Live Video of a Dying Party: Republican National Convention Live Stream Monday

Time to party like it’s 1899

Well, here we go; the moment we’ve all been waiting for, as the Republican Convention begins and the Grand Old Party dives off a cliff named Donald Trump. This convention may be the beginning of the end of the Republican Party.

As if to illustrate the point, there’s a video showing as I write this, composed of a long, long list of all the deceased party leaders.

The real Parade of Wingnuts begins at about 4 pm Pacific, starting with Duck Dynasty loon Willie Robertson, followed by Rick Perry.

Then the stars — Scott Baio, Antonio Sabato, Jr., etc. Control your excitement, people.

Then, the evening will plunge into the Benghazi conspiracy theories in earnest, followed by Rudy Giuliani and Donald Trump’s wife Melania.

There’s a complete list of the right wing festivities here.

UPDATE at 7/18/16 11:18:52 am by Charles Johnson

While former Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle expresses her unconditional support for Israel, outside the convention center at the Alex Jones rally, this is what’s going on:

Did I tune in to see TLC or a political convention. So hard to tell when the GOP has a bunch of reality stars, has beens and nobodies in prime slots.

And Rudy - the guy no one in the GOP wanted as president a few years back is now flacking for Trump and pushing his Islamophobic anti-minority agenda with gusto.

I couldn’t manage to get through 5 minutes of what is going to be a total shit show so I will say this in advance…

Thank you Lizards who will be watching and posting comments here.

I would much rather read it than watch a bunch of con men and women, most of whom are horrible, hateful human beings, and would likely make me want to remove myself from humanity out of extreme embarrassment of our species.

And yet, in spite of the ridiculous spectacle that is Trump’s campaign, he remains in striking distance of Hillary Clinton.

Maybe my paranoia is getting the best of me, but I wonder if people are telling pollsters they’re for Clinton when they actually want to vote for Trump.

Striking distance doesn’t mean what it used to mean. It would only mean something if Trump could actually convert some people. He’s not going to be able to. He seems to be actively working to make sure no minorities vote for him, and his comment about allowing Pence a mistake but not Clinton could be used to drive women away from him.

I know one of the people here is doing just that.

Also, are they polling cell phones? Because if not…that’s a whole lot of people they are not reaching…people who would probably go 60/40 dem.

6 Big Takeaways From The RNC’s Incredible 2012 Autopsy

Much of the report is about encouraging Republicans to listen not just to Republican minorities, but to reach out to black, Hispanic, and Asian American voters in their own communities. The reason: arithmetic.

“By the year 2050 we’ll be a majority-minority country and in both 2008 and 2012 President Obama won a combined 80 percent of the votes of all minority groups,” RNC chair Reince Priebus said in a press conference debuting the report. “The RNC cannot and will not write off any demographic or community or region of this country.”

“Free Markets Are Better Than Free Stuff”

(hides no-bid contract)

Depends on what the “stuff” is… I mean, if I got free bacon and eggs, then that’s going to be a free market every time.

I am kind of wondering though, if liberals/progressives were to counter the “they just want free stuff” angle that Republicans are always pushing with an argument that it’s really about priorities and what we spend tax money on… how much would we be able to pare down our defense spending and still be adequately “secure” (I know the wingnut answer would be WE’ZE NOT EVEN SACURRED NOW!!!11! but considering we drastically outspend everyone else, what would the “reasonable” number be)?

Reporting from red state GA this morning:

So, I decided to go peek at the people I unfollowed on Facebook. Just to see if any of them happened to have a change of heart about their current level of derp. Heh. Here’s the general gist from about 15 different Facebook accounts this morning:

Still whining about how mean and hateful things are because well, they’ve just never SEEN IT THIS BAD, SO MUCH HATE ( I cannot imagine where that comes from , can you?). Those “blacks” and their whiny protests. I don’t mind protests, as long as they’re peaceful and don’t disrupt anything.(again the ATL protests were planned outside of rush hour and no one bitching about it was detained by ANY protests. Car accidents and overturned semi trucks are another matter…same shit different day here) And the very bestest part? Half the people whining are not registered to vote(that info is publicly available online in GA). Those that are registered are planning on not voting at all or voting but leaving the Presidential choices blank. With the exception of two who are voting for Gary Johnson. A couple are just beside themselves because this is the FIRST TIME EVER they haven’t had anyone to vote for that they like (except local dipshit wingnuts).

Yeah, I’m having a hard time mustering empathy for them. They feel like they aren’t being represented by their government because they have no vote that counts. As I have said before, welcome to my world wingnuts. I haven’t had state or federal level candidates to vote for in forever with the exception of President. Boo Hoo. I know anecdote isn’t evidence, but perhaps this is a hopeful sign in a way. I guess we’ll see in November what the numbers end up being in states like GA. If my guesses are correct, we might see some very low turnout numbers on the GOP side. Especially among the young and the 30-55 age bracket.

White Nationalists at the RNC Don’t Think Trump Goes Far Enough

Outside the Republican National Convention on Monday, Gawker ran into Matthew Heimbach, a podcast host for The Daily Stormer, who is encouraging delegates to write in the late George Lincoln Rockwell, founder of the American Nazi Party, for president. Donald Trump, Heimbach said, doesn’t go far enough. “He needs to become an ethno-nationalist. He needs to understand that a people is the basis of a nation,” he said. “Specifically, white people.”

Heimbach is the chairman of the white separatist Traditionalist Worker Party, who has been described by the Southern Poverty Law Center as “the face of a new generation of white nationalists.” The party, which hopes to recruit new members in Cleveland, is currently backing Rick Tyler’s congressional bid in Tennessee’s 3rd district.

TBH, a different standard does apply. That is the world of prurient entertainment, the reality of actresses and fashion models. Ailes and the woman both might have seen it as simply quality-controlling the product.

The creepy part is that it places female journalists on the same auction block as other sex-oriented image makers.

194
Scottishdragon  Jul 18, 2016 • 1:04:52pm

Depressing, if predictable O/T development this morning:

Freddie Gray broke his own neck.

That was the scurrilous fable an anonymous Baltimore Police Department source leaked to The Washington Post two Aprils ago, shortly after Gray died of spinal chord injuries incurred while in police custody. Four prosecutions later, it appears to be the official verdict of the justice system.

On Monday, Baltimore Police Lieutenant Brian Rice became the third of six indicted officers to be acquitted of all charges related to Gray’s death. A fourth, William Porter, is currently awaiting retrial, following a hung jury decision last December, and proceedings are set to commence against the final two officers. But there is little reason to believe that the outcomes will be any different.

As has been the case throughout the proceedings, Judge Barry G. Williams, a black man whose record as a federal prosecutor includes successful convictions against abusive cops, seems to have adhered to high, if demanding, legal standards in determining Rice’s acquittal. But whatever the minutiae of the trials themselves—whatever errors the prosecution might have made, whatever the relevant statutes in play—the message being conveyed is clear: If Gray’s death was a crime, it was a crime without a perpetrator. For all intents and purposes, he might as well have killed himself.

Again…this empowers the vigilantes and revenge terror types who shoot at cops.

If the system cannot hold criminal cops accountable: other people will take it upon themselves and really bad things happen.

He was married to Gilda Radner!

I found this on Guitar World (I think) about why he did the 2012 RNC:

“I have an 11-year-old daughter and she’s going to be going to school for a long time. And it’s expensive, so I have to work. Last year I did the Republican National Convention. When they first asked me to do it, I turned it down. And they offered another really good offer, which I turned it down. They came back with one more and I said no. It wasn’t so much political but rather that I had just been away for two years and I wanted to go home. I’d just made a bunch of money so I didn’t feel the pressure. And then they came back with an insane final offer. And I thought, Well not only will this pay for several years of Josie’s school but I can hire six or seven of my friends, and give them a really good pay day too. So we went and played the Republican convention. We may not be Republicans, obviously, but it was really interesting. I got heavy flack from some people for doing it. If you remember, at that time, last August, a year ago, it wasn’t so sure. It was kinda looking like Romney was making a good run for it. So I got some heavy flack for it. But I’m a professional musician and this is what I’ve always done. I’ve been a professional musician since I was 11 years old. It’s what I do: work.”

Also see American OSS description of Nazi propaganda techniques:

His primary rules were: never allow the public to cool off; never admit a fault or wrong; never concede that there may be some good in your enemy; never leave room for alternatives; never accept blame; concentrate on one enemy at a time and blame him for everything that goes wrong; people will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it.[7]OSS description of Nazi propaganda techniques:

It is a rifle, a bullpup with the receiver behind the hand guard and trigger.
Something very much like this one:

Embedded Image

Yeah but no civilian needs a bullpup rifle. The design is meant to maximize close quarters combat effectiveness by packing a carbine length barrel in the shortest possible overall package. The design is intrinsically ass heavy, especially with a full magazine, so the weapon doesn’t balance between your hands but between your firing hand and your shoulder. All of which makes them good for urban combat and firing from within a vehicle, but utter dogshit to go hunting with.

“…Still whining about how mean and hateful things are because well, they’ve just never SEEN IT THIS BAD, SO MUCH HATE ( I cannot imagine where that comes from , can you?). A couple are just beside themselves because this is the FIRST TIME EVER they haven’t had anyone to vote for that they like (except local dipshit wingnuts).”

Ever notice these GA whiners say the same thing every time? They either don’t vote or vote for losers and expect them to make their lives better. None of them had sh*t to say when the tea partiers were showing their *sses a few years ago. Whenever a Democrat had anything negative to say about the way they behaved and the things they said, they would then scream that their 1st Amendment rights were being abridged. Some of your Facebook “friends” are like mine. They don’t vote in their best interests here in GA, they vote strictly in a tribal manner. As for their not wanting BLM members to protest, they can stick that idea where the sun doesn’t shine. All of their negative talk about BLM members is meant to accomplish one goal and one goal only—-to shut them down. Talking about racial disparity is too painful for them, and I suspect the reason that it is uncomfortable for them is because deep inside of their reptilian brains, they know all Americans are not treated the same by police officers across the nation.

But because the GOP set the rules to make sure the frontrunner won early and easily, he ended up with the commanding majority of delegates, so your gist of your post is on target.

Trump’s Twitter mentions all full of porn-bots.

Good times.

best way to advertise to convention goers.

Ok, I’m getting it now. At least these Never Trump coup plotters are not as well-armed as the ones in Turkey. I don’t think they are anyway. Maybe the Secret Service should ask Obama to send an F-16 CAP just in case.

Assume this comment is a witty remark about the chicken fight in an overcrowded chicken coup going on in Republican politics right now.

What—does he have a bank of TVs so he can monitor what everyone’s saying about him? I can guarantee that Trump is watching more convention coverage than any candidate—or any person—in the history of the world. He is the biggest whiner I’ve ever seen.

Only a few hours in and I’m burned out already. Oh—and now some asshole NY Rep, Collins, is calling Hillary a liar and a perjuror. It’s going to be a long week.

I personally think Omarosa is a great pick for Trump’s African American outreach. She’ll double his black support in key states like Pennsylvania from 0% to 0%.

Now if only we could do something about these **** polls. I want my fluffy, double-digit leads back, not these whiny BernieBros for Trump on one side and a media who’d rather blow up the world than have Hillary win the White House on the other!

The other day I was at TPM, and I glanced at their Poll Tracker on the right side of the page, and freaked right the fuck out - Trump was leading by 1.3%!!!! HOLY SHIT!!!

So I clicked on it, and looked at all the polls - Clinton by 2; Clinton by 4, Clinton by 2, Trump by 7…

Trump by 7? I looked closer.

Rasmussen.

So I clicked on the ‘Pollsters’ button, deleted Rasmussen, and recalculated. Clinton by 2. Right now, the tracker has it at Clinton by 2.6% Take our Rasmussen and it jumps to Clinton by 3.2%.

It’s not the Berniebusters. It’s Republicans who would still vote Republican right now if the party said they were going to come take the right arm of the first child of every person who votes for them. They are stuck thinking that the only way they’re going to win is if blacks are put back in their place, gays are killed, and women are returned to the kitchen.

It all comes out in the wash of aggregate poll averages. That’s more true later when sites like RCP start collecting frequent likely-voter polls.

Note: Even then it’s just a guide—RCP cooks the books through poll selection.

And if they’re the typical geography challenged Republicans, they might not realize that they’re in Cleveland.

Hey, Omarosa thinks this is Cleveland, NYC FTW!

(So…yeah, typical information challenged Republicans. BTW, is Omarosa an actual GOPer or is she just doing Trump’s bidding? Just curious. Also, read the responses to that tweet…his-terical.)

Rassmussen was always bad. Since it changed hands it’s basically pay-for-play.

I didn’t know they’d changed hands. Following them over the last decade plus, it seemed to me they started out trying to be reliable, till they’d built a reputation, but in 2008 and 2012, they spent most of the election ‘narrative setting’, with perhaps a closer approach to reality at the end.

But this?

No proof she actually employs 100k, only her say so. If she did, she’d be employing more people than Apple in the US. Or Thomson Reuters. Or any number of Fortune 500 companies.
