Video: More Violence, This Time at Trump’s Rally in Tucson

According to NBC News’ Frank Thorp V, this video shows a Trump supporter punching and kicking a protester.

And that’s not all. Here’s another video showing Trump’s campaign manager Corey Lewandowski grabbing a protester by the collar of his shirt and shoving him.

Here’s more on the violence at today’s Trump rally in Tucson:

Bryan Sanders was wearing an American flag shirt and carrying a poster depicting Trump with a Confederate flag superimposed on his face when he was jumped.

Police quickly arrested the attacker. His identity was not immediately released.

As five police officers responded to the assault, Trump assailed the protesters.

“That’s a disgrace. Y’know, they’re taking away our First Amendment rights,” he said. “They’re troublemakers; they’re no good. We’d better be careful. We’ve got to take our country back, folks.”

In another incident, a female protester — reportedly a University of Southern California student — was punched by a man in the crowd. She was being treated by paramedics at the scene after the rally.

Another woman, 67 years old, was cited for assaulting a TPD officer, after she poked him in the chest while trying to explain how she was injured by a Trump supporter, who she said pushed her against the railing and kicked her.

That first video makes me wonder. I don’t know, call me distrustful of Trump.

Is it staged?

Just the way it goes on seems weird. The attacking dude is pounding and kicking but is he? Is it wrestling showmanship? Sorry to be so cynical, but Trump.

Then the attacker just backs up and stops like he knows its over and he is ready to be taken. Who acts like that? Finally he turns around to get handcuffed like this happens everyday, again ready for it like he knows the routine.

Add in it is a Black Trump supporter and my suspicions rise. Why? b.d. in #3 gets right to it. Would it surprise anyone Trump wants to make it seem like it isn’t just Black protesters being attacked by White supporters.

And that brings the real problem all along with Trump. It is all a show. He lies, he talks trash, he cancels and controls TV. Why should I trust that anything I see is what it is? Why wouldn’t someone question everything done by the new PT Barnum?

None of this is real is it?

I don’t want to downplay a real violent act. I hope no one was hurt. My point is what do we know, other than we know Trump. He buys people and manipulates scenes for the media impression. You just never know.

We get a show. Give them a show.

The degeneration of the Republican party has reached the point where it is reasonable to wonder if violence at rallies for the GOP front-runner is real or staged.

Think about that for a while. Let it really sink in. Once that is done, one has no justification for voting for the GOP or for defending it in any way whatsoever.

The GOP is a disaster and needs to be destroyed or reformed so fundamentally that destruction of its current state is inherently part of the deal.

Well, I’m back from Mexico, took one look at the news feeds and am thinking about repacking my bags and heading back down there.

Had a great trip, fantastic diving, great folks, great operation we were working with.

Looks like Trump is almost a foregone conclusion, I’m not a religious person, but I’d have to start thinking he made some shady deal at a dark crossroad at midnight to get the nomination. How else can one logically explain how he keeps going up in the polls when any normal candidate would have imploded by now under the weight of all the derp.

The GOP leadership’s hopes at this point are trying to find somebody who won’t invoke the sort of visceral disgust and hatred that Trump does, if only in the hopes of saving their Senate majority. They seem to be giving up on winning the presidency and are now focused on preservation of the gains they’ve made.

This is the only protester attack I am questioning. I am just basing it on what I see and how it looks. I too am not sure it isn’t real, but I brought it up because of the nature of the Trump campaign. He makes me question everything.

I guess more than anything I am questioning the fact that I can’t trust Trump. He is running for President. Trust should be a big factor and concern.

That’s the thing about gerrymandered maps. They help you keep seats you shouldn’t do….right up until the point when you start losing lots of votes at once.

Then, instead of 5 percent swing meaning just a few less seats, you can be looking at losing a huge swathe of supposedly ‘safe’ seats.

I have no idea if Trump is actually going to separate Republican voters from actually voting for the GOP. I think we’re going to be able to tell in the next week or two, when polls of the Republican field start coming in from after Rubio has “suspended” his campaign.

Trump has been on about 35% support for since the start of the year. With the other candidates dropping out he still hasn’t been able to get close to 50%. If he can’t even get to 50% of the Republican voters, he’s going to get annihilated in the general election, as well as suppressing GOP voter turnout, while massively increasing Democratic turnout.

Even if the Republican party doesn’t split, it is incredibly likely that the change in turnout will produce massive swings everywhere.

This kind of disaster on the GOP side is exactly the kind of thing that might put gerrymandered GOP seats into play.

In a Republican gerrymander, the GOP gives itself a large number of seats that are just safe enough, while concentrating Democratic voters into a smaller number of overwhelmingly (D) districts.

With Trump and/or a GOP split, those “just safe enough” House seats become targets.

Thing is, Gerrymandering is vulnerable in wave elections, as the margins are often not that great in terms of victory.

Gerrymandering is designed to have a certain amount of give to it, but when that margin is overwhelmed, it fails spectacularly. I saw the Democrats’ attempt at gerrymandering backfire horribly in 2002. There are a lot of seats in states like Ohio and North Carolina that NO ONE thinks are currently competitive that could fall to the Democrats.

We did The Pit, Dos Ojos, Taj Mahal (not spelled like that, but that’s how it sounds), Kukulcan and Little Brother. All were good, but Little Brother (same site as Kukulcan) was one of the best, The Pit is just insane too.

Ocean was good too, it was pretty windy the first few days, so vis wasn’t perfect, but for an old quarry diver it was heaven.

All in all, a good week, only marred by my being stupid and leaving a 700 dollar dive computer sitting on my BC at the cenote and walking away. Yea, it disappeared. Hoping that my trip insurance will cover it. If not, well, I’ve been jonesing for the new Shearwater anyhow.

I don’t think his chances are slim.

Republican voters will fall in line. Republican figures will endorse him in the end, and the voters will vote because they are motivated by hate. They will vote because they hate Hillary and liberals and brown people.

And worst of all, the polls will not show this leading up to the election. This is because there is a significant number of people who will not admit they will vote Trump out of social shame, but in the privacy of a voting booth will do exactly that.

Don’t get me wrong, I still think he won’t become President. But he will get well over 40% of the vote and the margin will be very narrow indeed. If he loses, it will be because more people turn out to vote against him, not because people won’t vote for him.

Republican voters will fall in line. Republican figures will endorse him in the end, and the voters will vote because they are motivated by hate. They will vote because they hate Hillary and liberals and brown people.

And worst of all, the polls will not show this leading up to the election. This is because there is a significant number of people who will not admit they will vote Trump out of social shame, but in the privacy of a voting booth will do exactly that.

Don’t get me wrong, I still think he won’t become President. But he will get well over 40% of the vote and the margin will be very narrow indeed. If he loses, it will be because more people turn out to vote against him, not because people won’t vote for him.

That’s something we were told back in 2012, that there was going to be a last-minute break as voters would get to the polls, look at how “terrible” the economy was or think of the “disaster” that the ACA was, and hold their nose to vote Romney just to be rid of the black guy in the White House. It was even one of the lynchpins of the “unskewed polls” lunacy, that many voters were afraid of telling pollsters the truth about their Romney support for fear of being lynched for not supporting the black president by rabid liberals. And so they factored in the “silent vote” of Romney supporters who were not represented in the official polls, thus getting polls that showed a close race or even a blowout for Willard.

I think you’re going to find that, in reality, the number of Trump supporters who are afraid to voice such will be small and amount to little in the final numbers. The continued polarization of our politics makes the odds of there being millions of unreported Trump supporters waiting in the wings rather long.

Sucks about the computer - I got lucky with having a private guide just to myself, so he was constantly reminding me to leave nothing behind. He’s an awesome guy, a Spaniard who is married to a Mexican-Lebanese woman.

I’m hoping the weather is awesome next month - I want to do The Pit under full sunlight this time, and to get better reflections off some of the other haloclines. Looking for some nice reef time, too. There’s also a couple of cenotes my guide has promised me that are safe if the water levels aren’t too high.

One of the dive shops here is closing - most of the good stuff is gone, but I did pick up an Oceanic BUD backup that may have had some age dust on the package. I was a little bummed when I realized I couldn’t buy that battery off the rack - unlike my other (which takes a ubiquitous battery), it takes something like a 2430. Had to order battery, casket, and realized I was out of silicone grease., so I had to order that too. Anyway, I’ve always wanted the backup, and it was something like half off.

Over the past few days, while staying with another old lady friend as a flood refugee, she watched far more TV news than normal. Yup, Louisville. Paradise is closing up, a dumb, sad story. I’ve done Bonaire trips with them a few times and bought a lot of gear there until they jacked me on a maintenance after the new owners took over last year. They’re nice enough, but when they bought from the previous owner they had to relocate from a facility with a pool to cruddy strip mall space. They didn’t do their homework on the revenue that came from the pool.The current owners are nice but naive.

Right now they’ve got a bunch of decent wetsuits still - Hendersons and LavaCores (but not the LavaCore fleece - the older models). The Henderson 3 mm is top notch - but I already have one, and was not inclined to get a second one of the exact same type.

I did go ahead with Nitrox on The Pit. I didn’t exceed the MOD by but a foot.

NPR had an interesting piece on the potential problems that Trump would have avoiding a conflict-of-interest between his businesses and being President. Even if he turns full operational control over to his children or others, it’s not a situation like an investment portfolio where it can be put into a blind trust and he has no idea what’s going on. He knows what properties and businesses he owns / runs and it would be difficult to separate that from possibly coloring his decisions to some degree.

They said that probably the closest equivalent in modern times was when Bloomberg was mayor of NYC, he never set foot inside the offices of his company.

He has a 12% approval rating with Hispanics, so Trump would be lucky to get half the Hispanic support that Romney got, and Hispanics will make up a larger percentage of the electorate than they did in 2012. Basically Trump’s chances depends on a huge wave of blue collar whites who don’t usually vote overwhelming the number of upscale whites, women and minorities who will turn out to vote against him. The odds are not in his favor.

Because parsing attempts to codify what happened, step by step, thus countermanding the denials of what happened. Breaking what happened down into parts and getting documentation attempts rationally address the cluster of accusations and theorems that are going to arise. Problem is…it won’t work. The violence and the denial of violence are part of the same phenomenon. These are people who build reality backwards from self-pity and anger. They know they’re lashing out, they know they’re lying about being attacked, and don’t care because their “truth” is they deserve to lash out. In rallies, they’re bolstered by shared resentment and by the confirmation of the powerful guy saying the same thing. But this isn’t just the madness of crowds—given any other context where they had license—the privacy of their homes, in an isolated spot, surrounded by buddies who were on-side—they’d behave the same way. Hopefully no-one here has ever been attacked in this way, but—it’s like when a bully thinks they have you completely alone and isolated, and things escalate beyond normal because they see a window in which there’s No Consequences.

This happens at Trump rallies because he’s giving them license, telling them there should be no consequences, no stigma, for their emotions or their actions. He’s not talking in code or half-measures like other politicians that work the same corner. He’s selling not just a moment of free expression of ugliness, but the promise of a world in which they can do as they will…while they people they dislike will be held down.
The shared language of self-pitying anger—the common argot of racial fears, media hate, conspiracy-mongering, empty bellicosity—is a cultural cyst that’s been growing for years.

Josh Marshall is right; it’s going to escalate. In no small part because as much as they abhor Trump personally, the right is fully invested in presenting its opponents as existential threats. Every time there’s violence, there will be a chaffing of opinions about how rude the protestors are, how they’re censors and thugs and deserving. And that is enough deflection to keep the Trump people feeling their power, feeling an opportunity for cruelty.

Our government is full of good people doing their best to serve our nation as best they can. This all occurs despite the handicaps imposed by the right, vis a vis, hating government and everything they do and to end its effective existence.
When the Right does become aware and nitpick something, like Benghazi or Flint, as a demonization of the institution or the individual rather than participate in investigating failures and erecting fixes I cannot help but feel they are the opposite of Patriots.

Found something funny out. We’ve all seen that Confessions of a Republican ad. The guy in it is not only alive but we probably know him. He’s the guy who also played the anchor in the Chappelle Show Frontline (Clayton Bigsby) spoofs. Now what is true, he was a Republican when the ad was made. He’s had a pretty good career. RTV use to go around promoting the conspiracy theory that the U.S. was going to break apart in 2010. Putin has been wishing for the U.S. to have a civil war because that would magically teach us not to engage in war anymore. There is little doubt in my mind that the Russians have been engaging in psy-ops on the internet. They have troll houses that spread pro-Putin and pro-Russian propaganda all over English language websites. Its in their best interest for the U.S. to crumble.

The Queensferry Crossing bridge is being constructed a few kilometres north of where I live, to cope with the vast increase in road traffic over the existing Forth Road bridge which is showing its age to the point where it was closed last year for a couple of weeks when a support bracket was found sheared during an inspection, causing major traffic problems for everyone in the area as it’s effectively the only connection between SE Scotland and the North. The new bridge is on time and (gasp!) below budget although that’s due to a decision early on in the planning process for the old bridge to remain open for light vehicles meaning the new crossing didn’t have to be quite as big as first intended.

Here’s a timelapse video of a major operation carried out over the past month, moving a 6000-tonne prefabricated section of roadway out from the northern side of the Firth into place over two supporting piers. Please excuse the cheesy music.

Stein is pretty ignorant about Ukraine, it seems. Granted, I pay attention to the situation there closely, because I have friends there and here in China from Luhansk oblast, but a presidential candidate should be better informed than I.

There is corruption in the Ukraine government, and yes, there are ultra-nationalists and neo-Nazis there, but they are not running the government. The leaders in Kyiv would like very much to be part of the EU, which Putin most definitely does not want.

Trump rubs the majority Mormons of Utah the wrong way. He’s foul-mouthed and he’s been married multiple times. The Mormon church has really pushed its US members to be accepting of immigrants and so Trump’s “let’s build a wall” rhetoric doesn’t work so well in a state where many people have spent two years proselytising an foreign country.

I live in a heavily Mormon area of Maricopa county. I’ve seen Carson bumper stickers, Bernie stickers, Hillary stickers—but Trump? Not a one. He’s just not a popular guy.

In the upper 30s today. Looks like we dodged the snow. Now just need to get off my ass and go do something active. Thinking of going over to the Art Museum since I am a member now and get in for free (instead of $20/visit). Figure it’s a trip towards paying the membership fee off. :)

Alternative is sitting and sorting photographs; cropping and shrinking, etc. etc. Got a backlog of those to do and organize as well.

Even if that was true, he has almost no chance to get enough delegates to be the nominee. But it’s not even true that the upcoming states will be good for Bernie.

The ones one the 22nd, their delegates and rough poll numbers are:

Idaho 23 delegates - Sanders +2
Utah 33 delegats - Clinton +5
Arizona 75 delegates - Clinton +25

i.e. Clinton is likely to stretch her lead by almost 50 delegates by Tuesday. The primaries on the 26th aren’t likely to be that great for Sanders either…..so his supporters are really just being delusional when they think it’s worth him staying in for any reason based on a chance he might win.

Staying in on the basis that he can continue to pull Clinton to the left is a valid thing to do. But that needs him to stop attacking Clinton directly, and instead attack policies and the Republicans.

I did notice the tents, but did not witness them destroying them. That’s not acceptable to me, at all. I heard there were scuffles and there’s always going to be some damages by trouble makers.

Here’s the thing, though: Not one article on Trump’s campaign manager and/or the Trump supporter assaulting a protester.

The protesters aren’t assaulting people, Trump’s campaign and supporters are. There are literally dozens of news stories to that effect. There is video evidence. And his campaign lies and denies. And media just shrugs and both sides it.

That’s fine. That part of the new York protests was harmless, funny, and well within the law. Still, the protest organizers need to make clear to their attendees that throwing water bottles at the NYPD makes your protest look bad and the criminal record it will get you will make you look bad to future employers.

Pretty amazing comment from a poster over at Gawker regarding Trump’s rise/appeal among the idiots.

Trump’s success is because he’s presenting himself as a big, comforting father who is here, at long last, to stop your white tears. Trump is winning because of white daddy issues and his ability to talk to you like you’re a sad, scared child who needs a strong, brave man.

He appeals to the anti-education faction of America — the ones that view articulation as elitism. I’m about to get nerdy here, but if you analyze his speech, he uses very simple verbs that are primarily derived from Anglo-Saxon origins, whereas politicians who view education as a benefit use verbs derived from Latinate […] (edited for length, see private comment for didactic portion of the comment).

So Trump makes very simplistic word choices, creates short sentences, and repeats them. He is literally catering to the lowest literacy levels of the nation. So basically, Trump is like a big racist father who says whatever you want to hear to reaffirm your own prejudices and convince you that he’s the protective daddy who will sweep in and rescue you from the bad, bad government and the bad immigrants and the bad whatever — he talks to you like you’re five and you’ve had a bad dream or the thunderstorm is loud. He coddles you with all the affirmations and promises you want to hear. Trump is basically presenting himself as the fill-in father you’ve been waiting on, who is finally here to sop up all your white tears.

My grandson said that he wants a “good camera” for his Bar Mitzvah. He is already a fairly competent amateur photographer and I want to encourage his skills without destroying my bank account.

I’d recommend either Canon or Nikon. He may already have a preference if he’s a competent amateur. I’m a Canon user as I find the color they produce more pleasing and they have a wide array of lenses, many of which are affordable (esp. when they go on sale or offer rebates).
