As the campaign manager for Cthulhu/Zod 2016, let me be the first to welcome you to the 2016 campaign season. We know that 2012 has been an extremely challenging one, so we're here to make it easy for you.
Your choice will be Cthulhu/Zod or Cthulhu/Zod. We're running both tickets. Why? Because we can - and we will take lying, misrepresenting, flip flopping, and asshattery to new levels of awesomeness.
And for those concerned about birth certificates for my candidates, you have nothing to worry about. Just take a gander here.

More 'technical' errors...
ST. PETERSBURG — An hour after polls opened Tuesday morning, the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections Office mistakenly placed hundreds — possibly thousands — of automatic calls to voters instructing them that they had until 7 p.m. Wednesday to vote.
But that is wrong. Polls close at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Any ballots turned in after that time won't be accepted.
The calls went out between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. because of a glitch with the SOE's phone system. Calls were made Monday alerting voters who had requested mail ballots but had not returned them that they had until 7 p.m. "tomorrow" to get them turned in.

I voted this morning before work. The mere presence of a line in front of city hall at 7:00 this morning surprised many voters, indicating what I had mentioned several times previously - high voter turnout. Indeed, the poll workers even commented that they'd seen more voters in the first 15 minutes today than in the entirety of the Minnesota primary election. For all that, it was quick and painless - stand in line, give your name, verify address - no need for ID, they just ask you where you live - then hand you a card to trade for a ballot. Fill it out, scan it, and you're on your way.

Minnesota churches violate polling place ban on political speech
Churches that are also polling places in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota are being accused of displaying political speech well within the designated 100-foot line around polling places within which political speech and attempts to influence votes are forbidden. According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune‘s “Whistleblower” blog, some voters are encountering posted prayers against same sex marriage in polling locations that are Catholic churches, while another church polling place spent the morning flying a banner from its main building that read, “Strengthen marriage, don’t redefine it.”
Stephanie Weiss, a voter in West St. Paul, shot a photo with her phone of a prayer in the form of a letter on Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis letterhead posted 15 feet from the polling place door at West St. Paul’s St. Jospeh’s Catholic Church.
“Heavenly Father,” it began, “Through the powerful intercession of the Holy Family, grant to this local Church the many graces we need to foster, strengthen and support faith-filled, holy marriages and hold families.”
Weiss said that she wasn’t sure whether the prayer amounted to political speech, but that she found it offensive.
“I thought, this is why you can’t campaign within 100 feet. This is how you disenfranchise people, right here,” she told the Star-Tribune. “If it isn’t campaign material, it was still a really insightful experience for me, but I’m shaking.”

I was a Zod supporter during the primaries and I thought that Cthulhu treated Zod very poorly in that race, especially the second debate where he attempted to swallow Zod whole, but the offer of the number two spot on the ticket really brought the party together, and I'm glad to wholeheartedly support both going forward.

Similar case here, though we do have to show ID. But on the upside, they've finally gotten with the 21st century, so that now the voter rolls are on laptops instead of War and Peace sized books. Was close to a 2 hour wait in line, but I was able to pass the time with a nice older woman who was saying she only votes in the presidential elections but otherwise is not very political.

Actually, in case people get the wrong idea, here's a brief "trip report" on the voting process:
I voted at about noon today in Brunswick, Maine. Everything was organized and designed for convenience. Voters were organized according to last name, A-B, C-D, etc.
Because this was my first time voting in the state after living in Virginia for ten years, I had to register to vote -- fortunately, Maine is very proactive when it comes to voting privileges; I was able to register yesterday and then cast my ballot today.
It took less than ten minutes from entry to exit. It's a bona fide shame that some people can't be bothered to spend that little amount of time to exercise citizenship rights.
I voted *mostly* Democrat, which will surprise no one -- the first of my three exceptions was a vote for Angus King, an Independent running for U.S. Senate, King is ahead in the polls, and I voted for him because I most definitely do not want to see a replay of 2010 where we let in Governor Tea Party with 38% of the vote.
The second of my two exceptions was an independent candidate for State Representative who called me up to discuss the issues; he leaned left and I voted for him because he made the effort.
The third exception was a Republican candidate for a local office: he was running unopposed, and I still believe that regardless of one's political views, citizen participation in the system is very important.
And Yes on Question 1, "Should the state issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples?"

Florida's Governor, Rick Scott, has escalated the partisan wars significantly, by going after the very FOUNDATION of American democracy: one person, one vote. It is absolutely vital that Democrats not reward this bad behavior! No more compromises! The efforts to suppress the people's vote are completely serious, and may succeed.
In 2000, Florida's butterfly ballot led to prolonged agony for the entire nation. But in 2000 there wasn't actual voter suppression, just a very poorly-designed butterfly ballot. The situation today is TOTALLY different, in that the voting problems are the result of purposeful and conscious behavior. This cannot go unanswered; we're in real danger of losing our democracy, and losing the "United" in the United States. Osama bin Laden would be overjoyed.

Our polling place had a registrar in the entryway. If you were not registered, they would register you then and there. Minnesota has historically been one of the top voting states in the US, but that surprised me a little bit.

Christie would be fine in times of crisis - like Hurricanes - but he'd be a disaster with regard to spending on infrastructure (that's for the states), women's rights (anti-choice), immigration, and the economy.
Yeah, he'd be progress for the GOP though. Granted that's damning with faint praise.

All these reports of voter intimidation, suppression, electioneering inside polling places, etc...THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS!
Watching CNN reporting from various polling locations, they have been highlighting one spot in what appears to be a urban area in South Florida. The precinct waiting line at last report was over FOUR hours - the line stretching for over a mile - and this is in a place with no inclement weather or other external logistical issues being reported. They simply didn't designate enough voting machines/personnel to handle the population, which in a federal election, in my opinion is unconscionable. Even with early voting relieving a portion of the load, in cases of federal elections there should be legislation in place that designates a workable ratio of voting machines to the number of registered voters.

Around here, the narrative is that Obama will steal the election or that Mitt will win because his momentum broke through Obama stealing this election. Lining that up with internet crap, I predict 4 more years of utter fucking paranoid lunacy from right wingers, regardless of who wins.

These long loines for voting are alien to me. 15 minutes from start to finish. And we don't have early voting here. We have to get it all done in one day.
There was a long line at the venue when I went in this morning, but it was only because the polls hadn't opened yet. Once the polls opened, they split voters out by precinct and it took only 10 minutes. I was the 11th voter in my precinct to cast a ballot.

Our voting places are physically separated by voting precinct. Within about 5 miles of my house, there are at least 3 different polling places. One was for our city, the other 2 for the surrounding area. It took me about half an hour to get through the line, and by that time I believe over 150 people had been through. A lot of early morning voters here in the wild north country.

Scarborough repeatedly shouts ‘Benghazi!’ to block voter suppression talk
Conservative MSNBC host Joe Scarborough on Monday attempted to shut down any talk of voter suppression by shouting “Benghazi! Benghazi! Benghazi!” over and over again to change the subject to the September attacks on Americans in Libya, a topic that Republicans believe hurts President Barack Obama.
During a discussion about the tight presidential race in Florida, co-host Mika Brzezinski attempted to point out that Republicans had restricted early voting, creating long lines and chaos for voters in some counties.
“You just feel like you have to finish with a story, Republicans bad, [Florida Gov.] Rick Scott bad, voting suppression,” Scarborough complained, throwing up his arms. “I have three words: Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi. I’m wandering around my ranch house muttering the words, ‘Benghazi.’ I mean, seriously, are we going here? Are we really going here?”
“But you know what?” Brzezinski attempted to continue. “We’ve had a…”
“Benghazi! Benghazi! Benghazi!” Scarborough interrupted.
“It’s absolutely a story,” NBC’s David Gregory said of the long voter lines.
“Benghazi’s a story,” Scarborough quipped.

I feel particularly good about voting this year for some reason.
The way the GOP has handled themselves over the last 4 years is the reason I'm so worked up/engaged over this race. These people have collectively decided that they will do anything short of assassination to regain total control of the country.
Nothing is off-limits to these people: lying, racism, misogyny, restrictive voting laws. There really seems to be a "We'll take everyone down with us if we don't win" mentality from many conservatives.
It's the first time in my life I ever donated to a candidate. And given my finances lately, it wasn't easy. But I can manage if it keeps people like Romney and Ryan from deciding how this country is run.

Arizona Defends Its Restrictive Abortion Ban Because Fetal Birth Defects Are “The Woman’s Problem”
Judge Andrew Kleinfeld, a panel member appointed by former President George H.W. Bush, repeatedly expressed concern that the law might not afford women the opportunity to abort a fetus with birth defects in cases where the defects are not apparent until just before 20 weeks.
He also questioned the need to prohibit abortions at that stage of the pregnancy, especially for fetuses bound to develop “horrible birth defects.”
“They’re basically born into hell and then die,” Kleinfeld said. “I don’t see how the courts could act before viability” of the fetus.
“With due respect, that’s the woman’s problem,” responded David Cole, Arizona’s solicitor general. “She should have made that decision earlier.”

Damn, my brother sent me a link to Silver Gull Beach Club. It's out in the Rockaways not far from Breezy Point (between Breezy Point and Riis Park). Used to go there as a kid, and the place was the backdrop for the movie The Flamingo Kid.
Great place to spend the summer.
Now? It's wrecked. Completely. Just like the rest of the Shore (NJ and LI).

re: #40 Almost Killed by Space Hookers
I would like to take this moment to ask you all to join me in an invocation:
Dear Lord,
Please fuck the republicans. No seriously, fuck them hard, sideways and in unnatural manners that cause them, even a year from now, to wince and waddle every time they turn on Fox news. For verily I say, they are the most slappable of douches. Really, please God, give their prayers as much notice as they would give a poor person's prayers.
They are backwards and rape your creation. Hell, as you know, they have a lot of issues with rape (and not acting like ignorant pigs over it) as it is. After all, women and the poor and the brown aren't really people to them.
They hate America and think nothing of crippling her for their own gain. They are sleazy con men and hypocrites who bang on your Book while being the most smug and cruel of dicks. They are so dumb they think people once rode dinosaurs (when they aren't denying that dinosaurs are real).
They will cause war and poverty and famine and collapse, all so that their scions can have yet more money and they scoff at the idea of doing their share. They put their grubby boots on the necks of those who actually work and create things. They are cowards. Everything they touch turns soulless. Please God, let not this nation waste into plastic. Of course, they are happy to take money themselves from the government. Romney never mentions how it was federal money that bailed out the Olympics. But I digress, God.
Please just fuck them. Use your smiting powers and do it hard.
Can I get an Amen?
A. Fucking. Men!

I think they may have done that as a precaution just in case he decides to change it...

Yes, he actually said it
"a more easygoing attitude about rape"
Those are words sure to inspire confidence in a political party.

No, no, no-it's a baseless accusation according to Breibart.com and that should be good enough for us./
So in Breitbart speak "baseless" means "entirely correct and 100% accurate?"

Agreed, but I really hope they don't end by just having everyone die at the hands of the relentless zombie hoards.
In the comics, they settle down and build fortified communities.

How about every time he says something intelligent?
That's what we'll call 'the Mormon drinking game.'

Got a nice prime rib on sale last night, going to enjoy it with some wild rice, mashed potatoes, yorkshire pudding and lima beans tonight with a bottle of red wine I've been saving as I watch the results come in.
Election meal tonight is baked ziti in a red sauce with a blueberry pie for dessert. Alcohol will be served. Also picked up a nice multi-grain baguette from the bakery while running errands at lunch.

Way to improve your image, Mississippi.//
Johnson said Tuesday morning that he is personally delivering the names and registration information collected by the NAACP to Dunn’s office. He urged voters to file an affidavit ballot, which will be counted when their registration is verified.

Should we institute a drinking game for every time Wolf Blitzer says "still too close to call"?
not unless you want your liver to burn for 3 months when they cremate you.
