Watch Live: Trump Rants Again in Cincinnati About “International Bankers”

Politics • Views: 45,073

YouTube

Yes, another deranged speech from the talking fascist yam, ranting with the “shackles off” to an audience of old, white screaming loons.

I wouldn’t do this twice in one day, but as his campaign collapses in chaos and allegations of sexual assault, he’s getting more and more unhinged, and I feel like I have to watch in case he implodes into a tiny-fingered black hole of shrieking hatred.

My sister works in a wine bar in Cincinnati, and she just texted me that she turned off the tv with the Trump speech on in the bar and some patrons started clapping.

Just a suggestion, but it might be a nice antidote to have an overnight thread after this one that features FLOTUS’s speech in NH today.

I didn’t really think it was possible, but Trump’s campaign has managed to significantly lower my opinion of Republicans (defined here as anyone who consistently votes R over D in general elections, I don’t care about peoples’ registrations).

Before all this started, I pretty much viewed Republicans as a mixture of bigots and sociopaths led by rich sociopaths, so you’d be forgiven for wondering what could be worse than that.

What’s worse than that is the substantial support given by the Republican party to a dangerous, willfully stupid and proudly bigoted maniac that should not be within the same galaxy as the White House.

The Republican party as a whole, following their Gropenfuhrer and abetted by their Spiritual Leader Rush Limbaugh, is right on the edge of approving of rape because it pisses off liberals. That’s how bad this shit show has gotten.

If the Clinton campaign masterminded the news releases this week, more power to them. That’s definitely a sign of competence. Plus the idea that Clinton knew during the second debate that this would happen is exceedingly entertaining.

Alas, it isn’t terribly realistic. Republicans have so much experience with setting media narratives that they forget that absolute partisan control of the media (as they often enjoy) is not actually a thing for non-Republicans.

Perhaps they really have reached a tipping point where their support for willful stupidity and magical thinking has caused that kind of thinking to infect GOPers that actually work on trying to win elections.

I’m fully expecting to see a certain anti-Semitic caricature (the one that is VERY present on alt-right Twitter/Facebook accounts- and no, I will not post it here because I consider it to be too vile) begin to pop up at Trump rallies. If Trump stays on the “international banker” theme for any amount of time, I expect it will happen before next week’s debate.

Press keeps making the same mistake: when Trump (and others) talk to “blacks” while addressing a supportive white audience, the message isn’t a sincere dialogue with the distant and abstract group, it’s about playing to the immediate crowd and their expectations.

Hence the total pessimism of the scene laid…and the “solutions” that ignore the actual concerns of the black community. Universal stop and frisk, for example—that’s not a pitch to African Americans, it’s candy for the audience members who think that “law and order” is synonymous with faster, more arbitrary use of police powers against deserving groups.

That all depends on how parenting is defined. If it is defined as raising kids to be civilized human beings, the Trumps have failed.

If it is defined as transmitting the familial sociopathy to the next generation, the Trumps have succeeded.

Skipping over any damaging revelations about her father, she spoke glowingly about him, saying the child care plan she took the lead in crafting is so important to him.

“One of the reasons my father is so passionate about this is because he’s an employer of thousands of women,” Ivanka said of Trump’s childcare plan to a ballroom of about 250 people in Delaware County. “So he very much understand the composition, the needs of the modern workforce.”

There is no fucking Trump childcare plan for women who work for Trump.

Not that I like the grown-up Trump kids…but I very much doubt it’s a matter of genes in such as reductive manner. Lots of room for nurture to go wrong, too. And if it were a matter of upbringing, that would actually be…sad…on some level, because parents create the lens through which a child interacts with the world. Also, at this point, they’re adults making calculated decisions on the basis of personal advantage, so they could be 100% shitty in their own right, of their own volition.

Think of the virtue in making the religious right and the Republican Party an ashen plain.

My fear is that’s not at all what’s going to happen.

The GOP might be weakened, but that will be temporary. It will reconfigure to accommodate Trumpian rhetoric while advancing more orthodox GOP positions. And if you don’t think that’s possible, just look at how often Trump fans have accommodated his flips (immigration), or failed to recognize the incoherence of Trump policy and GOP policy (protectionism versus free trade). That’s the beauty of this conspiracy spinning lunacy: it’s anti-skepticism, anti-rigor, anti-analysis, all aestheticism and sentiment. As long as you can hit the tone right—which is about mastering the medium, not about content—you can pull people in.

The Religious Right is basically *ahead* of Trump in gaming the episteme of its followers. Scripture is close to meaningless already, having been run through Burroughs’s cut-up procedure to generate any convenient meaning. Morality is similarly cut-up, though the fattest shares of forgiveness seem to always fall to the people at the top (and their appetites for borrowed funds and vulnerable young people). Donald Trump hasn’t yet figured out how to co-opt sanctity to cover his groping: his god-pimp game is weak.

Mike Pence asked to respond to an 11-year-old girl concerned about her self image in intvw w/ @ScottLight10TV tonight:

Pence has no panache. Trump would have asked her for a date to his 2nd Inaugural Ball.

Donald Trump is not right, as he has suggested on the campaign trail and repeated in Sunday’s debate, that the chief culprits are Muslim terrorists, inner-city gangs and Latino “criminal illegal aliens” who comprise the “murderers” causing “drug problems” and “crime like you’ve never seen.” If he needs someone to blame, he should look instead to the demographic group most likely to support him: older whites.

….Violent crime, which includes murder, rape, robbery and assault, rose 4% among older whites but decreased by 2% among those under age 30….Over the last 25 years — even with falling crime and recent reforms that reduced California’s prison population — older whites are the only group that has shown increased levels of imprisonment, while rates for young people of color have plummeted.

Trump’s supporters are terrified of the “crime wave” that they have created.

Thinking about this unfolding horror movie, it struck me how far we’ve all been dragged down into the GOP’s cesspit when we can say, in all seriousness, that ONE of Trump’s numerous categories of abusive and criminal behavior is assaulting women. Think about it: that’s only ONE of the many items on his rap sheet. Not that long ago, it would have been completely disqualifying in itself. Now, it’s just another item for Conway and Bannon to laugh off amid the howl of the shitstorm.

I think Trump was suggesting that, if Hillary collapsed in Tian’anmen, the Chinese would just ignore her, walk around her or something. Only a delusional idiot would suggest that, because
(a) her Secret Service detail would help her
(b) the Chinese security detail would help them help her,
(c) on the off chance she were alone, she’s an older lady, and a foreigner, so Chinese people would spring to her aid, because they do that.
(d) besides all that, Tian’anmen Square and the palace grounds are crawling with police, army and other security people, who would help her
(e) an older foreign lady collapsing on the Square and ignored by everyone is really bad for the tourism business, so someone would take care of it.
(f) Hillary is not a frail elderly lady, so she probably wouldn’t collapse in the first place. Trump on the other hand would probably melt in the Beijing summer sun within 30 minutes.

No, they were mostly old folks (and this was close to 25 years ago) who looked on him as George Washington. The youth certainly didn’t care.

The cult of Mao was virtually extinguished 20-25 years ago. Students in China learn about the Great Leader in school, including all the tall tales about him (equivalents to Washington and the cherry tree, and the coin across the Potomac), and as they get older are required to learn about Maoism. But the veneration is gone. My students find Maoism classes achingly boring. While they admire Mao for creating the PRC, they also recognize he was far from perfect (though the details of those imperfections are studiously avoided in classroom discussions).

Even so, there are still long lines at the mausoleum in Tian’anmen Square, with Chinese of all ages waiting patiently to see the waxy corpse (or a simulation) of Mao under glass. I’ve never had the slightest urge to join them.

re: #266 Romantic Heretic

“Jesus. ‘Conservatives’ simply will not engage in anything resembling self-examination.”

There’s a reason they will never do this, and as a Christian of over 50 years, I think it’s because Christianity isn’t their top priority. Their top priority is using Christianity to push their authoritarian agenda. I see this is their worship of the very rich and their uncaring attitude toward the poor and the less fortunate, including kids, and their championing of violence, hate, bigotry, Islamophobia, homophobia, etc.. It sickens me when they use religion to excuse the bad behavior of GOPers. This, more than anything, informs me that Christianity is a tool for them and is not something that influences the way they live and treat others.
