GOP Gov. Nikki Haley’s White Supremacist Reelection Official Resigns

More racist than ever
Politics • Views: 33,765

You know that reputation the right wing has for cozying up to white supremacists and racists? And you know how right wingers always fly into a rage when someone brings it up, denying that they’re sympathetic to racists — in fact, denying that they have any problem with racism at all? And you know how they always try to turn the accusation around and call liberals “the real racists?”

Well, stories like this tend to make it difficult for the right to maintain these fictions: GOP Gov. Nikki Haley’s White Supremacist Resigns Campaign.

That’s correct, the Republican governor of South Carolina appointed an overt white supremacist to her reelection steering committee: Roan Garcia-Quintana, director of the Council of Conservative Citizens, one of the most noxious racist hate groups in the United States.

It took a few days, and a good bit of cajoling, but Gov. Nikki Haley’s (R-SC) reelection campaign finally withdrew its support of a white supremacist whom Haley appointed to her reelection steering committee in February. After repeatedly standing by Council of Conservative Citizens Director Roan Garcia-Quintana for several days, the Haley campaign finally asked for, and received, Garcia-Quintana’s resignation on Sunday.

Lest you think that the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Policy Law Center were exaggerating when they called the Council of Conservative a “white supremacist” and “white nationalist hate group,” respectively, check out some of the garbage that’s on their website. If you think calling the Cuban-American Roan Garcia-Quintana a white supremacist is an exaggeration, check out what he said on Friday, when confronted with the controversy:

In an interview with The State Friday, Garcia-Quintana dismissed accusations of racism, saying the council “supports Caucasian heritage.”

“Is it racist to be proud of your own heritage? Is it racist to want to keep your own heritage pure?” Garcia-Quintana said. “Racist is when you hate somebody so much that you want to destroy them.”

And Gov. Nikki Haley didn’t fire Garcia-Quintana immediately when this association was publicized — she defended him, claimed there was “nothing racial about this Cuban-American’s participation in the political process,” and denied he was a racist.

In other words, she followed a well-worn Republican script — denying and trying to divert attention away, then finally bailing out when the heat got too intense, pretending she had no idea about this guy’s white supremacist beliefs.

“While we appreciate the support Roan has provided, we were previously unaware of some of the statements he had made, statements which do not well represent the views of the governor. There is no place for racially divisive rhetoric in the politics or governance of South Carolina, and Governor Haley has no tolerance for it.”

Today’s Republican Party is more in bed with these kinds of racist throwbacks than ever before. This is just the latest in a constant parade of these incidents ever since the election of Barack Obama.

Yes, it’s always funny how they spend days denying that they’re associated with racist assholes, no matter how much evidence it put before them, then suddenly act “shocked” because they’ve “just learned” that they’re associated with a racist asshole and jettison them without any sort of mea culpa.

What the fuck. I don’t like Nikki Haley but I would think she, who has been the subject of some nasty racism herself would know better than to have a bigot like this on her re-election staff but this is just another telling sign of what the modern Republican party is. I love how his defense is that he can’t be a racist because he doesn’t want to exterminate other races but then does the talk about keeping “heritage pure.”

Priebus has ‘good feeling’ Issa will have ‘quite a summer’ investigating Obama

“We’ve got at least eight people around the president that knew something… you start questioning those people,” the RNC chairman explained. “And then those people will start talking about what they knew, and then more will come out.”

“If the president actually knew something then he’s not being truthful and no one around him is,” he continued. “If he didn’t know anything, I think it suggests a level of aloofness or perhaps even incompetence that I think is pretty disturbing in its own right.”

Priebus added: “So this isn’t the end of the line, this is just the beginning. And I’ve got a good feeling that Darrell Issa is going to be having quite a summer in reviewing what’s been going on here in the White House as far as this scandal is concerned.”

Klayman: Jews Behind Gay Marriage, IRS Scandal

It is time for the great majority of Jews, who are honest law-abiding citizens, to speak up and play a role in helping to put these felonious liberal Jews in a place where the sun don’t shine - meaning prison.

That Jews don’t mince words and don’t generally circle the wagons for their own creed is a Hebrew virtue. The God of Abraham and Isaac is not forgiving to His own people when they step out of line and neither have been his flock. True Jews, like true Christians, will police their own house and not allow criminal behavior to go unaddressed, no matter what the source. That is one of our main differences with Muslims, who by and large cover for, or stay silent about, the terrorist deeds of their brethren. Ironically, this helps explain why Obama, who by birth is half Muslim and who in his heart is a Muslim through and through, refuses to call Muslim terrorism the terrorism it is. We Jews and Christians are cut from a different godly cloth - Yahweh.

Godly cloth always gives me a rash.

Bradlee Dean’s attorney, Larry Klayman, allegedly sexually abused his own children

Well this week brought some uncomfortable news for the tracksuit-wearing homophobic preacher — his notorious lawyer, the presumably straight Larry Klayman, has allegedly sexually abused his own children.

A court recently ordered Klayman to pay his ex-wife $325,000 in attorney fees. Klayman appealed, but a judge tossed it out. What’s interesting, however, are a couple nuggets buried in the judge’s ruling (via Ken Avidor — emphasis his):

I expect Christie to do either what he’s doing now or to do a 180.. I think he’ll do the former. I am not a big or really even an admirer of his at all but he does seem to be someone who genuinely wants to work with the President on tough issues and I do respect that. Honestly, I thought Christie was going to have a hard go at it for reasons similar to Giuliani. I know he doesn’t share Giuliani’s views on abortion and gay rights but he’s a man of the cities and suburbs in what has become an increasingly rural party.

The real reason they had to get rid of Garcia-Quintana is probably that they didn’t want to reopen the ‘Hispanics aren’t white!’ outrage, recently seen when George Zimmerman is discussed. Because, you know, rebranding.

Tea Party Labels John McCain An ‘Illegal Immigrant’

On Tuesday, a Tea Party website put out an article that labeled Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) an “illegal immigrant” because he had sneaked into Syria to visit rebels fighting against the Bashar al-Assad regime. Although the White House was aware of McCain’s Syrian visit, the article indicated that his visit is virtually the same as undocumented immigration. The Party also noted that McCain’s humanitarian support for rebels could be attributed to his lack of intelligence, and Democratic turnout for his unsurprising win in the Arizona Senate race. The characterization of McCain is just one incident in a long series of Tea Party movements to unjustifiably incite hatred against undocumented immigrants.

Christie’s actually playing it smart. You can’t win the general with the GOP base. You can, however, win the general if you bring the swing vote over to your side. And Christie knows that the GOP is doing its best to get its ass handed to it in 2014, so there will be a huge fucking reset going into 2016, with moderation being the new right. It’s going to be tough for whoever is the Democratic candidate, and I hope that Rand Paul or someone insane is on the GOP ticket, because a reinvented GOP will get a strong backwind from the media as they love to see a close contest (hence the Romney could beat Obama bullshit for six months).

Yeah, I remember folks saying ‘12 was going to be the sort of kick in the nuts the GOP needed to realize that moderation is something they desperately need. But with the way they’ve gerrymandered districts across the US, they’re in no danger of such significant loses that would inspire a change in direction. At this point, the GOP is not likely to finally jettison the base so much as wait for it to die off naturally.

No. Between gerrymandering and all the elections being local (for all intents and purposes) this won’t happen — barring, that is, some event that turns it into a national referendum.

The more I study the more I think it won’t really get any better in 2016, either. I think a Dem will win at the presidential level (because the Rep side will still be dominated by the far right) and I think the Dems will continue to hold the Senate (because for the most part the states aren’t wholly tea party residences), but we won’t see the house cleaned up till 2022 at the earliest. That’s the set of elections that occur after the next census, when various redistricting may break some of the gerrymandering.

Caveats: national fix to voting, aforementioned “national referendum”, Cruz for Texas Governor, etc.

(adding to already too long - if Cruz runs for Texas Governor he’ll excite the underperforming hispanic base. It might be enough to flip the state from red to blue, but only barely and so turning Texas into a national battleground. While it’s happening, however, the whole issue of gerrymandering will be revisited given Texas is the state that ‘proved’ redistricting can happen between censuses.)

One thing you are forgetting. Mid-Census redistricting. Texas did it in 2003, I think?

Democrats only need to narrowly win a states house and the governorship, and you could rectify the situation in a handful of states, which would be all that is needed.

Refused to acknowledge creationism shouldn’t be taught as science;

Pushed a tax cut with little info on how to pay for it

said he wants to throw a civil rights issue (gay marriage) to an open vote, where the mouth breathers in the state can get their homophobe on.
I don’t disagree but I think his primary opponents will have a field day with him showing himself willing to cooperate with Obama who still going to be reviled in the Republican base.
Sandy recovery notwithstanding, you watch how fast he cozies up to the nut jobs if wants to be POTUS.

What was E.W. Jackson’s first political battle you might ask?

Fighting AIDS prevention efforts.

Jackson, the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor of Virginia, has quickly established himself as a uniquely polarizing politician. But when it comes to AIDS, Jackson has backed up his words with action. As an activist in Boston in the late 1980s and early ’90s, Jackson worked tirelessly to defeat programs designed to curb HIV transmissions and save lives. In his view, the only sure-fire way out of the AIDS crisis was abstinence; everything else simply encouraged the kind of immoral behavior he was against.

In 1987, as federal and local officials were first beginning to take preventative efforts, Jackson organized a group of 30 clergymen in opposition to a proposal from Boston’s superintendent of schools to place four public health clinics in city schools. He claimed any program that even mentioned condoms was promoting promiscuity. That same year, he held a candlelight vigil outside a local ABC affiliate, WCVB, demanding that the station pull sex education public-service advertisements that endorsed the use of condoms. As the Associated Press reported at the time, “Jackson said the commercial showed a 10- to 12-year-old girl saying, ‘I just learned to have safe sex.’” (The girl was actually either 16 or 17, according to the ad’s creator.)

Trying to find if this is going to impact Amtrak (again) as I don’t know quite which tracks it uses in this portion of the region.

In a small bit of good news for Amtrak (since this is their profitable line, from Washington to Boston), this is not their track. Close, but not quite.

In potentially bad news for local commuters, I-95 may be shut down.

I don’t know. With Carpenter, we get The Thing which is honestly one of the few movie monsters/aliens that genuinely scares me.

We also get “In the Mouth of Madness” and “Escape from New York”, which would be great in a year leading up to an election.

Yeah, having looked more at maps it is not the Amtrak line (although watching the live video does show that this is a double track, not a single track). So good news for Amtrak, in that their track is not damaged. Unless I’m mistaken, Amtrak does not have any track. Maybe Acela, but that would be the only one. Amtrak uses the existing track and right-of-way of the freight rail infrastructure, which is why you’ll sometimes be forced to wait in a siding for twenty minutes while a freight train goes by. It is a simplification of the existing patchwork framework, agreed; I used the phrasing in the colloquial sense meaning the track that the Amtrak trains run on and not in the literal meaning of Amtrak owns the trains.

However, on the Northeast corridor route, I have never sat on a siding to wait for a freight train to pass.

I hope the judge nails this little shit stain to the wall.

Zimmerman Lawyer Goes On National TV To Smear Trayvon Martin With Inadmissible Evidence

The two sides appeared in court Tuesday to present a number of motions, including what evidence is admissible in court and a failed motion to delay the trial.

But before the hearing today, Zimmerman’s lawyer released images and texts that attempt to cloud Martin’s public image.

On air last week, Mike O’Mara touted the new images he said portray a more “three-dimensional picture of Trayvon.” According to Mediaite, Fox broadcast images from Martin’s phone that showed a hand holding a gun and a photograph of marijuana, which O’Mara argues is central to his client’s argument that he acted in self-defense because it shows Martin was “street-wise.”

The judge has decided that none of this information will be permitted in court. However, Zimmerman’s defense may still hope the campaign has implications for the trial and for potential jurors.

I am always torn on videos like this. On one hand, it’s definitely driven by the public’s desire (and media’s desire to feed the public) for information. I’m guilty of it too, wanting to know more and to see more.

On the other hand, the guy kind of deliberately put himself in a dangerous situation that only through blind luck didn’t turn out far worse, and the media will now reward him with interviews and publicity.

Earlier this month, a Tennessee high schooler recorded an abstinence education assembly spearheaded by two right-wing leaders — and after details emerged about the topics discussed at the public school event, medical experts confirmed that they weren’t “completely accurate.” Health officials refuted some of the material, and local politicians expressed surprise that Tennessee’s public school students have been receiving false information.

As the Tennessean reports, the conservative speakers included Joi Wasill — who founded a nonprofit organization with strong religious, Republican, and anti-abortion ties — and Beth Cox, a member of a Tennessee county school board. The two women delivered an hour-long presentation for the freshmen and sophomores at Hillsboro High School. Wasill and Cox told students that all medical textbooks confirm that life begins at conception, there’s a new STD spreading around the country that’s worse than AIDS, contracting STDs will leave women infertile, and having sexual relations with eight different partners is the equivalent of drinking a whole classroom’s spit.

Cox told the young women in the room that if they became single mothers to boys, their sons wouldn’t have the necessary male role models in their lives to teach them “hunting, fishing, playing ball, all those things that teach them how to be a man.” During the second half, after Wasill took over, she asserted that “fetus” means the same thing as “baby” and adoption should always be assumed as the best option. If a girl is pregnant, send her straight to the nurse and give her prenatal vitamins, Wasill recommended. She also warned that abortion carries the risk of internal bleeding and death.

As I predicted earlier, Zimmerman’s lawyer is going to try Trayvon Martin for ruining his client’s life by getting murdered by him…on Fox.

thinkprogress.org

A Florida judge ruled Tuesday that George Zimmerman will not able to use 17-year-old Trayvon Martin’s school records, texts, and prior marijuana use in court for the second-degree murder trial for killing the teen last year, which begins June 10.

The case became notorious for Zimmerman’s claim he was protected from trial under Florida’s ALEC-modeled Stand Your Ground law. Since then, Zimmerman has dropped his Stand Your Ground defense, but he will still argue he acted in self defense when he shot the unarmed teen on the street of a gated community. The two sides appeared in court Tuesday to present a number of motions, including what evidence is admissible in court and a failed motion to delay the trial.

But before the hearing today, Zimmerman’s lawyer released images and texts that attempt to cloud Martin’s public image.

Yeah but evolution indoctrinates kids. This helps them find the love of their savior Jesus Christ through fire, brimstone, and shaming. Reminds me of the South Park that spoofed anti-smoking after school programs. “If you don’t smoke, you can end up just like us!” *Cuts to Kyle, Stan, Kenny, and Cartman frantically puffing on cigarettes in the back of the school.* Really the scare tactics they use to tell kids not to do drugs, drink, smoke, have sex outside of marriage, etc are fucked up. I’d rather the schools be honest with kids that they’re going to be in those situations and tell them that they shouldn’t feel awful if they try that beer, that cig, that joint, or have sex with that girl. I am all for teaching responsibility. Abstinence only education doesn’t teach responsibility.

Beck: ‘Why Is it a Concentrated Effort Now to Label Me a Conspiracy Theorist?’

On his radio program today, Beck and his co-hosts discussed the media coverage that his comments generated and complained that everyone is using it to paint him as a conspiracy theorist.

Insisting that he was merely commenting on something that he thought was an interesting media story (which is blatantly false, as anyone who watched the original segment can attest,) Beck declared that the media has an agenda to always write him off as a conspiracy theorist … and it all goes back to Cass Sunstein:

It would be irresponsible not to ask if Beck is a Conspiracy Theorist.

If it weren’t for auto tune, he’d have no career. I’m so sick of record companies/tv networks(Disney, Nickelodeon) doing this to young people and pushing this no talent crap onto the public. It’s gross. While single moms like my daughter struggle to feed and clothe her kids, these fucking assholes have cars worth enough money to take care of that little family for more than a couple of years. It sucks.

He knows his client has a better than average chance of losing in court, so he’s working to turn the court of public opinion in Zimmerman’s favor by painting Martin as a “street-wise” thug.

I’m sure that if Zimmerman and his legal mouthpiece thought that they could get away with it, they’d be screaming “n**ger, n**ger, n**ger!” at the top of their lungs.

Pieces of fucking shit…

Here’s an interesting piece of information for Zimmerman’s lawyers to consider…if you kill someone in cold blood in this country - even a piece of shit street thug - you go to prison.

That’s how I feel when I read the stars of these trashy reality shows are making millions. I mean, fuck, I’m no moralist but it’s pathetic that some of us actually have to work for our livelihoods and others can just get shit faced on national TV and reel in the dough. The worst thing about Bieber is he tries to act like he’s this pious guy but all I see is a kid who made it big and thinks he’s entitled to eternal success and popularity. I Started to realize what a dickhead he was when he made his stupid comments about Anne Frank and then when he got called on them, he acted like the criticism was somehow similar to her plight. Besides his music sucks.

You should see Liveleak since the Woolwich incident. It’s now openly supporting the EDL and there have been many EDL members coming out of the woodwork. A lot of people calling for the genocide of Muslims as in “kill al Muslims.” None of it is being censored or cleaned up and as usual LL looks the other way. They have been this way for some time but it’s reaching a fevered pitch now. The UK of course is a complete mess with number anti-Muslim incidents taking place.

On a somewhat frivolous note, I have finally acquired the holy grail of model plane kits (at least for me),
1958 Lindberg Line “Strategic Strafer” (P-47 Thunderbolt), “new in sealed box.”
“Strategic Strafer” from 1958
“Strategic Strafer,” back of box.

This was an important acquisition because it is identical to the very first model kit I ever owned. The original was a present from my parents and the list price was 29 cents. It is a rare and much sought after kit today, and the current price is, er, somewhat higher. I got this one for a good price, though, as part of a lot buy on Ebay.

All of my gay friends who have kids who are old enough to express a preference have straight kids. It’s actually somewhat against the odds, it’s like fifteen straight kids.

My friends Julio and Jason, who are five foot five and five foot four, have a six foot three son who can pick them both up and run with them.

WRT to the chemicals on that train in Baltimore.

CSX Transportation Statement 5/28/13 4:30 p.m., Rosedale, Maryland, derailment

CSX is working with emergency responders at Rosedale, Maryland, on the derailment of a CSX freight train. CSX’s top priority is the safety of the community, the emergency responders and the environment, and an emergency response plan is activated to provide full support.

CSX understands that at least one person, the driver of a truck struck by the train immediately before the derailment, was seriously injured. CSX’s train crew - a locomotive engineer and conductor - was not seriously injured. CSX encourages area residents to monitor news reports and notification systems to be advised of any road closures or evacuation orders.

An investigation is under way. The train was en route from Selkirk, N.Y., to Waycross, Ga., when the derailment occurred around 2 p.m. today. It appears that about a dozen rail cars are involved, including at least one rail car containing a material classified by U.S. Department of Transportation as a hazardous material. That is sodium chlorate, an oxidizer used in a variety of industrial processes. The train was being pulled by two locomotives and had 45 rail cars, containing a variety of products from lumber to printing paper.

Possibly inspired by the Pawn Stars, I am not inclined to take advantage of people who don’t know what they have. To make up for practically stealing the Lindberg, I paid the same seller 18.50 for a Revell PBY kit that should probably have sold for a few bucks less.

Here’s an interesting piece of information for Zimmerman’s lawyers to consider…if you kill someone in cold blood in this country - even a piece of shit street thug - you go to prison.

It only takes one juror vote for Zimmerman to be found “not guilty.”

A guilty verdict takes all jurors voting guilty.
