In Today’s Episode of “Pandering to Idiots,” Donald Trump Vows to Rename Denali Back to Mt. McKinley

Super classy and so very smart
Politics • Views: 62,509

What can anyone say about pandering this naked? Donald Trump consistently out-panders the most pander-prone Republicans. That’s why he’s leading the pander-pack.

By the way, in Alaska, even Republicans are in favor of changing the name back to Denali; they’ve been trying to make this happen for more than 40 years, in fact.

Trump will learn, eventually, that there is no satisfying these people. If not now, then after the election, when he is either pilloried for losing because he “isn’t conservative enough”, or pilloried for not accomplishing enough during his entirely-too-long-for-my-tastes presidency.

There’s pathetic, and then there’s Trump, who seems to be carving out his own personal subcategory for the definition…

Trump sells a lot of stuff to people who pay more for it because it has his name on it. He knows dumb.

Trump is simply giving voice to the GOP’s unbridled id, who thinks that renaming the mountain back to “Mt. McKinley” is more important than the wishes of the people of Alaska.

Whether he intends to or not, Trump is doing a fine job of showing us just how post-racial we are in this country. I wonder, though, how many Americans even give a shit that their neighbors aren’t far removed from the citizens of Rock Ridge.

I can hardly wait for Palin’s tasty word salad on this issue, since I understand she actually supported changing the name (but probably not by Obummer’s unconstitutional tyrannical decree.)/

8
Lidane  Aug 31, 2015 • 6:01:46pm

It was Denali for centuries. Even the Russians called it Denali, for fuck’s sake.

It was forcibly renamed in 1897 when McKinley was running for POTUS by a gold prospector for entirely political reasons. It would be like Bill Gates climbing the tallest mountain in Washington and then naming it after Hillary Clinton to get political favors for Microsoft.

Ohio can be insulted all they want. McKinley never went to Alaska. Never climbed a mountain. His only accomplishment as POTUS was getting shot. If they like him so damn much, Ohio can name something after him. Alaska isn’t obligated to give their highest mountain a name of someone who had no connection to the state at all.

Palin would enthusiastically support changing the name of that mountain to Mount Coca Cola if they sufficiently greased her palm.

How to Name a Mountain After Ronald Reagan

MOLLY BALL FEB 8, 2013

If this activist gets his way, there will be a Mount Reagan in Nevada, possibly as soon as next year. But it hasn’t been easy.

theatlantic.com

The initiative is part of the Ronald Reagan Legacy Project, a push to memorialize the former president as widely as possible that’s backed by anti-tax crusader Grover Norquist, who is an old friend of Muth’s. The sometimes-controversial effort has gotten more than 3,000 landmarks named for the Gipper, including highways, buildings, and schools — but never a mountain. While 12 other presidents have U.S. mountains named for them, and FDR has a peak in Canada, getting approval for Mount Reagan has proved unexpectedly difficult.

That is a good article

(from downstairs)

13
Targetpractice  Aug 31, 2015 • 6:04:35pm

Like most wingnut moments in the last six years, this is not about any “conservative” principle, it is simply about opposing anything that the President does because they don’t like him. If he’d said he’d allow Congress to make a decision and leave the mountain named “Mt. McKinley” until then, they’d scream he was willfully ignoring the will of the people of Alaska just to win favor with Ohio voters in time for 2016.

Gov. Palin’s farewell address mentions Denali, not McKinley.

Her TV show? Calls it Denali, not McKinley, when she’s attempting to climb a portion (though this seems more a reference to the national park than the Mountain).

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

Democracy is the art and science of running the circus from the monkey cage.

Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.

No one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public.

I just realized what this whole “Denali - McKinley” thing reminds me of. I remember when Obama sent about 100 troops or so to Africa to help provide training and support for the hunt for Kony and The Lord’s Resistance Army.

Limbaugh in particular jumped on that, how Obama was targeting Christians. A lot of the RWNJs made Pavlov proud as they reflexively attacked Obama for his actions. After they figured out just who Kony and the LRA was, they did the “We never said that… nope, you’ve got us confused with someone else”.

FWIW, when I spent a year in Alaska about 20+ years ago, we all called it Denali.

If you’re a cashier at Walmart or an insurance salesman in Tuskegee, your diaper fetish is nobody’s business but your own. If you’re a GOP Senator who publicly promotes himself as an advocate of family values and works to destroy public education, your diaper fetish is VERY relevant. And not in a good way.

His conclusion will be that McKinley’s assassination led directly to Obama winning Ohio in the 2012 election.

Been dealing with a “Obama has declared war on the Police” type. Did a quick check. The number of officers killed in Line Of Duty is at record low levels. The highest number killed during Obama’s years in office (171 in 2011) is lower than the lowest number during St. Ronnies reign (176 in 1985). For the last two years, the count is at the lowest level since 1959. It was 107 in 2013 and 117 in 2014.

Since these numbers come from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Foundation website, I suspect that even a RWNJ would have to admit that they are probably pretty accurate. nleomf.org

A few years later, the name didn’t look so good, so the highest point was renamed Wheeler Peak, with a lower point retaining the Jeff Davis name. Both are now in Great Basin National Park.

Second of all, the election is not for 14 months. I seriously doubt this is going to mean anything then. The one and only reason for Trump (or Boehner or anyone else) to take a stand on this is to appeal to fucking idiots.

Okay, fine, so we’re supposed to pretend to take Donald Trump seriously and continue to indulge this fantasy so narcissistic that Kanye West has called him to take that shit down a notch…

Trump cites the conservative news port-a-potty, Breitbart, which means either he’s paying good money in exchange for blow jobs and clicks or he just doesn’t give a shit what his sources are. ‘Cause, see, for example, Trump offers the kind of proposal makes stupid people smile stupidly because they think it’s common sense…

For “high crime neighborhoods,” he sends us not to crime statistics or even a report of criminality. No, we get to click over to an article that is a summary of a caller to Laura Ingraham’s radio ear bleeder…

This isn’t an indictment of Breitbart. If you go to the circus, expect to see heaps of elephant dung. But it is an indictment of Trump, who doesn’t give a fuck who his “experts” are. rudepundit.blogspot.com

And our “news” media suck it up like Hoovers.
