Is Chuck C. Johnson Collaborating with a Criminal Revenge Porn Extortionist?

Signs point to “Totes.”

So do any o’ y’all remember super gross chin-beard aficionado Craig Brittain?

He’s touching your swimsuit area with his eyes.

Brittain ran the revenge porn site “Is Anybody Down” until he was forced to shutter it by the Federal Trade Commission for essentially being a criminal extortion scheme:

At the end of January, the Federal Trade Commission said it had reached a settlement with Craig Brittain, who owns the isanybodydown.com website, which stopped spreading revenge porn images in April 2013. The FTC alleged that “he used deception to acquire and post intimate images of women”, which would then be posted on the site, often alongside their address, phone number and Facebook profile. Again, he’d ask for hundreds of dollars from victims demanding photos of them were removed, according to the regulator. Brittain would also offer a reward of at least $100 in exchange for pictures and supplementary information, the complaint claimed. His punishment was light: a ban from posting images of people nude without their consent and an agreement to delete all the awful material he was alleged to have published.

Part of Brittain’s deception involved the creation of another ostensibly unconnected, pretend third party website actually created by Craig. On this site he advertised the services of a fictitious lawyer who would work with people to have their information removed from Is Anybody Down. From Jezebel:

Now, there’s “Is Anybody Down?” (creative!), a copycat site with a twist: click “Get me off this site!” and you’ll reach a “lawyer” (he’s now replaced the word “lawyer” with “hammer” — more on that later) who’ll remove those naked photos that, of course, you probably never consented to posting on the internet in the first place, for $250. Here’s the ad:

Advertisement Disclaimer: This is a paid advertisement by David Blade | Attorney-at-Law

Hello! I’m the Takedown Lawyer and so far, I’ve had 42 clients come to me to have their pictures and information removed from Is Anybody Down, all of whom were a success! I have people’s pictures and information taken down from sites like these all the time; including over 38 removals from the original “Is Anyone Up” over the past 2 years.

Please check out my website, takedownlawyer.com for more info, or you can contact me directly at davidblade@takedownlawyer.com.

Don’t delay! Your safety and security might depend on it!

Edit: Updated September 21st.

I have had 42 clients removed this website at this point. The administrator of this website has complied with me on 100% of cases so far.

My work is pro bono, and at a reduced filing fee, which is comparatively inexpensive.

If you see that content is removed from this website in the future - It means that I was hired.

I work as a Public Defender for the State of New York. I’m a real attorney - not an ‘internet lawyer’.

Except there was one little problem, the lawyer David Blade didn’t exist:

“Aww, what a thoughtful, helpful guy!” is not what lawyer Marc Randazza thought when he came across “Is Anybody Down?” He figured something fishy was up, so looked into it: turns out that there’s no David Blade licensed as a layer in New York, and that the same dude — Craig Brittain — owns isanyonedown.com and takedownlawyer.com. Shocker: save-the-ladies superhero “David Blade” is in cahoots with the website he claims to be fighting against. Or he doesn’t exist at all. This is like Nabokov’s Pale Fire, except unpoetic and incredibly disgusting.

And that’s why the FTC shut Brittain down, managing to use the prospect of an actual criminal prosecution to get him to sign a multi part consent decree, some elements of which have an enforcement period of 20 years. Exactly how he managed to stay out of prison is still kind of a mystery considering the egregious nature of his extortion operation, However one can rather plausibly speculate on the likelihood that Craig ratted out all of his associates and file uploaders to get such a sweet deal.

Anyway Brittain is a user of the Twitter machine, originally under the handle @forcedisbased. He still uses the same account, but changed the handle to @auditthemedia. The fact that he changed the handle without shutting down the original account means that his old tweets are still searchable under either name. Last year it looked like our old friend and alleged (it’s important to type alleged here to avoid charges of super-libel) floor-pooper Chuck C Johnson was getting rather chummy with Mr. Brittain, encouraging Craig to call him on the telephone box for what one can only assume were lengthy discussions about sluts and the innate characteristics of certain minorities.

That conversation originated with Brittain forwarding Chuck the Facebook page of one of the Ferguson eyewitnesses. It was back in December and before Brittain’s interesting stay out of jail agreement with the FTC.

I’d forgotten about the relationship between Chuck and Brittain until the last couple of days when Chuck let slip his own fascination with extortion.

Along with other recent comments that generated reasonable speculation that Chuck may well be attempting to build a better web enabled blackmail engine. Then today he came right out with a defense of revenge porn.

So, and I do thank those of you who’ve stayed with me this far, that got me thinking. Exactly how close are Chuck’s ties to disgraced bottom feeding, lawyer impersonating extortionist Craig Brittain? When was the last time they were in contact?

Yesterday they apparently arranged another phone conversation over the Twitter tubes. And like before, one can reasonably make topical speculation as to the subject matter.

The question here is, exactly how close to violating his consent decree with the FTC is Brittain getting with his collaboration with CCJ? Here is the text of the agreement between Brittain and the FTC for any lawyers specializing in the affairs of super creepy gross people to advise on. I’ve only browsed it so far but managed to glean that it is to remain in effect for 20 years.

Finally I’ll leave you with this:

I, for one, am rooting for jail time.

They deserve each other. I don’t think that Brittain wants much more than a mule and that’s what he’ll get. It’s a good guess that Brittain threw his associates to the wolves in his last go round so with luck we’ll be hearing how The Man was so scared of CCJ that he threw him in prison.

B. all representations about Respondent’s collection, use, disclosure, or sharing of personal information in connection with marketing, promoting, or offering for sale any good or service that involves the collecting or posting of personal information on a website or online service, including but not limited to the terms of use, frequently-asked questions, and privacy policies of such website or online service, for a period of five (5) years from the date of preparation or dissemination, whichever is later;

VI.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that Respondent, for a period of ten (10) years after the date of issuance of this order, shall notify the Commission of the discontinuance of his current business or employment, or of his affiliation with any new business or employment. The notice shall include Respondent’s new business address and telephone number and a description of the nature of the business or employment and his duties and responsibilities. Unless otherwise directed by a representative of the Commission in writing, all notices required by this Part shall be emailed to debrief@ftc.gov or sent by overnight courier (not the U.S. Postal Service) to the Associate Director of Enforcement, Bureau of Consumer Protection, Federal Trade Commission, 600 Pennsylvania Avenue N.W., Washington, D.C. 20580. The subject line must begin: In the Matter of Craig Brittain, FTC File No. ________.

Even without Brittain’s involvment there would already enough evidence and red flags in CCJ’s other statements to prompt the FTC to keep a close eye on whatever nascent extortion brokerage scheme Chuck would have everyone believe he is cooking up.

However leaving a data trail on Twitter pointing to personal conversations and possible/probable consultancy with Brittain raises legitimate concerns about what Brittain’s involvement might be in either of Chuck’s current registered companies in California - Got News, LLC and CCJ Strategies, LLC - or in any new or venture he may be planning.

In his radio interview with Joyce Kaufman about the Allen West thing, UpChuck was all righteous about the women West allegedly harassed as “someone’s daughter or sister.” This, coming from a guy who outs rape victims and routinely accuses them of making shit up.

And, he brags about being a Catholic convert.

I’d sure like a few words with his priest.

Kansas welfare recipients will be unable to get more than $25 per day in benefits under a new law sent this week to Republican Gov. Sam Brownback’s desk by the state legislature.

*snip*

Under the new rule, a three-person family receiving the maximum benefit would have to go to the ATM more than a dozen times to get the full benefit, which would be whittled away by an 85 cent fee for each withdrawal after the first one. And the local cruise liner ATM will no longer be an option.

Missouri is right in line with Kansas on poor-shaming anyone with a need for an EBT card.

No steak or fish, you poors—

The bill being proposed would ban the purchase with food stamps of “cookies, chips, energy drinks, soft drinks, seafood or steak.”
“The intention of the bill is to get the food stamp program back to it’s original intent, which is nutrition assistance,” said Rick Brattin, the representative who is sponsoring the proposed legislation.

It must be all those mysterious crab legs and filet mignon buyers the Republicans are always seeing at their grocery stores that prompted it. Ah, yes:

“I have seen people purchasing filet mignons and crab legs with their EBT cards,” he said. “When I can’t afford it on my pay, I don’t want people on the taxpayer’s dime to afford those kinds of foods either.”

dailykos.com

Poor little Ricky Brattin—so sad that he can’t afford surf and turf—maybe he should start a gofundme page to help out.

He’s also the braintrust who wants women to get permission for their impregnators before having an abortion.

he would make an exception for victims of rape, but women would have to prove that a rape had actually occurred.

“So you couldn’t just go and say, ‘Oh yeah, I was raped,’ and get an abortion,” he said. “It has to be a legitimate rape.”

kansascity.com

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Republicans don’t simply have differences of opinion about policy—they are flat out mean, spiteful, miserable people.

Just jumping in here after reading g’d’frank’s great little story.

Yesterday I made a comment about wishing Chuck C. some behind-bars-time in a jail and some said to have it happen would involve someone getting hurt.

So, I then made this comment…

littlegreenfootballs.com

Yeah, I thought about that. But sometimes people can’t be stopped until they meet the ground after taking the big jump. Chucky seems to be wanting to take such a leap.

Maybe he gets involved in a scam set up by some police agency and goes down falling for the set up, thus not getting ordinary folks involved.

Now I am wondering about something right in line with my comment and some of g’d’frank’s digging.

Pardon me if comments have already been made.

Could one of the reasons Craig Brittain has creative sentencing be he is a tech narc?

I don’t want to make my point too clearly. You never know if a new journalist is around!

Since it is a large cut of beef you can do a lot with it. The tip is great in sauces and poured of a bed of noodles. The middle section can be used for steaks and/or the famous Chateau Briand. And finally the “head” end can make a great roast beef. At least that is what my late mom did with it.

re: #125 The Week Of No Pie

My daughter lives only a few blocks from the Old City so maybe I caught a Palestinian cell tower while we were driving home.

Cell phones usually talk to more than one tower at a time. This is necessary to ensure a smooth transition from one tower to the next as the phone moves. The underlying equipment compares the simultaneous signals from multiple cell tower faces/cell towers and selects the highest quality signal to send into the network. The phone will naturally home on the strongest signal it’s receiving from the towers.

It’s possible for example, that the signal from the closest towers was being blocked by buildings or terrain and the phone got the best signal from a more remote tower and so the remote tower became the home for a short time.

Indeed, by the time he had fully explained the critical theory of sources in the Pentateuch, I could hardly believe how reasonable and sensible the theory seemed. So I turned to the next page of Kitchen’s notes with great anticipation, looking forward to a robust and convincing rebuttal of the critical deception. Then came the moment of disappointment.
“Having already shown me the earth from an orbiting spaceship, Kitchen then proceeded to argue that the earth was flat. For the first time it began to dawn on me that the critical arguments regarding the Pentateuch were far better, and carried much more explanatory power, than the flimsy broom that Kitchen was using to sweep them away. At that moment I began to doubt that evangelical scholars were really giving me the whole story when it came to the Bible and biblical scholarship” (pp. 11-12).

I am amazed at the level of ignorance out there. There are repeating discussions on car forums about using nitrogen to fill your tires, vs compressed air. You hear all sorts of bullshit because people don’t understand the ideal gas law, and partial pressures, and relative humidity.

Oh, and some car dealers are charging phenomenal amounts for nitrogen fills with new cars, too. These threads go to 50 or more responses before somebody steps in and explains about PV = nRT and all that.

Watching Chuck go outside in the full sun last episode was one of the tensest things I’ve seen on TV. Michael McKean was great.

I was so involved in his struggle that I didn’t think through what the implication of him going for the phone would be. The bit between Odenkirk and McKean was devastating. So, so good.

To Atheists who want their own feast day: here’s how you do it. What are the present feast days and public celebrations? Proclaim next Easter the Spring Maiden Festival, introduce new dances at the atheist hall, give presents on your new holday, get football to play Atheist Bowls, poke around pagan rituals and copy the ones you think might catch on, then spend the next few hundred years incorporating traditions like the Sparing of the Paschal Lamb, and then boom, Easter is a plain old church thing, and they’re having a No God Day parade down 5th Avenue. That’s how we did it. Oh, and get the Roman Legions on your side.

Reminder: 60 years ago, similar legislation would have kept Bobby Jindal and his family away from the lunch counters in Louisiana:

“This state shall not take any adverse action against a person, wholly or partially, on the basis that such person acts in accordance with a religious belief or moral conviction about the institution of marriage,” the legislation reads. It would apply to private employers as well, regardless of religious affiliation, and it could allow businesses to deny certain state benefits to members of same-sex marriages if the employer objects to the marriage.

This recent string of “religious freedom” laws is not a coincidence. The bigots are running scared. They know they’ve lost the culture wars, so they want a new Jim Crow in place before SCOTUS legalizes gay marriage across the board.

“We’re looking at Obamacare right now. Once we start with those benefits in January, how are we going to get people off of those? It’s exponentially harder to remove people once they’ve already been on those programs…we rely on government for absolutely everything. And in the years since I was a small girl up until now into my adulthood with children of my own, we have lost a reliance on not only our own families, but so much of what our churches and private organizations used to do. They used to have wonderful food pantries. They used to provide clothing for those that really needed it. But we have gotten away from that. Now we’re at a point where the government will just give away anything.”

I remember that tweet, the story was falling apart, Chuck had nothing to do with it. He’s a pathological liar.

“…As reported by Salon, it turns out that daddy’s construction company (and here I thought he was but a poor, struggling farmer) was awarded some $215,665 in building contracts from the Montgomery County during the years 2009 and 2010.

There is certainly nothing inappropriate in a builder winning a few government contracts—unless it turns out that the builder’s daughter Joni, who would go on to become a United States Senator, happens to be the powerful county auditor for that very same Montgomery County.

According to Iowa law, that is a “no-no.”

Meanwhile: Netanyahu tells U.S. TV networks he’s ‘trying to kill a bad Iran deal’

Yeah, the clues to this were in the NYT story today. Page 1, middle. About how after Jeb Bush’s good ol’ buddy Baker popped off on how Netanyahu should STFU on US foreign policy, billionaire creepazoid and Jabba the Hutt impersonator Shelly Adelson called up and raged.

It’s all about getting their mitts on that sweet, sweet $30 billion in cash prize to the person who pledges most convincingly to nuke Iran and send American kids to die in the Big Sandbox. The article even contained telling phrases pretty much calling out Adelson as a one-issue guy - he cares only about Israel and could give two shits about the USA. He’ll spend every last nickel (and push GOP politicians into war pledges they’d rather not make) in order to support his warped version of what constitutes security for Israel.

It seems to escape Adelson that his & Netanyahu’s all-or-nothing stance is the greatest threat to Israel, from a long-term perspective.

If you see something too good to be true, go against your bias, assume it’s not until proven otherwise.

If you see a twitter or an FB quote, assume it’s fake until proven otherwise.

Sometimes they will turn out to be true, but mostly not.

Fake.

Cotton proposes at the very least a $77 billion increase and recommends actually $200 billion over current defense spending. So between a 14 and 37 percent boost. Totally nuts but far short of tripling current numbers. Nothing in the speech about prisons.

I tend to only go with the quotes that can be seen/heard coming from their mouths. If there is video or good verifiable audio, I’ll take it.

And that usually is fine as many of the people that get the fake quotes attributed to them don’t really need it. They’ve been quoted with plenty of the crazy.

I think what happens, some people become such a joke, get into the mainstream, and then they get mocked. That is where people run with the super crazed added quotes. Part of the internet experience too. Stuff gets around faster than the context can be understood.

True. It’s depressing to think that the same kind of clowns make up shit on the left.

I do think the Right seems to do more ‘quoting famous person’ posts, however.

That certainly has happened. There was one meme with a quote - I think ascribed to Ted Cruz - and altho it was being distributed as a real one, it originated in an FB group that was clearly mocking that person. I think this was brought up here 1-2 weeks ago.

Yes. Oh, my, yes.

As Twain famously may not have actually said, ” A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes.”, and that was BEFORE the internet.

If you are going to start with the belief that it’s true, then no, “I can’t find it on google” will not work. If you start by believing it’s false, then finding evidence would make it true.

That said, I see her twitter is full of various memes, so whether this particular lesson will be learned remains to be seen. :)
