Pat Buchanan defends Putin on Russia’s new anti-gay laws

Wingnuts • Views: 17,119

Writing for World Nut Daily (where he shares column space with the likes of Pamela Geller, Rick Santorum, and John Rocker), Pat Buchanan crawls out of his cave to defend Putin’s new anti-gay laws in Russia.

Our moral and cultural elites have put Putin on notice: Get in step with us on homosexual rights - or we may just boycott your Sochi games.

What this reveals is the distance America has traveled, morally and culturally, in a few short years, and our amnesia about who we Americans once were, and what it is we once believed.

Only yesterday, homosexual sodomy, which Thomas Jefferson said should be treated like rape, was outlawed in many states and same-sex marriage was regarded as an absurdity.

Was that America we grew up in really like Nazi Germany?

In the Catholic schools this writer attended, pornography - let alone homosexual propaganda - would get one expelled.

Was this really just like Kristallnacht?

As Father Regis Scanlon writes in Crisis Magazine, in 2005, Pope Benedict XVI reiterated Catholic doctrine that homosexuality is a “strong tendency ordered toward an intrinsic moral evil,” an “objective disorder.” That homosexual acts are unnatural and immoral remains Catholic teaching.

Thus, if we seek to build a Good Society by traditional Catholic and Christian standards, why should not homosexual propaganda be treated the same as racist or anti-Semitic propaganda?

We can no longer even agree on what is good and evil.

=====

Putin is trying to re-establish the Orthodox Church as the moral compass of the nation it had been for 1,000 years before Russia fell captive to the atheistic and pagan ideology of Marxism.

“The adoption of Christianity,” declared Putin, “became a turning point in the fate of our fatherland, made it an inseparable part of the Christian civilization and helped turn it into one of the largest world powers.”

Anyone ever heard anything like that from the Post, the Times or Barack Hussein Obama?

Pat’s so obsessed with Nazi’s and Nazism that he can’t write anything without reference to them anymore.

2 Jack Burton  Tue, Aug 13, 2013 1:35:13pm

For the love of god… Can any of these Christo-kooks stop drawing equivalency between atheism and non-Christian religions?

If it’s atheistic, it can’t also be pagan or vice versa. Atheism and theism are mutually exclusive world-views. What is so difficult to understand about this?

I’m also pretty sure no social progressive intellectual/pundit/whatever who is sane and therefore isn’t a totally cartoonish moonbat has ever compared 1776-1970 America to Nazi Germany with a straight face.

Of course he defends it, he probably had a wet dream about it last night.
And if they also decide to segregate gays from the rest of the population, he’ll probably move there. He loves him some segregation and gay hate.

Dear Paleo Pat,

Of course we can’t agree on good and evil. You’re a theocrat, and I’m committed to enlightenment values.

I stopped reading when I got that far. Any comparison with Nazi Germany is automatically invalid on its face.

Would anyone like to point out to Pat that modern Russia owes its modernity to the “atheistic and pagan ideology of Marxism”? I hate to sound even somewhat nice about Stalin and his successors, but before the rise of Marxism, Russia circa 1917 was a few large and somewhat modern cities surrounded by the 13th century.

LG learns the hard way how dangerous the word “FREE” can be

According to various reports, LG had an event in Seoul on Friday where it attached coupons for a free G2 smartphone to 100 balloons.

The idea, it appears, was that folks would calmly wait for the balloons to come down.

Instead, spectators showed up armed with spears and BB guns and other equally hare-brained schemes designed to return the balloons to earth. In all, 20 people are said to have been injured.

LG has released an official apology, which can be summarized in one word: “Oops.”

I’m worried that one or more gay athletes is going to be attacked or possibly worse at these Games. That’s pretty scary.

Yeah! This used to be a country where you could hang an uppity n*****, or pound the crap out of a f*gg*t, and then come home and hit your wife before forcing her to have sex with you, and nobody would say BOO. Hell, they’d even join in!

Does someone need to explain to Buchanan AGAIN how Nazi Germany treated gays?

Then again, isn’t Pat a resident of the Holocaust denialism camp? I know his anti-Semitism is extremely well-documented, to the point that William F. Buckley, Jr. fired him from the National Review for his extremist viewpoints.

edit: yep. Found it. Also got a reminder that he’s a fan of Anders Breivik too.

25 ManchurianDevil  Tue, Aug 13, 2013 3:36:36pm

Pat Buchanan conveniently ignores the fact that Putin’s anti-gay law is simply one more broadly-constructed platform for suppressing free speech about problematic issues. As the Russian law is written, almost any public support of LGBT folks can be construed as distributing propaganda to minors. Buchanan would probably like something similar for the U.S.

Always amazing that people want to use the same shitty heuristics, paranoia-stoking, and nonsense logic that defined the Nazis and the Soviets, yet imagine that it’s different because their cause is “better.” And when they get power, they implement the same tactics with the same cruelty, regardless of the supposed ideology they follow.

It’s the category error that makes a charnel house of the world.

Historical lies have great persistence. There are still people who think that Winston Churchill “failed” at Gallipoli; who believe that Richard III murdered his nephews, though the only person with a motive to kill them was Henry Tudor; who believe that George W. Bush lied about WMDs in Iraq.

Re-reading Ender’s Game at 34 rather than 18 was an eye-opener.

The blueprints of the stupid, paranoid, fascist positions he asserts in real life are there in how he constructs and frames the Battle School. The idea that cruelty is necessary, and that necessity requires cruel men (emphasis on men) to be in control, and that we should understand and respect that necessity rather than criticize or argue with the concept or its proponents.

Exactly. Some of these people have 400 friends and few if any filters on their accounts. And they regularly, willingly, fill out contest info for everything from free dog food to a fantastic cruise to the Mediterranean. They brag about their kid’s soccer games and where they’re played (again, with a map tagged right there on Facebook), tag where they went to dinner, where the dog park is they take Fido to, it’s endless. They “like” everything from yogurt to shoes to Target, to Payless Shoes, and they’re going to freak the hell out over the phone company having the numbers they call or some kind of “black box” mechanism in a car that also has a GPS?

Seriously, What the Everloving Fuck???

On several occasions, my wife (whose memory is sometimes short) has said, “Wait - you mean if I LIKE something, all my friends get to see it?!?”

Yes, honey. That’s what ‘LIKE’ means on FB.

LOL. I used to have one of those cars. A Dodge Dart with a pushbutton automatic transmission. A lovely beast. I drove it til it dropped. Had to fill it with both water and oil every couple of days.

My 73 Rover has a tracking system—once you pick up the trail of oil, I’m had.

“Fill the oil and check the gas, please.”

EDIT: Wait - you have, and drive, a 1973 Rover? You some kinda masochist?

There is some sort of social capital involved that I don’t totally understand. Facebook can be used for a variety of purposes. I use it to keep up on some friends and political memes. Other’s use it to build social capital.

It can turn into tangible benefits if one works it right. I think I’m way too old to participate.

Having owned a Positive Earth MGB, I remain unconvinced that English electrical systems can handle as many as 24 volts. They did such a poor job with 12.

Combined with the Lucas electrics, I’d say that he is.

Didn’t Hunter S. Thompson describe Buchanan as “a skinhead with hair?”

Pat should be living in Argentina by now.
