At Kim Davis’s Persecution Party, Huckabee’s Aide Physically Blocked Ted Cruz From Reaching Reporters

When Republicans fight
Politics • Views: 51,619

Today’s absurd Christian persecution party in Grayson, Kentucky, was Mike Huckabee’s turn to shine, and he wasn’t about to let Ted Cruz steal his thunder.

The rally Tuesday had been scheduled before it was known whether Ms. Davis would be released. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, also a Republican presidential contender, made an appearance, but it was Mr. Huckabee, a former Baptist pastor, who grabbed the political spotlight.

When Senator Cruz exited the jail a throng of journalists beckoned him toward their microphones, but an aide to Mr. Huckabee blocked the path of Mr. Cruz, who appeared incredulous.

Moments later, Mr. Huckabee appeared, joined by Ms. Davis. He stuck close to her side as she approached the reporters, and again when she took the stage, and cast her fight as a choice of tyranny or religious freedom.

“If you have to put someone in jail, let me go.” Mr. Huckabee said to a cheering crowd.

Huckabee wants some of that Kim Davis martyr cred for himself.

It would be funny if it wasn’t utterly fucking ridiculous. Cruz and Huckabee are acting like a couple of whambulance chasers just looking to fund raise of this shit, hell they ARE just a couple of whambulance chasers.

Sort of OT: In case you were wondering, Frankie Sullivan of Survivor is none too happy about the use of ‘Eye of the Tiger’ at the orgy o’persecution:

NO! We did not grant Kim Davis any rights to use “My Tune -The Eye Of The Tiger.” I would not grant her the rights to use Charmin!
C’mom Mike, you are not The Donald but you can do better than that -

Further reaction here, most of it hilarious.

Casey County Clerk Casey Davis trying to get some of those martyr cookies:

Casey County Clerk Casey Davis, who recently finished riding a bike more than 400 miles across the state of Kentucky in solidarity with Kim Davis, said he was relieved she was being released. He is not related to her.

“It’s been a total injustice for her being there to begin with,” he said.

But he said he is still not issuing any marriage licenses, and suspects the conflict could come to his county next. He said only one same-sex couple has inquired about a marriage license in his county and was told there were no licenses being issued, and that’s the last Davis heard from them.

He said he, too, would be willing to go to jail.

For the women, how to conceal a gun:

Woman with pistol in vagina charged with unlawful carry

While Castaneda was being transported to jail, she told an officer she had concealed a handgun in her vagina. Officers immediately stopped and a female officer searched the suspect, finding a loaded Smith and Wesson .22-caliber pistol with a round chambered in her vagina.

The weapon was taken into evidence and Castaneda was also charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon.

Which proves, in a perfect encapsulation, that Republican’s have no real problem with government, unions, judicial rulings, or anything else…it’s only when it’s the wrong people in office (or unions), or the wrong judgements are handed down that they have an issue.

Shorter: Republican’s are full. of. shit.

Scale is real difficult in the picture. The flap fairings are about right for a 767, and Airbus flap fairings tend to be a lot larger (God knows I worked on enough of the damned things). The best way to tell the apart is the aft fuselage or empinage where the A300 has a very sharp upcant along the bottom of the plane while the 767 comes more evenly to a point in the rear.

Van Bilderbeek’s e-mail to the actors begins with a call for “Male/Female Hispanic, [Latinos], Asians, All ages (Kids 4 years to Adults 80 years).”

“Our client hired us to shoot a smear video against Donald Trump. This is acting, so it doesn’t matter about political affiliations. This is a Web commercial, not for broadcast,” he wrote. “This will be [filmed] in a studio on white background, multiple focal lengths with the people saying multiple lines in Fort Lauderdale.”

The video shoot is the latest move by Trump opponents to target the reality-show star and billionaire mogul. In recent weeks, the Club for Growth, a top conservative group, has started reaching out to Republican donors seeking contributions for a multi-million dollar ad campaign aimed at taking down Trump.

But Doug Sachtleben, a spokesman for the Club, said Tuesday that the organization was not involved with Wednesday’s session. “We haven’t taken anything off the table, but we’re not part of this video,” he said in an interview. “We’re as curious as you about who is behind it.”

But they’re big doohickies…each one has more thrustamacallit than all four doohickies on a 747.

Not engines. Doohickies. Some kind of aerodynamic thingamajigs. A300 has 4; 777 has 2.

I had a friend working on top of the number one engine on a 777. I heard him remark “That is one big fucking spider”.

A moment later, he jumped back onto the wing and damned near fell off (he was on a safety rig. You have to be when working on top of the wings or engines)

The spider was pissed off and tried to come at him while he was working. :D

I think Trump would pander to the theocrats in a second, if he thought it would work for him. Everything about his campaign can be explained as Trump saying what he thinks some people want to hear to people that want to believe what they hear from him.

This strategy doesn’t work as well with evangelicals as with other parts of the GOP base because evangelicals aren’t usually going to fall for pandering by a non-evangelical.

There are some, maybe a few, say at the Columbia Journalism Review, who have a ideal view of what journalism ought to be.

But, that is a field which I think is not really as relevant to what many people consume as far as “news”. So much of what comes across our eyes (or ears) is much closer to the carney barkers of old than to a CJR exalted work of journalism.

I write that as a preface to a really bad article in one of Asia’s most widely read English-language outlets:

Many global warming studies may be wrong as carbon dating found to be highly unreliable for organic matter over 30,000 years old

The support structure is what hurt me my first attempt at college. I was a first generation student, went really far away from home, and had no money to spend (family wasn’t exactly rich). I made it through two years because of that. So, when I got stressed, I didn’t know how to deal with it.

That was one of the things that excited me about the college my oldest son is going to. They have a support structure for the students that started the day they moved in. The teacher of one of their classes the first semester is their adviser, so they essentially had a home room at college.

The aggressive stupidity of young earth creationism has served as a model for all other conservative/GOP policy ‘arguments’.

Conservative apologetics are chock full of quote mining and fallacious appeals to authority, both of which the creationists have practiced for decades. Another popular GOP tool is the Gish gallop, which is named after a creationist, and is a debate ‘technique’ based on spewing lies at a rate greater than they can be refuted. A recent high profile example of this was the first Romney-Obama debate.

The way they have a stage set up, a loudspeaker system blaring out the Eye of the Tiger song, the rubes.

It just seems so … tawdry.

Just today on twitter I saw a wingnut ‘shop of HIllary with some alien/vampire teeth. Ugh.

Survivor may sue Kim Davis.

I really don’t like the song much, but I say they should go for it.

I doubt they would sue Kim Davis as she was not the organizer of the event. They could try to sue the Mike Huckabee Campaign, but I bet the campaign has a general use license for playing music at campaign stops. They could probably sue to get him to stop using it, but it isn’t like this was his campaign theme and he probably wouldn’t be using it again anyhow.

In case no-one has mentioned it yet, the President now has 42 votes in the Senate for the Iran deal, guaranteeing a resolution of disapproval won’t even get to his desk to veto. Great victory for diplomacy; this will make it much more difficult for any future GOP President to justify a war with Iran.

SNL reran an episode this weekend in which the opening skit was Hillary’s campaign launch video and they did something similar. It was actually a rare funny moment for the show.

It was insane. My mouth was hanging open. Good ole CNN having a mid day revival on TV for us.

Naah, what GOP President (among the current clown car lot) would even BOTHER with “justification” - as opposed to just bombing first, and making excuses afterwards?

I noticed the loathsome Benham brothers were there to whine as well.

What would be the correct term for such a gathering of cretinous freaks?

A flock (or frenzy) of fundies?
A gaggle of god-botherers?
A litter of lunatics?
A kindle of kooks?
A murder of morons?
An army of assholes?

A crusade of cretins.
