitt, tell the truth." This race in an ideal world would be a landslide but because Mitt gets tons of money from wealthy Obama haters, it's a race.

Just gonna stand there and watch me burn
But that’s all right because I like the way it hurts
Just gonna stand there and hear me cry
But that’s all right because I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie
Ohhh, I love the way you lie
I wonder if they could sign Rihanna for the RNC?

I know, poor Mitt has been so nice to Obama. I mean it's not like he never said that the president has never held down a real job before or claimed that his supporters support him because they want free stuff from the government. Poor Mitt. He can't catch a break from the mean Obama campaign.

Mitt Romney = political psychopath. Heartless economics, ruthless business practices and political mendacity fit him like a glove.
Nothing new, I know, but still.

For the full turd-punch effect, you need to mix in the stunning incompetence.

Anglo-Saxon white chocolate heritage teapot, obviously. Unlike some people.

“[O]ur campaign would be-- helped immensely if we had an agreement between both campaigns that we were only going to talk about issues and that attacks based upon-- business or family or taxes or things of that nature."
[...]
“[W]e only talk about issues. And we can talk about the differences between our positions and our opponent's position.” Romney said of his own campaign: “[O]ur ads haven't gone after the president personally. … [W]e haven't dredged up the old stuff that people talked about last time around. We haven't gone after the personal things.”

I found that link when I was traipsing through the JREF and my immediate thought was, "I wonder if Charles has seen this yet." Turns out, he hadn't.

Yunno, if I had lived in Massachusetts, I could well have voted for Mitt. I used to appreciate any GOP candidate who was reasonable on social issues and seemed to have reasonable ideas about health care and supporting government programs that benefitted everyone.
What the hell happened to him?

The same thing that happened to most of the rest of the GOP: They got roundly beaten by a black man. The Good Ol' Boys Club in action, ladies and gentlemen.

The same thing that happened to McCain. He gave up what principles he had in an attempt to become POTUS. (The main difference between McCain and Romney to a large degree is deciding how much principle Romney started this process with compared to McCain.)

It's no surprise that talk about ethics and civility would nauseate Klondike Barbie.
She's proven over and over again that she's allergic to both.

Thing is, there was a time when my only major problem with the GOP was over social issues. There was a socon wing of the party, but they were kept in check by the pragmatists in the party.
And I preferreed a government that did not involve itself in the markets, but merely regulated them to the extent necessary to assure that they functioned without intervention.
Then came Bush...and the rest is history.

Romney Charged A Fee For Being Blind
“It now costs to be blind in Massachusetts. The state’s approximately 35,000 blind and legally blind residents must now pay $10 annually for a certificate of blindness and $15 every four years for a blind identification card. Without the formerly-free documents, blind people cannot take advantage of tax abatements, affordable housing programs, health care services, transportation discounts and other benefits. ... The fees originated in February, in Gov. Mitt Romney’s budget proposal for fiscal 2004.” (Shaun Sutner, “Advocates Fight Fees For The Blind,” Telegram & Gazette, 8/5/03)

And what, exactly, Mitt, would you go after from Obama's past? One of the fake outrages seasoned with racial animus? The conspiracy theories about his parents and his place of birth?

I would not make too much of that: it seems that the other benefits offered are more than balanced by the cost of registering.
On the other hand, I do not see the necessity of it.

I just got off the phone with my son. They are keeping my grandson in the hospital for another day, but he came out of the spinal tap (they will not get the results for a while). My son gave him the phone and he tried to eat it, and laughed and giggled so I know he's OK.

As I read it, those benefits already existed. They're not something the fee made possible; the fee is a new obstacle to obtaining them.
