Breitbart Hack Joel Pollak Says Michelle Obama Copied… the Dreaded Alinsky!

Commies under the right wing bed
Politics • Views: 40,447

I know the previous article was titled “The 3 Most Amazing And/Or Ridiculous Republican Attempts to Deny Melania Trump’s Plagiarism,” but that was before I saw this amazingly dim-witted post at Breitbart “News” by Joel Pollak: Michelle Obama Copied Alinsky in Speech Melania Trump Plagiarized.

ALINSKY! ALINSKY! [lights hair on fire, runs around screaming]

Michelle Obama: “…the world as it should be.” In 2008, the aspiring First Lady was accused by bloggers of lifting lines for her DNC speech from Saul Alinsky. Alinsky wrote, in Rules for Radicals (emphasis added): “The standards of judgment must be rooted in the whys and wherefores of life as it is lived, the world as it is, not our wished-for fantasy of the world as it should be.” Michelle Obama said: “And Barack stood up that day, and he spoke words that have stayed with me ever since. He talked about ‘the world as it is‘ and ‘the world as it should be.’” (Perhaps Mr. Obama who left out the attribution.)

To call this “reaching” cheapens the term; this is pure propaganda for mindless idiots, like most of the drek you find at Breitbart.

Notice in the screenshot above that there are more than 8000 comments for this post; if you take a look at them (which I don’t really recommend) you’ll see some of the worst, most vile racism and hate speech anywhere on the Internet. Pollak knows, of course, that any post about Michelle Obama will incite torrents of racist comments; it’s the Breitbart business model.

And I’ll leave you with a graphic I created specially for occasions like this.

So, by that “logic”, Melanoma plagiarized a plagiarizer. Is that really the talking point the wingnuts want to sick with?

I make this prediction now, because wingnuts are creatures of habit to a fault: There will be accusations of plagiarism during the DNC. Every speech will be gone over with a fine-toothed comb and even a single sentence that’s the same as (insert famous Republican speech) will be enough to claim Democrats must apologize to Melania or be viewed as “hypocrites.”

Assuming all those liberals who are making things up are actual real life liberals (fact not in evidence). By default I always assume that any outrageous quote or story is B.S. planted by an operative—and I don’t mean just crap like that one.

Why? Because I’ve seen over and over and over again how the Islamophobia industry makes up absurd stories about Muslims e.g. MB puppy firebombs, Hamas using human shields by literally hanging little kids on fences, various terror enclaves (reminiscent of imaginary “no-go zones”), sex jihad, ridiculous reports of an Egyptian ‘necrophilia law’ that would allow husbands to have sex with their deceased wives (which someone here at LGF actually considered might possibly be true), etc.

Thanks to the nearly instant & unlimited speed with which both the truth and lies can be spread via the internet, this shit is standard operating procedure now.

I question everything that’s not from a known, reliable source.

A Cranky One  Jul 19, 2016 • 2:40:01pm

I look at the shitstorm that’s the RNC convention and wonder how anyone could think The Conald has even the most rudimentary skills required to be president.

Does he recognize the need to find and hire experts to deal with the tasks at hand? Nope. I mean, what kind of campaign manager wouldn’t be looking at fundraising and GOTV efforts long before this point? Only an incompetent one. Is there any centralized control of messaging? If there is, it certainly isn’t obvious and is amateur at best. What type of organization lets the candidate blow off major donors, especially when they don’t have funds to counter the Democratic ad campaign? The word that comes to mind is “stupid”.

Look at his fundraising emails. Even after the press pointed out that soliciting donations from foreign nationals was illegal, the Trump campaign continues to spam politicians in other countries with fund raising requests. Not fixing such a basic issue speaks volumes about Trump’s organizational/leadership skills (or complete lack thereof) and concern about getting things correct.

And rather than fix the major issues with the campaign, Trump continues down the same path while complaining about people being unfair and biased.

You know how Trump says bigly instead of big league? I think there’s another word he uses that we misunderstand.

“We gonna win whine so much you may even get tired of winning whining and you’ll say please, please Mr. president, It’s too much winning whining! We can’t take it anymore!”

OK, I’m already on record as thinking that Trump will never formally concede. Assuming we get through the inauguration without an armed uprising (or at least an easily suppressed one)…what with Grandpa Walnuts making a career out of being President-in-Exile for the last 8 years, who else thinks that the media will be trotting out Trump as Alternative President for the next 8, to issue Executive Orders on every subject from the Sunday morning podium?

Me. He’ll certainly never concede, and as long as he brings ratings the networks will be happy to present him as President without portfolio.

That would tear the country apart, you say? As long as there’s money in it the “journalists” sure as hell don’t care. Anyway, the civil war alone would be a ratings bonanza.

The rickroll does seem like sabotage.

I have to disagree; there are too many instances (see the original *eye-penetrating* Trump-Pence logo) where someone who was knowledgeable could have intervened and gotten ahead of the problem. I’m speculating, but considering that the campaign is struggling to get cash from donors and the lack of attendance at the RNC by state reps, I think it’s a ploy to get talked about for free instead of spending money for ads.

Of course, it could just be that there’s so much crap coming out of that campaign that no one can contain it all, hence the norovirus.

I suppose it might make sense in his mind.

newyorker.com

Around this time, Schwartz, who was one of the leading young magazine writers of the day, stopped by Trump’s office, in Trump Tower. Schwartz had written about Trump before. In 1985, he’d published a piece in New York called “A Different Kind of Donald Trump Story,” which portrayed him not as a brilliant mogul but as a ham-fisted thug who had unsuccessfully tried to evict rent-controlled and rent-stabilized tenants from a building that he had bought on Central Park South. Trump’s efforts—which included a plan to house homeless people in the building in order to harass the tenants—became what Schwartz described as a “fugue of failure, a farce of fumbling and bumbling.” An accompanying cover portrait depicted Trump as unshaven, unpleasant-looking, and shiny with sweat. Yet, to Schwartz’s amazement, Trump loved the article. He hung the cover on a wall of his office, and sent a fan note to Schwartz, on his gold-embossed personal stationery. “Everybody seems to have read it,” Trump enthused in the note, which Schwartz has kept.

“I was shocked,” Schwartz told me. “Trump didn’t fit any model of human being I’d ever met. He was obsessed with publicity, and he didn’t care what you wrote.” He went on, “Trump only takes two positions. Either you’re a scummy loser, liar, whatever, or you’re the greatest. I became the greatest. He wanted to be seen as a tough guy, and he loved being on the cover.”“

So yet another quote from that article:
newyorker.com

In my phone interview with Trump, he initially said of Schwartz, “Tony was very good. He was the co-author.” But he dismissed Schwartz’s account of the writing process. “He didn’t write the book,” Trump told me. “I wrote the book. I wrote the book. It was my book. And it was a No. 1 best-seller, and one of the best-selling business books of all time. Some say it was the best-selling business book ever.” (It is not.) Howard Kaminsky, the former Random House head, laughed and said, “Trump didn’t write a postcard for us!”

Can’t make this stuff up. Is it Norovirus or just Donald Trump?

NOROVIRUS SPREAD SUSPECTED AT REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION
QUARANTINES CONTAIN VOMITING, DIARRHEA IN GOP RANKS
“Explosive Diarrhea and Vomiting at the Republican National Convention” sounds more like the Fear and Loathing campaign coverage of Hunter S. Thompson, but it’s a looming issue of contagion at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, OH. At least 11 members of the California delegation’s advance team were reported Tuesday to be showing signs of norovirus infection, according to Stat.

Eerie County Health Commissioner Peter Schade told Stat that containment is key, as the virus that causes “one to three very miserable days” of violent bowel movements is “exceedingly contagious,” and may have been incubated by a large indoor water park nestled inside the hotel where much of the California delegation is staying during the convention. Should quarantines fail, it could spread to the greater population of the convention.

The California GOP has advised its 550 delegates, alternates, and guests to avoid shaking hands with others while washing them frequently, according to the L.A. Times. The Kalahari Resort, where the majority of the Golden State’s RNC participants are staying, has the nation’s largest indoor waterpark. Such an environment could be responsible for incubating the norovirus, which is transferred via the fecal-oral route.

“The world as it should be”? That’s it? It takes a mighty goddamn stupid Republican to think that phrase could be linked specifically and exclusively to Alinsky.

I’m pretty sure I’ve used the line “was accused by bloggers” a time or two. Is Pollak now now guilty of plagiarism?

The petty ignorance of these people, and their sublime confidence in their own genius, never ceases to amaze me.
A while back, on the radio show, an RWNJ caller questioned my co-host’s assertion that I was a good writer. I admit that’s not an impossibly unreasonable proposition, but the caller’s “reasoning” and evidence betrayed laughable ignorance: I had made a trivial typo on an internet post. We indeed laughed at the moron for not knowing what “writing” actually means, but he continued to revel in his supremely powerful gotcha’ moment.

Trump says he has the best people. He is incompetent.

And man, oh man, is that becoming apparent!

This was supposed to be where he shows us what a great leader he is, how wonderful his business sense and management and stagecraft are, and THIS is what we get?

Early on in the campaign, when someone asked him how he expected to build the wall, and deport 11 Million people without putting a ginormous hole in the budget, Trump answered, dripping condescension, “It’s called ‘Management’”, clearly meaning to convey that a smart businessman like him knows how to do big things well and cheaply in ways no government could POSSIBLY do.

And this is an example of that management.

Hey—you’re here. Did you see the thing I posted about the Mark Burnett film?

Here it is again:

when Mother Jones contacted Burnett’s spokeswoman, she said that Burnett was not working on the convention where Trump will be crowned. She noted that she had checked with Burnett and that he was not involved. Then this week, the New York Post, citing one source, said that Burnett had indeed been recruited by Trump for the event and that the convention would present Melania Trump as the new Jackie Kennedy.

Following the New York Post article, Burnett’s rep checked again with the mega-producer and subsequently told Mother Jones that Burnett has nothing to do with the GOP convention.

re: #259 Skip Intro

How hard would that be? Time to freshen up the lineup anyway.

Give Alex Jones O’Reilly’s spot. Sarah Palin could take over for Greta.

Hannity would be harder. I’m having trouble coming up with someone who is as complete a dumbass toady as he is. Larry Kudlow maybe?

As for the others, they’re completely interchangeable with your garden variety group of wingnuts. Fox could replace them all with minimum wage people and no one would notice.

Nah, you’d need someone who wingnuts would believe is an “independent” to take O’Reilly’s spot. I would totally take that gig, but they’d probably call me out as a liberal infiltrator (even though I’m not really “liberal”) rather quickly. I’d also want to do the show from California rather than New York.

As far as replacing Hannity, if you’re going to stay with rabid Team R fandom, the obvious answer is Hewitt.

Helping me toward my goal of having a reason to post every Hamilton song in some context.

Best music from a Broadway show since Les Mis. I could listen to it all day long.

Unfortunately, the YouTube videos never play for m.

I get the feeling these clowns watched way too many cartoons and took them all serious.

Washing your hands implies you believe in the germ theory of disease, which is way too sciencey for the science hating numbnuts that make up the modern GOP. Obviously they’re being punished by God. That’s the only thing that makes any sense.

There are so many that are simultaneously germophobes and germ theory denialists. I can’t get my head around it. To be fair, there are a lot of them on the extreme left, too.

Ah - I am frequently behind, thread-wise, and sometimes skip ahead (especially with really big threads. I just can’t keep up!)

It will be interesting - star of a high-profile movie driven off their service.

So, what are the odds of Trump or a senior apparatchik for his campaign mentioning a “final solution” to some problem between now and November?

My guess is somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2.

Since Hillary wrote about Alinsky for her senior thesis, is Pollak actually saying Melania stole from Hillary?

I love it and have listened to nothing else since April while in my car.

Try this link and see if it works (the you tubes aren’t really videos—just the music with the album cover). This site has some fun stuff.

It’s going to cost us a lot of effort and money not to find out.

If you haven’t noticed, Tweets get posted around here just about as fast as they are created. I think if you see a time stamp, you could find the same comment times in a thread and the Tweet will be there around that time.

I don’t tweet…but I have been observant!

Nope. But that’s a great site to sing along with (I like to sing) if I am not quite sure of hte words.

But I have it on my iPhone so, like you, that tends to be what’s on when I am listening to tunes.

re: #139 Nyet

Hi Nyet,
my husband’s colleague has given me a “gist” translation which is that she is basically asking him about her relatives’ well being and asking him to tell any of her relatives that he is in contact with that she was OK.

A poignant missive highlighting the ongoing struggles of displaced people to find one another in the aftermath of genocide and the subsequent political reorganization in eastern Europe after the war…

Possibly a more detailed translation tomorrow———NY time zone. :)
