Breaking Report: Shots Fired at Oregon Standoff - Ammon Bundy Arrested by FBI

Militants shut down?
US News • Views: 54,102

Oregon Live is reporting that the standoff at Oregon’s Malheur Wildlife Refuge may no longer be a standoff: Pete Santilli: Militants supporter says Ammon Bundy in custody.

(Santilli is a far right lunatic, so we should consider this report unconfirmed at this point.)

Two people have been shot and Ammon Bundy is in custody, according to a YouTube live stream report by Pete Santilli, who was speaking outside a hospital in Burns.

Santilli, a self-styled journalist, took to social media to discuss the breaking development late Tuesday afternoon. He also reported that the FBI has told the protesters at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge that they are free to go and need to leave immediately.

UPDATE at 1/26/16 6:16:53 pm by Charles Johnson

Apparently the FBI made their move when the Bundy gang was en route to a senior citizens’ center at John Day, Oregon.

Leader of Oregon occupation Ammon Bundy, three others arrested | KATU

HARNEY COUNTY, Ore. — KATU News has learned the leader of the armed occupation at Malheur Wildlife Refuge has been arrested, along with three other individuals Tuesday evening.

Sources tell KATU News there was some sort of engagement involving shots fired as the militia group was on its way to a meeting in John Day.

Highway 395 closed between Burns and John Day around 5 p.m.

The details of the arrest have not yet been released, but officials say there are injuries in the area.

Las Vegas Assemblywoman Michele Fiore just tweeted her support for the Bundy gang, saying LaVoy Finicum was “murdered with his hands up.”

UPDATE at 1/26/16 8:07:47 pm by Charles Johnson

Jon Ritzheimer and Pete Santilli are now also in custody: Bundys in custody, one militant dead after gunfight near Burns.

Several hours later, Jon Ritzheimer, 32, a key militant leader, surrendered to police in Arizona on the conspiracy charge. He gained national fame for complaining on a video about the delivery of sex toys to the refuge in response to the occupiers’ plea for supplies.

Police also arrested Pete Santilli, an independent broadcaster known for his aggressive manner and live streaming refuge events. He also faces a conspiracy charge to impede federal officers.

Breaking Burns Oregon: Reports of Shots Fired - Casualties and Hospital Lockdown

Looks like shit is going way South now. Pete Santilli was on the phone with someone named Blane at the refuge, who’s apparently in charge. Pete wanted to get the women and children out of there but it sounded like Blane was going crazy. Santilli is refusing to even say what Blane said at the very end of the phone call, except that it was absolutely nuts. Pete seems very badly shaken.

The woman in the car with Pete is cautioning him against saying too much because “people are listening.”

With Ammon and other alpha males on their way to the slammer, leadership at the bird sanctuary will fall to whichever nutter thinks he can grab it. Since these fools all think they are Genghis Khan and Robert E. Lee rolled into one, this is likely to lead to internal dissension, if not a climactic shootout.

Blaine Cooper

According to oregonlive.com, two other men in the refuge are Army veteran Ryan Payne and Blaine Cooper. Cooper was once identified as a Marine in an interview in 2014, according to Lilyea, one of the moderators for This Aint Hell, but shortly after released a statement denying that he had spent any time in the service. According to Lilyea, Cooper’s records show that he was enlisted to join the Marines in what is called the “Delayed Entry Program,” or DEP, but never attended bootcamp. The DEP is a program available for all branches that gives enlistees up to a year from their enlistment to show up for initial training.

Ryan Payne

Payne, on the other hand, served time in the Army as an infantryman and was involved in the Bundy Ranch standoff. He left active service in 2006 after deploying twice to Iraq, according to parts of his service record released by the Army to the Washington Post. During the Bundy standoff, Lilyea says that Payne told reporters he had served as an elite Army Ranger but after some digging by former Rangers, Payne was found to be, in fact, not one. Payne served time in a military intelligence battalion and earned a number of commendation medals for doing so. He is also the recipient of the Combat Infantryman Badge.

That would be the false secure feeling they may have had thinking the Feds were seeming to let them get away with whatever they wanted to do.

From the start, I viewed the situation in Oregon as directly comparable to countries elsewhere in the world fighting insurgencies.

Would anyone recommended that the government of Ukraine or Libyan or any other nation facing an insurgency do nothing? That they simply sit around and watch as insurgents take territory and consolidate their hold on it? While they set up their own ruling government bodies and their own courts and start putting people on trial? Very few people would advocate inaction in those situations, but those situations are exactly what is transpiring in Oregon, so why should the US government?

The difference between the militants in Oregon and these other places is one of scale, not substance. Just like in those places, an armed group has come into Oregon, supplanted the rightful government with their own preferred government using violence and the threat of violence, has no intention of leaving voluntarily and plans on spreading their area of influence.

As uncomfortable as it is, I think the comparison of Oregon and those other insurgencies is apt. These people are not merely criminals. A criminal ignores or breaks one or several laws society has created. These guys not only reject the idea of obeying the law, they reject the legitimacy of those laws. They reject the very legitimacy of the U.S. government that passed those laws in favor of their own invented America that they want to impose on the rest of us. They are not criminals, they are insurgents, rebels, terrorists, substantively no different than those anywhere else in the world and no less dangerous.

I know some people will reject this comparison and that it may seem over the top, but when the situations are compared, the difference really is only that of scale, and not of substance. That’s why I’ve taken such a personal hard line on these guys all along and wanted to see this situation ended quickly by LE.

Of course the media isn’t covering… It’s an active Federal law enforcement effort, in the dark and the cold, with the roads closed, and they know damned well that if they ever want access again, they shouldn’t broadcast what the FBI is doing while it’s going on. Holding off on coverage is the right thing right now.

I wonder if the power co-op just shut down their whole grid for the operation?

Next big issue: What about the people at the refuge itself? This is where it could get double-ugly. I expect the Refugistas are going to shoot at the feds on sight now. It could be a war situation already.

Text of FBI statement:

Arrests Made in the Occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge: Joint Statement by the FBI and OSP - 01/26/16
**note correction to Hwy. 395

At approximately 4:25 p.m. (PST) on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Oregon State Police (OSP) began an enforcement action to bring into custody a number of individuals associated with the armed occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. During that arrest, there were shots fired.

One individual who was a subject of a federal probable cause arrest is deceased. We will not be releasing any information about that person pending identification by the medical examiner’s office.

One individual suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. He was arrested and is currently in custody.

The arrested individuals include:

* Ammon Edward Bundy, age 40, of Emmett, Idaho
* Ryan C. Bundy, age 43, of Bunkerville, Nevada
* Brian Cavalier, age 44, of Bunkerville, Nevada
* Shawna Cox, age 59, Kanab, Utah
* Ryan Waylen Payne, age 32, of Anaconda, Montana

These probable cause arrests occurred along Highway 395.

In a separate event in Burns, Oregon, at approximately 5:50 pm, Oregon State Police arrested the following individual:

* Joseph Donald O’Shaughnessy, age 45, Cottonwood, Arizona

All of the named defendants face a federal felony charge of conspiracy to impede officers of the United States from discharging their official duties through the use of force, intimidation, or threats, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 372.

We continue to work with Harney County Sheriff Dave Ward and his deputies; Oregon State Police; and the United States Attorney’s Office to address any further outstanding issues. As the investigation is ongoing, we cannot comment further at this time.

All defendants should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.

I mentioned in #148 that I thought it was mentioned here that the media cut out and left over the weekend. I thought it was said they were bored and so they left only a couple organizations.

The cops bored everyone to death. It worked.

They also got to pick the point of the confrontation. Away from the compound, women and children, and got most of the known leadership without a lot of backers.

Sounds like good planning and picking a time and place with minimum risk to innocents, by-standings, and even the LE folk themselves.

They said that the FBI made a felony stop. That means that they had guns drawn from the get-go, and would have made it abundantly clear that there should be no attempt to resist. Anybody that pulls a weapon in a situation like that is just wanting to commit suicide by cop.

I have to say that I was once stopped by 3 Illinois Highway Patrol cars on a felony stop (Mistaken identity). They were looking for somebody that had just broken out of prison, killed a guard. Was last seen diving a car a lot like mine, and had know associates in the area I was in. I can tell you, when you see guys with guns behind car doors ahead of you, and look at your rearview and see 2 shot guns pointing in your direction, shit gets serious fast. Took a few minutes to get things straightened out, but I knew if I did anything fast, sudden or stupid, it could end very poorly.

Fiore, a vocal supporter of the Bundy family, said that Ammon Bundy told his wife that Finicum was cooperating with police and had put his hands up. Then, Fiore said, Bundy told his wife that he watched police shoot Finicum three times. She said that Ammon Bundy also said Finicum was on the ground when he was shot.

“Isn’t this a wonderful country we live in?” Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, Ammon’s father, said sarcastically when the Los Angeles Times informed him about the arrests and the death.

“We believe that those federal people shouldn’t even be there in that state, and be in that county and have anything to do with this issue. … I have some sons and other people there trying to protect our rights and liberties and freedoms, and now we’ve got one killed, and all I can say is, he’s sacrificed for a good purpose.”

In other words, Cliven doesn’t believe in the United States of America.

Yeah, the shit just got real for these pricks. No more dressing up playing freedom fighting patriot or swaggering around armed to the teeth trying to intimidate people. All of a sudden the feds have their weapons out and you know they also have (camera) drones, helicopters, armored vehicles, etc at their disposal.

Idiots. They can go fuck themselves for thinking they’re somehow more Real Americans™ than all the rest of us. I hope they get the book thrown at them.

A quick decapitation strike with the targets at a disadvantage (it’s harder to aim an AR-15 out of a car), in the cold and dark, on an open road, with no warning. Isolate, engulf, apprehend, and leave the main base in confusion. Apparently Angel Moroni didn’t read Sun Tzu.

Remember folks:

They’re the out-of-towners who came to save an Oregon county from non-local government. To defend democracy by not listening to all the people who wanted them gone, and protect them from a false legal system by setting up their own legal system that answers to no one. So that they could save a pair of ranchers from jail, who didn’t want help and caved to their sentences. And to take back land from the federal government for ranchers, that never belonged to ranchers…but also to not give that land back to the Paiute, who the government did take it from.

And they were going to it peacefully!

Except for all the firearms. And the oaths to fight to the death. And the guys who talked about how you should just shoot cops because they can’t really enforce the law.

And they didn’t mean anybody any harm!

Except the townspeople whose jobs were on hold. And the people that were threatened by militia dudes. And the people whose property they trespassed on. And the Paiute they told to fuck off. And the aforementioned cops that deserve to be shot. And the people they were planning to indict and arrest with their personal trial system. And feds. And the noncombatants there were worried about enough to pantomime concern about the safety of, but not worried enough to send away.

And they were totally serious and this was well thought out!

Except for the online begging. And the endless vanity blogging. And the incoherent demands that they didn’t even ask other ranchers about the feasibility of. And the sumo wrestler. And the travelling-salesman road trips that suggest a gibbon well into a methanol binge designed their opsec. And the BRINGING IN FUCKING KIDS.

Oh…and the Cleon Skousen bugfuck crazy; 50% scam, 50% narcissism by weight philosophy of governance.

Seriously, to hell with all these people and everyone that backed them, mythologized them, or other tongue-bathed their incoherent, shoddy, preening horseshit. Find a scathing article about the fecklessnes of “millenials,” search/replace that words with “Bundy Militia” and you’re halfway there. The other half is just saying “fucking whiny entitled fuckbake” over and over.

Now we all should pray to our various gods, devils, and semolina-based pasta that nobody else gets hurt.

So, an arrogant New York businessman that became a reality TV show star is going to drop out and says to FOX: let’s see your ratings now Roger Ailes.

Does anyone need any further example that he is in this for ego glory and is treating it all as a TV reality show?

The ratings? A serious candidate would not be worried about ratings, they would want to get the message out.

Well, if they had a message.

Wake up Trump butt kissers. You are dupes!

Actually, this is really rather astute of Trump. He cuts right through to the actual heart of the issue. For Fox, this is all about money. Money comes from ratings. Ratings come from Trump.

Did he cry out “”Is there no help for the widow’s son?” while his hands were over his head?
