It is just past 8 am in Denmark, and I feel a bit alone in this room of sleeping lizards. Here’s a joke for you to start your week with:

Best wishes for a pleasant week. I am heading to Jutland where Bruce Springsteen is going to play on Wednesday, and I intend to be there with my elbows on stage.

Today on FB: white people voicing their disapproval of how and when people (blackity black black folk, BLM, etc) protest, how they protest, and how it offends them.

The short of is if you’re against #BLM in concept or in general you’re part of the fucking problem but the semantic wrangling to try and nitpick or outright reject BLM for X-Y-Z is somewhat farcical.

Ohh dear. Now my sister shared a post claiming Bernie endorsed Hillary, but not conceded and that’s key because he’s going to go to the convention and get all the delegates for the nomination and Hillary’s emails, her foundation, and he’s not a traitor….blah blah blah…I’m a raging nut job.

lol

The new BernieBuster freakout is that a DNC staffer (aka campaign staffer… SuperDelegate Fluffer) was recently murdered in a Baltimore suburb. Nobody arrested yet. This is very suspicious and of course, people need to be asking questions. And posting memes on FB.

re: #3 SoundGuy 2016

I am not surprised because although many of them won’t admit it, they’re the reason a double standard among groups of Americans exists in the first place. One doesn’t have to be a Steven Hawking to realize this. A few years ago when the Tea Partiers were showing up at different events, acting out, threatening other Americans with violence, and some of them showed up packing heat, few/none of those who are so critical of BLM at the present time had one word to say against anything any tea partier said or did no matter how shameful, ridiculous, nutso, or outrageous s/he behaved. I think the persons who disparage BLM members do so because it’s what some Americans do when members of other groups exert themselves and demand equal treatment under the law. Not wanting black persons in America to mass in large groups is an American tradition going back to the 19th Century, after the Civil War, when southern states’ lawmakers passed laws that prohibited a group of Black Americans over a certain size from congregating in public places.

Woman in the Iconic Photo from Baton Rouge Protest: “There Was No Fear in My Body”

What I’m struck by is the contrast captured in the photo: she was clearly unafraid. The white policemen, ostentatiously approaching her, were actually the ones afraid, and so is white america.

The WP has a viewer’s guide up as of 3:58 this morning. Someone is getting anxious!
One tidbit:

CELEB QUOTIENT
Don’t get your hopes up. Republicans always have a harder time recruiting Hollywood A-listers than do Democrats, and Trump is an even tougher draw than usual. The underwhelming lineup will include actor Scott Baio, Duck Dynasty’s Willie Robertson and actress Kimberlin Brown. Also on the list are actor and former underwear model Antonio Sabato Jr., and pro golfer Natalie Gulbis.

When the Tea Partiers noticed that nobody was challenging them or at least distancing themselves from the GOP message, they got even louder and more outrageous, it became an attention-seeking race to the bottom, and we are still on our way down.

re: #15 Ming5000

Gee, they don’t bring it down slow and gently.

It doesn’t work that way. The aim (so to speak) is to put the craft down on the pad at zero velocity. Slowing it down to zero while it’s still way up in the air is bad since they have limited fuel left on board and when it runs out gravity will have its wicked way with the soon-to-be-wreckage. It’s counter-intuitive but the sooner they get it on the ground the better.

I used to play the old Moon Lander game when it was still a text program written in Basic and I quickly learned the optimum tactic with limited “fuel” was a single continuous burn ending up with contact at near-zero velocity, relying on the landing legs to deal with the last little amount of energy in the touchdown.

A good many African-American Sovereign Citizens came from the ranks of the Moorish Science Temple of America, a very old group and quite possibly, the forerunner of the NOI. The MSTA entirely disavows the Sovereign Citizen Movement.

Interestingly, the NOI has - over the last few years - started cooperating quite intensively with the Church of Scientology. Talk about odd bedfellows, though I suppose a certain linkage could be made in that they’re both ostensibly UFO Religions.

So last week Newt argued for a religious test, this week he argues for criminalizing free speech.

For all their insistence about how they support the Constitution, wingnuts sure have a hard time remembering what’s in it.

Targetpractice  Jul 18, 2016 • 3:53:42am

The “militia” nutters who squatted on Bundy Ranch advocated for the downfall of the government, pointed weapons at federal officers, and two even drove into Vegas and killed a couple cops. Yet wingnuts insisted they were “patriots” with a legitimate beef against the federal government and went absolutely apeshit when Harry Reid called them terrorists, demanding an apology or even his resignation if he would not apologize.

So I find Newt’s “idea” fucking ridiculous and any who would support it hypocrites of the worst order. You cannot argue that threatening an officer is wrong except when the person doing the threatening is a fat, balding, white asshole who thinks the government is “tyrannical” for wanting him to pay taxes.

Alabama sheriff’s deputies refused service at Taco Bell by alleged anti-police cashier

To protect and not be served.

Two sheriff’s deputies were allegedly refused service at a Taco Bell in Alabama, just for being officers.

The two Lee County sheriff’s deputies were at a Taco Bell in Phenix City on Saturday when a cashier told the pair and an officer’s wife the eatery didn’t serve cops.

The officers first took it as a joke, but the tone took a serious shift after they asked the cashier if she was kidding.

“No, I’m not serving you,” the cashier allegedly responded, according to Sheriff Jay Jones, WTVM reported.

“Anti-police?” Now let’s not rush to judgement here.

I think this cashier should be commended for taking such action to ensure the continued health and well being of our police officers. Law enforcement is dangerous enough without Taco Bell “food” being added on top of all the other hazards.

This one needs much better documentation than a supposed cop’s wife’s FB. Phenix City/Columbus GA is the epicenter for shitkicking RW nastiness. They are the post town for Benning—Lt Calley still lives and prospers there. So does the judge who put a 90 yr old nun in prison for School of the Americas action. Daily News needs to show its work.

We used to play music at a very rough place, the High Country Lounge, in Flagstaff, Arizona. There were a couple of prostitutes who worked the place, you would see them coming and going with a number of Johns over the course of an evening.

At the end of the night, I was sitting at the bar waiting to get paid, one of them sidled up to me and asked if I could giver her a ride to the Taco Bell (which was three blocks away).

We then dubbed them the “Taco Belles”…

My husband is a Deputy Sheriff in Lee County, Alabama and tonight a Deputy on his shift went into Taco Bell in Phenix City, AL and was told that they don’t serve cops. A lady waiting for her food spoke up to say that she was about to ask for a refund because she didn’t want to eat somewhere with a cop.

This really disturbs me that people have started treating law enforcement professionals in this manner when these same law enforcement professionals put their lives on the line everyday to protect all people, including this woman with a very bad attitude at Taco Bell. We’re going to research this further but if this is what Taco Bell allows to happen, they have lost my business and I hope others of you will do the same.

The US is turning up the heat on Turkey - and Erdogan in particular.

Turkey could lose its membership of the Nato military alliance if it fails to uphold the principles of democracy in the wake of an attempted coup, the US has warned.

Turkey’s government has been urged to uphold “democratic rule” following its response to the attempted coup, which has alarmed both the US and the EU.

At a joint news conference with EU foreign police chief Federica Mogherini, US Secretary of State John Kerry said that America stands “squarely on the side of the elected leadership in Turkey,” but that “we urge the government of Turkey to to uphold the highest standards of respect for the nation’s democratic institutions and the rule of law”.

Whle Ms Mogherini warned that countries that allow the death penalty cannot joing the European Union, Mr Kerry added that “Nato also has a requirement with respect to democracy”.

Gülen’s extradition (or not) will make or break our “friendship”.

Just relaying what I’m getting from my friend.

I don’t have a lot of sympathy for people who use helicopter gunships to fire on civilian protesters.

The coup people committed treason against an elected government. They killed at least 200 civilians and even Erdogan’s best friend and his best friend’s 16 year old son. International politics doesn’t work that way. Our “friendship” is entirely based on Turkey’s proximity to the Middle East and Russia: We depend on them for access to the ME, and they depend on our protection from Russia. What will affect our relationship is them restricting our ability to bomb ISIS.

For the last 20 years we haven’t missed many opportunities to screw Turkey. They got some of that back when they blocked the 4th Inf Div from entering Iraq from the north. Our friendship is a little time-worn.

Looks like the EU is taking notice of what’s going on in Turkey:

Germany warned Turkey on Monday against reinstating the death penalty, as it blasted “revolting scenes of caprice and revenge” in the wake of a failed coup attempt.

In strongly worded remarks, Chancellor Angela Merkel’s spokesman Steffen Seibert told reporters that Berlin had grave questions about President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s response to the foiled military takeover.

After Erdogan said Sunday that Turkey would consider a return of capital punishment, Seibert said such a move “would mean the end of EU membership talks”.

Seibert said the EU was a “community of laws and values” with which capital punishment was not compatible.

“Germany and the EU have a clear stance: we categorically oppose the death penalty. A country with the death penalty cannot be a member of the EU,” he said.

Erdogan ain’t gonna like hearing that.

That’s a horrific disaster - a death toll about two-thirds that of the Titanic. Damn.

Worst disaster was the Sultana—1,700 to 1,800 killed when the steamship’s boilers exploded on the Mississippi. The gov’t paid per head to transport troops/former POWs north just after the Civil War, and officials accepted bribes to allow the ship to take on over 1,000 more than it was registered for. Just after the end of the war and Lincoln’s assassination, it barely registered a blip.

Of all the weird things about this year’s Trump saga, I find it kind of odd that there’s been relatively little attention given to Trump’s main occupation, i.e. his being a gambling czar—casino builder/owner. The term “real estate developer” is what is usually applied to Trump. But you would think in a normal society that someone who’d spent considerable time and achieved some fortune as a gambling organizer would be too disreputable a character to run for president, let alone win a major party nomination.

And this convention will prove it is a one man show. I have a feeling this will be a nauseating over-the-top kiss the big orange butt show all four days.

By the way, last evening MSNBC showed the special area for Trump and family. They have a low section of the arena with a special surround built to separate it from the flotsam attendees. The surround looks to be a dark brown with 5 gold stars and gold lines at the top to class it up fitting for a Trump.

By all accounts, Turkey is seriously considering the reintroduction of the death penalty - and that’s a big no-no as far as the EU is concerned; it’s expressly forbidden.

I dread to think what would go down if the US had a military coup. Yeesh.

We have been blessed by a tradition of civilian rule which George Washington maintained as a General and which has continued for 240 years. When you think how easily he could’ve made himself President for Life or even a King, but instead voluntarily relinquished power, we were very fortunate. When there is even the slightest hint of violating that tradition, like the birther colonel who refused orders until he saw Obama’s birth certificate, resulting in his court martial and imprisonment, its rapidly squelched.

GOP double standard time.

Trump can have his bio ghostwritten and the GOP voters don’t care.
Obama wrote his bio, but the GOP insists it’s ghostwritten by Alinksy.

Same with Pence and Clinton on their Gulf War votes.

Both voted the same exact way, but Trump thinks Pence should be excused (he was on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and so privy to info most everyone wasn’t) but Clinton should be held to account for her same exact position and same vote.

Leslie Stahl was incredulous at that in the exchange. Like seriously, WTF.

Sounds like capitalism to me. I guess no one else but Pence and the people I know have had a bunch of kids together at someone’s house around a pool. Lot’s of people have loads of towels that look the same, and when they get used at a party, everyone scrambles for “their” towel. She just came up with something that she can charge people for if they are willing to buy.

Ever had a party with the red drinking cups? Did you ever buy a Sharpie to write on them? Did you do it because you noticed that you were using 3 times as many cups as people there? One of the companies that sells those cups came up a little panel on the side that you could scratch your name into.

Donald Trump implied Monday morning that President Obama was insincere when he spoke about the shooting deaths of three Baton Rouge police over the weekend. “There’s something going on,” the Republican presidential nominee kept repeating on Fox & Friends. In the past, Trump has used the same phrase to imply that Obama secretly supports terror attacks. This time, The Donald suggested that the president might support cop-killing. “I listened to the president and sometimes his words are OK, but you just look at the body language—there’s something going on,” Trump said. “There’s something going on.” Steve Doocy responded, “What does that mean, ‘There’s something going on?’” Trump replied, “There’s just bad feeling. And a lot of bad feeling about him. I see it too. … We have a country that has not been like this since I can remember it.”

Donald Trump implied Monday morning that President Obama was insincere when he spoke about the shooting deaths of three Baton Rouge police over the weekend.

It is now a RW talking point that Obama incited black people to take revenge against policemen and that anyone who supports BLM is a cop-killer or at least a sympathizer. No longer possible to even argue with them about it…

I had a dinner conversation with my brother about police and was left disappointed. He says he can’t blame police being apprehensive when it comes to a black person, because of the crime. And that black on black crime is basically worse.

I asked him: Let’s say Trent (my 13 year old son, who is white) was outside playing with a toy gun. Would police show up and shoot him? He hemmed, saying “I don’t know.” I asked him again. He said no. I asked if he watched the video of Tamir Rice and he said he hadn’t. Sigh. I told him to go online and watch it. I doubt he will, because he doesn’t care.

And that’s the problem. That most white people don’t care. They’re not being killed at alarming rates, so who cares, right? Their rights aren’t refused. They’re not being profiled while shopping, or driving, or walking, or…or…etc. So who cares.

It’s very discouraging, but I wanted to share my thoughts.

It’s an even bigger problem than that. Unarmed whites, as BLM people point out, are being killed at a high rate by police. But other whites, like your brother, don’t care about them either because it doesn’t affect them personally.

Trump claims donations by others as his own. In this case, it’s donations made by his parents. That’s how he rolls. He claims all the donations of any Trump entity are his:

But none of these are his personal donations.

And none of his supporters or the GOP cares about any of this.

Never underestimate the power of BBQ.

Diverse Wichitans gather for barbecue with police

As much of the nation was reeling from yet another act of violence in Baton Rouge, La., hundreds of Wichitans came out to a barbecue at McAdams Park with Wichita police officers.

Earlier in the week, protesters had planned to march on Sunday, but after organizers met with Police Chief Gordon Ramsay for hours, according to the protesters, they agreed to break bread together instead.

What a great story.

The number of people who wanted Pokémon Go back when they were playing Pokémon on the DS is probably 1000 times greater than the number of Ingress players. A lot of what you are hearing is caused by the scale of the number of players.

McCain’s dabbling in conspiracy BS/dog whistling through the RNC with those comments. As if the President is all-knowing and precognitive to identify lone wolves before they strike.

This is the state of the GOP - completely divorced from reality, but they’re the ones who insist that everyone else is wrong.

The GOP can’t be expected to clean up its own mess since the very GOPers who might do so are reliant on the very voters who support Trump so they can’t risk losing their support or else lose the election or be primaried in favor of someone who’s even more extreme than they are. McCain’s taking this tact, by making these nonsensical claims.

Just like all those other black people who describe repeated stops by police to ‘make sure their car isn’t stolen’. Because that’s not evidence of police bias, which, as we all know, ended immediately as soon as the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964.

$250,000 to $500,000 total over 30 years by a self-professed billionaire. Not per year. And that includes foundations, personal donations, and other family members.

That works out to … about $8,300 a year up to about $16,500 a year over 30 years. Not chump change, except if you happen to be a billionaire.
