Breaking: Another Tea Party Fail - John Boehner Reelected as Speaker of the House

Extreme right gets spanked again
Politics • Views: 27,734

The political news of the day: the House of Representatives has reelected John Boehner as Speaker, as another Tea Party insurrection fails spectacularly.

The GOP establishment clearly still holds the reins of power in the House; unfortunately we won’t have the comedic extravaganza of a Speaker Louie Gohmert this time. But keep trying, Louie! Please!

Like most Tea Party failures, this one began at the 11th hour, was half-assed all the way, and ended not with a bang but a whimper.

Daniel Webster got more votes than Gohmert. Though I’m not entirely convinced they were voting for this Daniel Webster and not Daniel Webster.

I just checked out Chuck Johnson’s “fake photo” post, and I’m dyin’ over here! Is this for real? “Different-sized pixels?” Seriously?

Anyone who falls for this hooey is a total cretin. I may have to post about this. I took the photo into Photoshop and proved the different-sized pixels claim false in about 30 seconds. “@FlippingOffCat” grabbed two different-sized selections, very obviously. It looks like a deliberate attempt to mislead.

8 Mattand  Jan 6, 2015 11:17:31am
For all the media coverage @replouiegohmert attracts, he only got 2 other members to actually vote for him.

We got the Establishment by the asparagus now, boys!

I’m surprised you even needed to do that. There can only be one pixel size in an image file. Plus, we all know Chuck is full of shit. No further need to check.

The only “breaking news” in this one is the fact that CCJ has no fucking clue as to what pixels really are or how they work.

Didn’t need to, but now I have a graphic example of Chuck’s deception. This is what those two selections actually look like when they’re the same size:

The pixels are exactly the same size, of course, because that’s HOW PIXELS WORK.

I can’t help but imagine that, in the next few hours or days, the wingnuts will finish crying into their light beer and then declare that the fact that so many voted against Boehner “proves” that he’s not really in charge.

20 Charles Johnson  Jan 6, 2015 11:23:55am

In Chuck’s stupid image you can see that the selection on the right is obviously a smaller area, so the pixels appear larger in comparison. This is so freaking phony it’s hard to believe he thinks he can get away with it.

“…this skirmish today does nothing more than illustrate (again) that the Keystone XL pipeline has become little more than a fetish object for the political right. It needs to be built simply to anger the people who don’t want it to be built. It’s like watching people waving carved wooden totems at each other while chanting spells unintelligible to the uninitiated. The fact is that the pipeline is inherently dangerous, that the fuel that it will carry is inherently poisonous, that the company seeking to build (and to profit by) the pipeline is inherently dishonest and that, until people in Nebraska started raising holy hell out on the prairie, the political process pushing the project was inherently fixed. None of these facts change no matter how devoutly you chant the spells. Those are the perils that the politicians who have lined up behind the death-funnel are willing to risk to hang a political scalp on the wall, the country’s breadbasket be damned.”

In fact, you are probably already feeling the first twinges without recognizing that their source is Obamacare. If you are among the 150 million Americans who get health insurance through their employers, for example, chances are that the coverage your company offered for 2015 has much higher premiums than did last year’s plan.

for me personally, the premiums for my employer subsidized insurance stayed the same, but they moved to a better insurance supplier with lower deductibles and much better hospital coverage

Best advice I’ve seen for Dems:

If there really is rising populist power in the Democratic party, then here’s a chance to prove it. Screw with these people every way you can. Make the even more radical Republican state governments more furious at the “Washington establishment” than it already is. Monkeywrench the whole business and explain in simple terms to the country why you’re doing it. This has to start in the White House. The rest of the country needs to be protected from the hazardous material for which a third of it voted.

Boehner received 216 Republican votes. It’s mere coincidence that the wrath of the RWNJs is focused on Mia Love and you’re a racist if you say otherwise.

I’m stealing this! Thanks ;)

I’m ready to just plain go to Margaritaville.

I, actually have been to a Jimmy Buffet Concert, in the summer, in an open stadium.

Best smelling concert EVAH!!!

MrBWS actually got to jam with Jimmy Buffet, after closing time at a bar in the Keys, many years ago. One of hubby’s fondest memories.

After running through several ideas of how to reference Delauter without using his name (blank spaces, “He Who Shall Not be Named”) the paper took a break from its mockery to offer a serious point.

“Kirby Delauter’s ignorance of what journalism is and does is no joke, and illustrates one disturbing aspect too prevalent in conservatives’ beliefs: That the media are all-liberal stooges hell bent on pursuing some fictional leftwing agenda,” the editorial said.

The article mentioned Kirby Delauter’s name 27 times. It also contained one footnote: the words “Kirby Delauter.”

Finally, as something of an Easter egg for the careful reader, the first letter of each paragraph spelled KIRBY DELAUTER.

I’m surprised you even needed to do that. There can only be one pixel size in an image file. Plus, we all know Chuck is full of shit. No further need to check.

Since Chuck’s claim was about the photo being a composite of different fragments with different resolutions, yes, it could merit further checking, because merely responding with “there can be only one pixel size” only exposes his sloppy use of the word “pixel” (and we already know Chuck is bad at English), but does nothing to rebut or confirm his core claim. Luckily, his core claim is also false, as a quick checking shows.

Report: Explosion near Colo. Springs NAACP branch

Police are investigating reports that someone threw dynamite out of a window near the intersection of Moreno and El Paso streets Tuesday afternoon, according to KOAA.

Police say there is minor damage to the building that houses the Colorado Springs branch of the NAACP. The Joint Terrorism Task Force of the FBI arrived at the scene just after 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Another sovereign doofus strikes.

Saw him several times at Blossom Center back in the day. You’re right about the great aromas. (Before he got well-known, saw him at some much smaller, indoor venues, and it was a whole different thing.)
