re: #6 Backwoods_Sleuth
Real concerns.
Congress has the power to lay tariffs and are silent while Trump engages in his trade war.
That silence is assent. Their refusal to act beyond tweets and a few sternly worded statements is complicity.
Trump’s trade wars are filled with losers - no winners.
But Trump now seems to get that the costs to farmers would be huge and needs to get them ignoring the losses - and nothing beats losing than cooking the books to make it look like they’re coming out even or ahead, when he’s just taken tax revenues to cover the losses for a single segment of the economy.
Everyone’s getting screwed by this, except the Russians (the only ones who he hasn’t targeted with a trade war).

I think it’s just that Trump has only offered farmers the money, hence those are the people who should get money. If he expands it, then that too will be a good thing. If he changes his mind and says farmers are evil and the money should go to hot dog stand owners, the Freepers will find a reason why that is true.

Looks like a small earthquake swarm off the Oregon Coast:
Eleven earthquakes ranging from 2.8 to 5.6 magnitudes were reported off Oregon’s southern coast Tuesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quakes, on average, were clustered about 126 miles west of Crescent City, California. No tsunami warnings were announced.
Don Blakeman, a geophysicist at the National Earthquake Information Center, said the magnitudes haven’t yet been serious, adding that quakes of this caliber occur fairly often off the coast.
Though the 5.6, which happened at 7:44 a.m., qualifies as a moderate earthquake, the impacts would be more significant if it had occurred on land rather than 10 kilometers under the sea, Blakeman said.

Seeing that explanation got me to thinking about the media and how they probably were played by the Russians.
We all know the media these days are worried about hits and views and numbers. And to get those they go after the big popular stories that seem to get the buzz. They build their coverage on what everyone is talking about and run with it.
Was that ‘buzz’ they were seeing all during 2016 the fake Russian created buzz? Did they see all those bots tweeting and all those Facebook ads that got all those fake accounts pushing the Trump good Hillary bad story and pumping it up as real people?
I think they were faked out like everyone that fell for the Russian creations were. They aren’t as thorough in actual fact digging for their reporting, they tend to let the ‘net do that too.
The election may have been a victim of a media that was a victim of their own practices and they didn’t know it. That is how bad they have gotten as far as actual journalism.

Don’t worry. Freepers are behind giving money to farmers because they really work for a living. No word yet on why they don’t think people in fishing and manufacturing actually work.

Also not being pointed out that a lot of that money will go to agribusinesses.
The GOP really is the Opposite Party. Say one thing and do the exact opposite.

We’ve seen this movie before, re: Boy Scouts in WV.
Trumpster encourages crappy and uncivil behavior, organization later issues message saying they didn’t approve of said behavior, etc.
Some president we have here.
One difference in this one though is the VFW seems to have made their statement right after the event.
If I remember right, the Boy Scouts took some time to realize they had a problem and then made a statement in response. It may have even taken a day or so.
VFW took action. Boy Scouts were putting out a fire.

True.
But so many VFW members were of a time when Russia was a huge enemy. Last week may have made some in the VFW realize Trump is dangerous. They also know he isn’t doing shit for them with all his false promises.
I guess it is just a feeling that the VFW people that organized that event were not pleased and are being honest about it.

That some members of Congress are farmers is hardly new. Many of the Founding Fathers worked the land. But as the industrial age transformed America’s agrarian society and technology made it possible for fewer farmers to grow more crops on more land, the number of lawmakers actively engaged in agriculture dropped sharply.
We don’t have a firm count of how many farmers are serving in the current Congress, but we do know, based on a recent analysis of the Environmental Working Group’s Farm Subsidy Database, that 23 of them, or their family members, signed up for taxpayer-funded farm subsidy payments between 1995 and 2009.
This would be a good place to point out that just five crops — corn, cotton, rice wheat and soybeans — account for 90 percent of all farm subsidies. Sixty-two percent of American farmers do not receive any direct payments from the federal farm subsidy system, and that group includes most livestock producers and fruit and vegetable growers.
Among the members of the 112th Congress who collect payments from USDA are six Democrats and 17 Republicans. The disparity between the parties is even greater in terms of dollar amounts: $489,856 went to Democrats, but more than 10 times as much, $5,334,565, to Republicans.

Every sign is pointing to a Democratic wave in November
(CNN)The 2018 election is in 105 days. And the playing field continues to tilt toward Democrats.
On Tuesday, Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball at the University of Virginia moved 17(!) House seats in Democrats’ favor — eight of which went from a “leans Republican” rating to a “toss-up.” That means that of the 36 races rated as “toss-ups” by the Center of Politics, 34 are held by Republicans. Remember that Democrats only need a 23-seat pickup to regain the majority they lost in 2010.
I’m hopeful but I’ll believe it when I see it. Predictions like this make it easier for the Russo-publicans to move the goalposts, that is, they will claim total failure if the Democrats do not in fact get a majority. In the meantime, everybody MUST vote, get out the vote, do whatever you can to help your candidates. Everything is stake.
