The Federalist Blames Daleiden Indictment on Prosecutor Who Had No Connection to Grand Jury

The right wing media still seem to be in shock about the indictments handed down today in Texas against Center for Medical Progress leader David Daleiden. As I write this, there isn’t a word about the news at the premier crazy right wing site, Breitbart “News.”

But The Federalist, a second-string wingnut player, wasted no time getting out some misleading attack points, implying that the fix was in with a stealthy Planned Parenthood supporter overseeing the grand jury.

Lauren Reeder, one of the prosecutors in the Harris County district attorney’s office, revealed last August that she was a member of the board of directors for the Planned Parenthood affiliate that was targeted by Daleiden.

Reeder’s LinkedIn page indicates that she has been a Planned Parenthood board member since 2013 and a fundraiser for the abortion provider since 2009.

The interesting part of this post is what The Federalist’s editors (the post is uncredited) obviously deliberately omitted: prosecutor Lauren Reeder had absolutely nothing to do with this case, and in fact she disclosed her association with Planned Parenthood herself, according to the article at The Blaze that The Federalist cited themselves: Prosecutor Working in DA’s Office That’s Investigating Planned Parenthood Also Serves on Abortion Provider’s Board of Directors | TheBlaze.com.

A prosecutor in the Harris County District Attorney’s office that is investigating the Houston-area Planned Parenthood has disclosed that she sits on the board of directors for the organization.

District Attorney Devon Anderson said in a statement that her employee, Lauren Reeder, made the disclosure “in order to be transparent” and contends that her office will still be able to conduct the investigation in an “unbiased, fact-driven” manner.

“After making my announcement, an assistant district attorney came forward and disclosed that she is on the board of directors of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast. She made the disclosure in order to be transparent,” Anderson said in a statement provided to TheBlaze. “For this same reason, I am revealing her relationship to the public. With that said, let me assure you that I am confident that despite this revelation, this office can and will conduct an unbiased, fact-driven investigation of these allegations.”

In order to avoid any appearance of impropriety, I have taken steps to ensure that she will not be involved in any manner in this investigation,” Anderson said. “If at any time in the future, reliable and credible information is brought to my attention that would question our ability to continue to perform a fair, thorough and independent investigation of this matter due to her board membership, I will revisit the issue of seeking the appointment of an independent prosecutor and act accordingly.”

That’s right — Glenn Beck’s fake news site The Blaze is actually more honest than The Federalist on this. Now that’s weird.

But the reason they rushed to get this deceptive talking point out there is also obvious: they know it will now spread throughout the right wing media and be repeated endlessly, whether it’s true or not, whether it’s relevant or not. Right wing media doesn’t exist to report news, or tell the truth — it exists to provide propaganda for right wing politicians.
