Bush’s Speech to the UN
Here is the complete text of President Bush’s speech to the United Nations General Assembly this morning. I still wince every time he says nuke-ya-ler. (And I wonder if his speech coaches deliberately leave that uncorrected?) But this was an extraordinary ultimatum, delivered with real conviction, putting responsibility directly on the United Nations to enforce its own resolutions. If I were Kofi Annan, I’d be embarrassed.
I don’t expect the UN to rise to the occasion and respond with effective action, though. Bush told the world, “It’s on. You can stand there and dither, or join in.” And the United Nations will almost certainly disgrace itself again.
