The Federalist Blames Daleiden Indictment on Prosecutor Who Had No Connection to Grand Jury

Spreading fake news daily
Wingnuts • Views: 48,258

The right wing media still seem to be in shock about the indictments handed down today in Texas against Center for Medical Progress leader David Daleiden. As I write this, there isn’t a word about the news at the premier crazy right wing site, Breitbart “News.”

But The Federalist, a second-string wingnut player, wasted no time getting out some misleading attack points, implying that the fix was in with a stealthy Planned Parenthood supporter overseeing the grand jury.

Lauren Reeder, one of the prosecutors in the Harris County district attorney’s office, revealed last August that she was a member of the board of directors for the Planned Parenthood affiliate that was targeted by Daleiden.

Reeder’s LinkedIn page indicates that she has been a Planned Parenthood board member since 2013 and a fundraiser for the abortion provider since 2009.

The interesting part of this post is what The Federalist’s editors (the post is uncredited) obviously deliberately omitted: prosecutor Lauren Reeder had absolutely nothing to do with this case, and in fact she disclosed her association with Planned Parenthood herself, according to the article at The Blaze that The Federalist cited themselves: Prosecutor Working in DA’s Office That’s Investigating Planned Parenthood Also Serves on Abortion Provider’s Board of Directors | TheBlaze.com.

A prosecutor in the Harris County District Attorney’s office that is investigating the Houston-area Planned Parenthood has disclosed that she sits on the board of directors for the organization.

District Attorney Devon Anderson said in a statement that her employee, Lauren Reeder, made the disclosure “in order to be transparent” and contends that her office will still be able to conduct the investigation in an “unbiased, fact-driven” manner.

“After making my announcement, an assistant district attorney came forward and disclosed that she is on the board of directors of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast. She made the disclosure in order to be transparent,” Anderson said in a statement provided to TheBlaze. “For this same reason, I am revealing her relationship to the public. With that said, let me assure you that I am confident that despite this revelation, this office can and will conduct an unbiased, fact-driven investigation of these allegations.”

In order to avoid any appearance of impropriety, I have taken steps to ensure that she will not be involved in any manner in this investigation,” Anderson said. “If at any time in the future, reliable and credible information is brought to my attention that would question our ability to continue to perform a fair, thorough and independent investigation of this matter due to her board membership, I will revisit the issue of seeking the appointment of an independent prosecutor and act accordingly.”

That’s right — Glenn Beck’s fake news site The Blaze is actually more honest than The Federalist on this. Now that’s weird.

But the reason they rushed to get this deceptive talking point out there is also obvious: they know it will now spread throughout the right wing media and be repeated endlessly, whether it’s true or not, whether it’s relevant or not. Right wing media doesn’t exist to report news, or tell the truth — it exists to provide propaganda for right wing politicians.

The GOP/right wing anti-choice/forced birth extremists have this as their only fallback position, and it’s not even much of a fallback. So, they’ll go with obfuscation instead.

That shouldn’t work either. These people need to be exposed for the liars and thugs they are.

So they hope that lying/obfuscating will cover up the fact that the DA’s office acted properly and within the bounds of the law to make sure justice was done. They investigated the claims against PP and found no evidence of wrongdoing. They did, however, find that CMP and its extremist leaders did commit crimes.

Targetpractice  Jan 25, 2016 • 6:00:46pm

And tomorrow’s headlines in the wingnut press will be about this ADA, with suggestions that it doesn’t matter if she was kept totally separate, her very presence in the DA’s office throws the entire case into doubt. That if she so much as spoke with the DA in an informal manner about the investigation, then the entire case is tainted and the DA should avoid “embarrassment” or worse by just dropping the charges or letting Daleiden off with a slap on the wrist.

Body Camera recording of Oregon State Police Trooper speaking with subject at Hines Market.

Release from Harney County DA:

The following release has been authorized by the Harney County District Attorney’s Office:
On January 25, 2016 at about 11:45AM, the Harney County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an armed adult male at the Hines Market who made comments he wanted to join the militia at the refuge and help with killing federal agents.

Law enforcement personnel responded and made contact with the male, identified as Joseph A STETSON, age 54, of Woodburn. During the contact, it appeared STETSON was armed with a handgun (it turned out to be a pellet gun in a belt holster). STETSON told troopers he was intending on being the personal guard for the Bundys.

It was determined through the contact that STETSON was believed to be impaired and was arrested by troopers for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (alcohol). During the arrest, he repeatedly made death threats towards the officers and resisted arrest prior to being placed into a patrol vehicle. After being placed in the patrol vehicle, STETSON kicked the vehicle door, damaging it.

STETSON was lodged at the Harney County Jail for DUII and Resisting Arrest

**Note*** Date on recording is incorrect- occurred 1-25-2016

Really. Hm. He looks awfully spry for a guy who should be in his 70s.

Edit: Assuming he was an experienced and accomplished soldier in his 30’s by about 1985 or so. Plus a little backwards push on the birth year to fit him into Vietnam timeframe…

Just because he can’t do math, doesn’t mean the rest of us can’t.

Honestly, by this point, I’ve come to the conclusion that Bernie’s campaign is all sizzle and no steak. He’s the DNC’s Ron Paul: He’s selling his supporters on all sorts of populist ideas, but he has absolutely no idea how he’ll make them happen, so we’re left taking it on faith that he can make even 1% of it become reality.

If Sanders is serious he will use this period of elevated attention to teach Americans just what the hell democratic socialism is. Then maybe, someday, a socialist could take national office.

Did you not have the same problem with CNN with one of the earlier GOP debates?

The first one I did… I think… but I can’t remember as there have been so many I’ve lost track.

But since the GOP now stays away from CNN and has almost always been on Fox, I’ve not had to jump through hoops to watch their shows.

But Time Warner Cable is a completely separate company these days.

D’oh! You are exactly right…and for a number of years now.

Will be interesting if their Charter merger will succeed where that Comcast thing died a deserved death.

this is clearly a “change election”, and if bernie gets nominated there will be a clear choice between democratic socialism and national socialism

And one promises to beat up on the evil black and brown people and immigrants while the other promises not to while you both promise utter nonsense otherwise. Which one do you think will be more attractive to most people?

Bernie keeps banging away about Iraq. I honestly wonder how much that can mean to voters who were in elementary school at the time. (God, I feel old.)

Lastly, good luck getting around Vermont without petroleum products.

Okay, wait - this guy is 54. That means when Reagan left office he was 27. So he retired at 27 as a Colonel.

Does that make any sense?

Hardly. People only really advance through the ranks taht fast. The only time tehy really did was the Civil War.

You’re right. All of it is laudable, but I just doing see it being doable at the moment, with the GOP in such a scary place. It is like Bernie is the president you want after the next one, but the next one is the one you need right now.

I even think the mainstream GOP (and they do exist, I’m sure) want Clinton to cream the wingnuts for them. Lance the boil for them because they can’t do it themselves.

It’s like when they put the newly christened Ms. Jenner on the cover of Vogue. My first thought wasn’t “Wow, a transsexual on the cover of Vogue!”, it was “People still read Vogue??!”

Vogue sent me a free subscription for 2013. I read the first issue (it had Adele on the cover) and I’m like “Who do they think buys the stuff they advertise in this magazine?”

As it turns out, I DO! I saw an advert for a new fragrance and I bought it at Nordstrom.

I kind of hope it doesn’t go through. For a big evil cable monopoly, TWC has actually been pretty easy to deal with here in western NY. They send me a letter every March telling me they’re going to raise my rates, I call them and tell them I’m planning on switching to another provider, they give me another year at a promotional rate, and I assume they still make a decent profit off me. Their internet could be faster, but otherwise no real complaints.

Even if he knew exactly how he would like to do all his policies…what happens once the show meets the road and you have to deal with the sharktank of Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell and the US Congress?

Oh, that’s right. we are going to have a protest. How well do protests do in this country again? Okay only after years of getting the majority of America behind something and even then it takes more time to sell the actual legislation.

Didn’t Obama make a comment about rolling that big bolder up the hill a bit. Yeah that.

And I bet some of them will secretly vote for Hillary.

Yeah Bernie’s disappointed me with that answer. Sorry Bernie, I like you but I have to get paid. I can’t be out protesting every time the Republicans reject your policies. I think Bernie’s better off in the Senate at this point. I really do. I understand the gripes with Hillary but I do think a lot of Sanders diehards aren’t realistic about the realities of the American presidency.

The moderate and realistic wing of the Democratic party stopped listening to the fringe left after losing the ‘88 election. For some reason the fringe is back thinking Bernie is going to bring about a left wet dream of nationalizing banks and insurance companies.
