David Daleiden’s Anti-Choice Mentor Admits Daleiden Broke Laws

Sleazy anti-choice tactics that went too far

Creepy “pro-life” guru Mark Crutcher advised David Daleiden on how to create his fraudulent videos accusing Planned Parenthood of “selling baby parts” without actually breaking any laws, but last month at a conference in Cleveland Crutcher admitted openly that Daleiden “made some mistakes.”

Attorneys for David Daleiden, the activist who led the undercover smear campaign against Planned Parenthood last year, are trying to get a grand jury indictment of him dismissed in Texas, claiming that it was politically motivated. But Daleiden’s mentor, who has conducted many of his own sham investigations of abortion providers, acknowledged at an anti-abortion conference last month that the young activist “made some mistakes” that might have led him to run afoul of the law.

Mark Crutcher heads a group called Life Dynamics, which pioneered some of the undercover tactics that Daleiden used to go after Planned Parenthood and conducted a similar debunked investigation involving abortion providers’ handling of fetal tissue in the late 1990s. He has also trained right-wing activists James O’Keefe and Lila Rose, is now training what he hopes will be “a whole army of David Daleidens” to infiltrate abortion providers across the country.

[…]

“I’m not going to get into details about this,” he said, “but David made some mistakes that we warned him about. Renee [Hobbs] and I were on the phone with him for many, many hours over the years that he was doing this, but David got caught up in youthful exuberance. And I tried to tell him, I said, ‘David, you’re making some mistakes here and that’s going to cost you.’ I said, ‘And youthful exuberance always loses out to old age and treachery, and I’m old and treacherous, so I’ve been down this trail.’ But he made some mistakes, and I don’t want to get into the details of that.”

“What you have to understand, this is an argument that I tried to get over to David: Anything that you want to do in an intelligence-gathering environment that’s illegal, you can find a way to do it legally,” he added.

Yeah, committing multiple felonies and putting peoples lives in danger is totally “youthful exuberance”.

So this guy has been doing ‘intelligence gathering’ missions against PP and the pro-choice agencies since 1993 by his own admission. That’s 23 years. And yet, in 23 years he and his cohorts have not been able to prodice a single shred of illegal or unethical behavior by PP.

How can these guys not wake up some morning and say to themselves, “We’ve been at this 23 years and we’ve gotten bupkus, nothing. Maybe there’s nothing there…”

Are they truly that deluded? Or is it something more sinister and they are knowingly, intentionally persecuting innocent organizations with the full knowledge of their own duplicity and evilness?

I hate news stories that use the videos this way:

The 24-8 party-line Senate vote follows Republican outcry over undercover videos released last summer that alleged [Emphasis added] Planned Parenthood was illegally selling fetal tissue for profit.

When they should say ‘fraudulent, discredited videos’.

Daleiden’s misdeeds are still having some of their desired effect.

They’re religious fanatics. Normal rules of logic and rationality just don’t apply, and their fanaticism makes them believe they’re justified to do anything to achieve their insane goals. The only reason creeps like Crutcher avoid breaking laws is because they’re scared of the consequences — but they know there are even crazier foot soldiers who aren’t scared and have no fear of breaking laws, right up to committing murder and other terrorist acts.

Like alI bad investigators, Daleiden starts from a conclusion (abortion providers are breaking the law because they’re evil) and then works to find evidence to support that conclusion. And since he’ll never allow himself to examine the validity of that conclusion, the fact that he’s spent decades coming up with jack and shit just reinforces a personal belief that the providers are very skilled at hiding their crimes and he needs to dig further.

Just saw this:

Bernie received three more delegates than he was supposed to get according to the precinct caucuses. I’m not sure why, but it might be because we had a big snowstorm in the mountains and the western slope people couldn’t make it. If so, another big plus for caucuses!! ///

I was told by an attendee that the Bernie people were chanting at Senator Bennett to change his super delegate vote to Bernie. He is one of those third way, moderate types that can get elected in Colorado, but the groovier-than-thou types of course despise him. Sigh.

Unsurprisingly…

Donald Trump mocks Bernie Sanders’ meeting with Pope Francis

Both the pope and Sanders have said it lacked any political motive.

Sanders, the first Jewish candidate to win a Democratic primary, told CBS News’ Seth Doane that he “chose not to do pictures” because “we didn’t want anyone to think this was politica.”

And the pope told reporters that he greeted Sanders out of “politeness.”

Guessing that’s why the Sanders camp got out something totally different via Politico and other “news” outlets, as noted downstairs.

Something I’ve been wondering, particularly after the uproar bullshit about how the $10 registration fee (voluntary, not required to participate, going to fund party needs) for the second level of Washington caucuses was going to really hurt all the young Berners who do not have $10 and and it would disenfranchise them and all Hillary delegates are millionaires and billionaires and WAH, it’s not fair.

Wait—I lost my train of thought. Oh yeah—I wonder if these people who are anxious to become national Bernie delegates have any idea how much it costs to go to the national convention?

As an example, Nevada’s estimates (I’m using Nevada because that is where a whole bunch of Bernie caucus delegates, alternates, and others made a big noise at their second level caucus)

…delegates are responsible for the entire cost of their travel and accommodations related to the National Convention. The room rate for the Embassy Suites in Philadelphia is $500 a night. Flights from Las Vegas to Philadelphia average between $400 to $600 roundtrip.

nvdems.com

CA Dems estimate sheet:

Airfare to Philadelphia* $400-$900
Hotel for 4 nights* $2,600
Food and Incidentals $450+
Statewide Delegate Meeting $150+
Total Cost $3,600-$4,100

I know for those going from here, they are figuring on $2,500-$3,000 for four days. And here in south by dog carolina, there is competition to become a national delegate—at the state convention, people who want to be delegates have buttons and handouts and postcards and other kinds of promo materials to promote themselves getting elected as national delegates.

Hillary was off pinching money from those Hollywood types that can’t see past George Clooney’s eyes and jawline.

I took a Lizard Oath not to help one Dem hurt another, but it’s becoming….difficult.

They’re going to have to set up carpooling and a homeless camp for Bernie Supporters. Maybe local Berniacs can let them crash at their pads.

Bernie has a vague and non-detailed plan on how he is going to get Wall Street to pay for all of his delegate’s expenses.

Is matriarchy inherently better than patriarchy? (For that mater, between the cult of Mary and the old nuns, RC is about as matriarchal as any large religion gets.)

Not inherently, but it might be a better crap shoot. The local Ladies of Guadalupe are as anti-choice as they come.

Perhaps they could occupy the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge visitor center.

Hey, if Trump can convince his followers Mexico is going to build his Great Wall of Trump, Bernie has the right to make Wall Street Pay for The Revolution™ that will ultimately bring their demise.

Bernie’s Big Adventure in the Vatican was pretty obviously a calculated move, to try to appeal to religious Democrats, many of whom are Roman Catholic. He’s seen as a pretty unreligious guy, if not a complete atheist, and I can just imagine the strategy meetings about using the Pope to try to offset that image.

He’s supposed to be the non-political politician in the Democratic race, but this shows just how phony and contrived that image is. He’s a career politician to the core.

If a Bernie Bro can clearly explain to me how Sanders will break up the banks and get single payer through without shitting on the economy, they can camp in my back yard for $10 a night.

Added bonus: it’s a five minute walk to the bus to Philly from my place, and a 5 minute car ride to PATCO.

The RC church has painted itself into a corner over abortion, contraception, and male leadership. It didn’t actually have to, historically, but it’s going to be stuck with them for a very long time to come. Their answer is to turn to the third world, looking for comfortable cultural niches. Probably won’t work, but it will buy time.

It’s not that big. I was there yesterday. Plus I best that if they did the FWS could sic all the turtles that hang out in the pond on them.

For those of you thinking that electing Tea Party members was supposed to get rid of cronyism and corruption in politics - I think that claim can be forever laid to rest.

The latest from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (currently under state and federal indictment for fraud):

Attorney General Ken Paxton still paying top aides who left agency a month ago

AUSTIN — The state is paying thousands of dollars in salaries and benefits to at least two former high-level staffers in Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office who haven’t worked there for over a month.

Charles “Chip” Roy resigned as first assistant attorney general March 9 but remains on the state’s payroll. He received his full month’s salary of $16,220.62 on April 1, according to the state comptroller, and remains on the payroll as an employee of the state even while working a new job for a national political committee.

Roy declined to comment about the payment arrangement, which the agency confirmed Wednesday after The Dallas Morning News raised questions. Despite its earlier public statement that Roy resigned, an agency spokeswoman said Thursday that he’s also on “emergency leave.”

“Roy resigned on March 9th. He is currently on emergency leave through June 10th,” spokeswoman Cynthia Meyer said late Thursday.

If Roy’s arrangement continues until then, he will make $48,660 for the three months of emergency leave.

Now for those of you wondering what that “emegency leave” is, that is by state law limited to being granted only in cases of death or other severe events in the employee’s immediate family -

Roy’s resignation was sudden. At the time, Paxton made no mention of any emergency and hired Roy’s replacement the same day. The next day, Roy took a job as executive director of a super PAC supporting Sen. Ted Cruz’s presidential campaign.

The comptroller’s office, which cuts checks for state employees, was unaware Roy and others who had resigned from the attorney general’s office were still being paid until The News contacted them.

Former communications director Allison Castle left the agency March 10, according to media reports. But, like Roy, she remains on the payroll. She was paid her full monthly salary of $12,825 on April 1.

As for who has replaced these people on “leave” - you can guess where their priorities lie:

Paxton’s office has had several high-profile departures and hires in recent weeks, including the resignations of Roy and Castle, who were replaced by Jeff Mateer of the conservative law firm the Liberty Institute and Marc Rylander, a former pastor at Prestonwood Baptist, the Plano-based megachurch Paxton attends.

It also tells me that Bernie is not the guy driving the bus, which does not speak well of a Sanders administration. Do we really want another 4 years of an old guy being a puppet for his “advisors.” The last two presidencies we allowed that to happen, this country well to Hell in a handbasket. We just spent 8 years undoing much of the damage.

I remember as a poor art college student in 1976, we packed into a ‘69 Ford Van and headed for Philly from Columbus to party for the 200th Anniversary of ‘Merica. We had a tent and camped out at/near Valley Forge National Park and drove into the city each day to party and see the sights, etc. We had some friends from the area (Philly and Jersey) that showed us around.

We had little money, but had a fine time with what we did have.

re: #2 Whack-A-Mole

Actually finding some illegal activity by PP or a pro-choice agency would be a bonus to these guys. What they want is to create the appearance of illegality and to create sufficent outrage about it to change the culture sufficently that legal abortion is no longer available to any woman.
