Me: “Because I’m not Jewish, it is not my place to tell Jews whether or not they should find Ilhan Omar’s “Benjamins” tweet offensive. I know that many did, and thus Omar’s apology for causing offense while not backing off her point about AIPAC was the right thing to do.”

That white you are seeing may be Teflon tape or some kind of pipe compound. It is applied to help seal the threads of the connection and prevent seepage. Pipe compound gets old and dry and might need some extra work to get the connection loose.
Or, it is crusty salts that sometimes build up on a connection and gets hard and makes the connection more or less glued with dried salt.
Do you have access to some WD-40? If you do, spray just a tiny amount at the top of the hose connection and let it work it’s way into the threads. Spray and let it work awhile, even overnight. Then try to break the connection free.

*shudder*
Pearson can be a damn mess at times. Whenever I go home to Canada, I take a domestic flight to Buffalo or Detroit and drive from there.
And yet… from here in western NY, it’s pretty much the only useful option for international flights. It’s either a puddle jumper from Rochester to JFK or DTW and then waiting hours for a flight to Europe, or a shorter drive to YYZ and then straight on to the international flight.
I am exhausted. This has been a very long two weeks at work.
I have been broken. No more joint care with midwife patients. Alabama now has lay midwives coming out the woodwork.
These people and their patients are the ob version of flat earthers. You can’t even say they are the ob version of anti-vaxxers since they are all anti-vaxxers anyway.
I can’t handle arguing about basic accepted medical practice anymore. We are talking about Rhogam for Rh negative patients when we know the father is Rh positive. Rh sensitization used to kill many babies.
We are talking about a lay midwife recommending putting a piece of the placenta in the cheek after delivery if the woman starts bleeding instead of pitocin. This has absolutely no scientific basis.
This week I had to deal with patient who had to be induced because she was sick (as in so sick she would have died before modern obstetrics) refuse pitocin. She then did not understand why she had still not had the baby after 2 days. Finally, she just got so tired she agreed to the the pitocin and we had the baby in less than 4 hours.
Pitocin is just a brand name of the hormone oxytocin which causes the uterus to contact. It is like saying Kleenex instead of facial tissues.
Also, one of my patients had a stillborn. No obvious cause.
Also, try explaining to evangelicals that there is really no such thing as a third trimester abortion. We call it a delivery after inducing for medical indications. That was several times last week.
How many people truly think we would kill a baby after it is born? If a baby has a lethal abnormality, you make the baby as comfortable as possible and let the parents hold it. You then try and give them any support you can.
I can’t take this much longer. I have been broken.
Sorry about rambling. I am just so tired.

After my 9th (yes I have 9!) was born I told them to leave in the pitocin drip. They said “your baby is already born, you don’t need it any more!” I said “My uterus is flabby and if you remove the pitocin drip now I WILL HEMORRHAGE.”
They removed it and yes I did hemorrhage. I pushed the panic button and the nurses came running and I’m like I TOLD YOU just before I passed out.
When I came to the IV drip was back in place.

Women who have many children are at high risk for postpartum hemorrhage. That is why having 7 or more children is considered a risk factor for us.
For people like you we normally plan on continuing pitocin and usually give extra medication like misoprostol just in case. This also applies to large babies, twins and women with a history of postpartum hemorrhage. This is planned for in advance and I discuss it in the office during the pregnancy.
I just don’t understand. One out of four women used to die from complications of pregnancy before modern obstetrics.
Just some side nerd info - this is what used to keep the sex ratio even years ago since males have always died off faster than women.

One more ob nerd fact. Stirrups were originally stirrups (yes the horse kind). One the French kings wanted to see a baby being born so the contraption they rigged up used horse stirrups.
Next time you are at the ob/gyn office, take the foot covers of the stirrups and just look at them.

That’s exactly what I look for in a physician. I know a lot already, but I certainly don’t know it all and I want my doctors to explain things to me. It’s why I’ve always been the designated family member for physicians to talk to when family members have been hospitalized.
It’s tough dealing with willful ignorance and caring more about the people than they seem to care about themselves.
as i argued pretty recently, the electoral college actually encourages the parties to ignore most rural voters! no use for a republican to appeal to the larger rural population of, say, California
— b-boy bouiebaisse (@jbouie) March 18, 2019
It’s like…even in California, you still had more Republican votes than the entire electorates of several states combined. The only way that kind of assertion would ever be valid is if the states were treated like monoliths. Which, with all irony, the EC system essentially does.

My knowledge of him is not an endorsement, but he is a successful entertainment entrepreneur and brand-as-person. He’s got this “deep and authentic if you have little life experience” thing that sells well, and I suspect his consumption audience is a lot of kids.

Well, it’s Donald Trump, so WTF knows what sparks through that addled mush he uses for a brain, but in normal political terms it’s probably a matter of name recognition. The “coal industry” is pretty much faceless, hundreds of mines in several states, run by scores of operator, none of which are household names.
GM, though is easily one of the most familiar corporate “brands” in America, and closing the Lordstown plant is a far simpler issue people can grasp. And, also, like everything to do with The Orange Anus, it’s probably a personal affront: didn’t he make a point of touting Lordstown during the campaign?
I’ve written about the US intelligence community’s duty to warn Khashoggi—if they had advanced knowledge of the threat to him.
